23.01.2022 We are faced with increasing restrictions on the way we move, avoiding ridesharing and public transport. Encouraging a switch to cycling increases population health whilst effectively maintaining social distancing. https://www.theguardian.com//why-not-encourage-cycling-dur
21.01.2022 This is great news - The Adelaide Hills Council has identified an extension of the Amy Gillett Bikeway as a Priority Project to kickstart recovery in a communit...y still reeling from the Cuddlee Creek bushfires and now facing the devastating impact on tourism of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council will be seeking a total of $9 million from Government for 3 components of the extension: Balhannah to Hahndorf, Mount Torrens to Birdwood, Birdwood to Mount Pleasant. These new sections of the rail trail are expected to form part of the proposed Wine Capital Cycle Trail spanning 250 kilometres and four world renowned South Australian wine regions" Hills Voice 9/4/20 Photo Credit: Barry Woodman
21.01.2022 To our awesome Fat Tyre Community Well, its certainly crazy times so you wont be surprised to hear, we have made the tough decision to postpone the Fat Tyre ...Festival until 2021! Cycling and the Festival means so much to the community, its a big part of our year and it brings wonderful people together to play, laugh and celebrate cycling. Right now though, stopping virus transmission is the worlds priority and therefore ours too. This is bigger than us and we all have a part to play. But in the meantime please keep yourself in peak physical and mental condition and get out into nature and move your bodies while you can! On a positive note and something to look forward to.... Were pretty excited to announce more funding for the region which will expand the trail network into the Mt Remarkable National Park - keep following the progress on our socials! Keeping hope and having fun amidst all this is a priority too so we sincerely hope youll join us in 2021! Stay well out there people. 21.01.2022 BISA has brought to the attention of the State Government bicycle projects that can assist during the current emergency, as well as economic recovery over three... timeframes: Immediate term (0-4 months): cycling as an alternative to public transport; cycling for physical and mental health; reducing traffic-related hospital admissions Short term (2-6 months): economic stimulus to support existing industries; positioning for longer-term economic recovery Medium term (> 6 months): longer-term economic recovery and tourism-focused growth. http://www.bicycleinstitutesa.com//202003-coronavirus-resp.
21.01.2022 Cities in Europe are reallocating space for walking, cycling and queuing. Meanwhile, in Adelaide, schools back. While we are lucky to be in this position, our streets will probably never be as peaceful again.
20.01.2022 Wisdom of the trail 6 There can be no growth without personal discomfort. Or more simply, "no pain, no gain."... For me this applies to everything you, we or communities want to improve. Trail advocacy, planning and construction are great examples. Improving fitness or bike skills too. To build the strength and determination to ride up a massive hill will require suffering. For me, I like that suffering and as soon as Ive conquered 1 hill, Ill go find a bigger 1 or try to change up a gear or 2. To get better at "sending it" to clear the gap, mistakes can be costly to bike and body. But the reward of clearing the gap, is exhilarating! There is simply no way to get better without stepping outside your comfort zone. Words, plans, thoughts are cheap. There must be sweat investment to make any idea work. Ideas are nothing if you cant follow through with the personal physical investment. Or the "self" sacrifice. For every trail I have ever been involved in theres been personal sacrifice. Be it lost time with family or loved ones, busted fingers or a really sore back. The committee meetings are sometimes the most painful part! I dont want sympathy. I just want people to understand that for every trail you are enjoying, someone has gone beyond their pay grade, or sacrificed some personal fun or simply volunteered their precious time to make this world a better place. As is the case for most things humans enjoy. If you want something better for yourself or your planet, this is true too. You cannot change anything by simply talking about it. There must be action and discipline to make any idea work. I once read a line "Those that seek discipline are freed from desire. Those that seek freedom become captive of their desire".... hmmm, yes? And the Buddhist teaching that "Pain is an illusion" has been one of my mantras.... ask my kids. Tough love is as important as empathy and support. Not sure if this post will help anyone, but one thing is true. Nothing worth doing is easy....

20.01.2022 Additional Closures in Cuddlee Ck Forestry Reserve (Fox Creek) and Montecute CP. This covers the Mawson Trail, sections of the Heysen Trail and Mount Misery. Fr...om Forestry SA: "In addition to timber harvesting operations in the Cudlee Creek Forest Reserve, from 1-5 June there will be contractors on site conducting post-fire pest animal control work. This will result in a large number of vehicles and heavy traffic throughout the Cudlee Creek Forest Reserve and adjoining public land, both on and off vehicle tracks. In the interests of public and contractor safety we ask that people respect the site closure during this time; please note Montacute Conservation Park will also be closed during this period."

11.01.2022 We thought wed take a look at old versus new with these photos of South Australia Police in 1905 VS 2020. The bicycle on the right is a Bullock push bike, wh...ich was originally manufactured in Adelaide. The bike is an original 1905 Police Bike as used by SAPOL, and it even has the old government brand on it. The dapper uniform is period correct and was loaned to us from the Police Historical Society for these photos. Even the location is period correct as these photos were taken at the old mounted police barracks behind the state library on North Terrace. And on the left is our current police uniform for bicycle patrols, complete with an E-bike were trialling for three months.

08.01.2022 Hey all. Environmental & Trail Services will be giving Anstey Hill Recreation Park trails some love over the next few weeks. Works commence today (7th May). Mos...t trails will remain open for the duration but temporary closures may be in place while machinery is operating. Keep left, slow down, say HI and enjoy. Update. There will be modifications made to the upper section of Grand Canyon to improve flow and install features to better cater for "intermediate" riders who are looking to progress to black trails. 05.01.2022 If you would like to get fit and meet new people, check out our Cycle Salisbury Social Rides program which is up and running again from Saturday 13 June. With 9...3km of trail there is a lot to explore and the Bicycle SA volunteer ride leaders would love to show you all the wonderful places you can ride locally. As there are rides from 5km up to 40km of varying difficulty, please take care when choosing a suitable ride and be sure to check the details (including the ride code which includes average speed and difficulty of the ride). If in doubt be conservative, or alternatively ring the particular ride leader to discuss. It is a requirement that we continue to abide by the 1.5m social distancing requirements and have no more than 20 persons in a group. It is also required that you text or phone the ride leader if you are intending to attend by 5pm the day before the ride. Your text will be acknowledged by the ride leader, securing your place in the group. Arriving unannounced on the day risks not being able to join the group. #cyclesalisbury
