25.01.2022 Ding Ding. Time to get out and save the Malop street Green Spine! If you want a liveable, rideable, beautiful city come along and send a big fat message to decision makers about future Geelong!

21.01.2022 Meanwhile in Geelong... The new council budget: one new shared path in ocean grove for next financial yr (no bike infra for other 40 suburbs), but can find $11 million for new roads and millions for road maintenance and subsidising car parking in central Geelong. #greenwashing #notsustainable #noclimateemergency #bau

20.01.2022 VIC: Geelong council gained $8 million in state funding to put in a bike lane, then voted to spend $2 million ripping parts of it out again. They want to "get ...traffic moving again", and add more car parking, which would surely slow it down (stroadify?). Listening to the councillors speak, it seems that some local shop owners complained about a bike lane (again?)? We don't know Geelong at all, but could it be the bike lane is not to blame - that the Westfields is taking customers away? Motorists don't seem concerned about congestion as they circle the car parks in shopping centres up here. Among all the restaurants, hairdressers etc on the strip, we're struggling to see any place that sells items requiring a car to carry it, with the exception of Motors on Malop. If you really want to attract people, being a "shining example of how traditional retail streets can become inviting public spaces during the day and at night" must help. In the attached article, the picture shows only one car. Dear Mayor - rip up the car lanes instead!

19.01.2022 Great post! Geelong Council's continuing to subsidise private transport and car ownership. lucky other cities are not making the same mistake

19.01.2022 Mayor Asher says 'focus on sustainable transport' after voting to add car parking, turning lanes at the expense of a bike lane! Tip for the Mayor: prioritising vehicles that burns finite fossil fuels = not sustainable

18.01.2022 Good work Linda!

16.01.2022 Tell the Bikespot about you worst spots...

14.01.2022 Helen from Cycling Geelong will be out on the Green Spine tomorrow (Thursday, 19th March) from 11am to 1pm taking photos and talking to pedestrians, riders and traders. If you're out on the bike, ride through and say hello. https://cyclinggeelong.com.au///green-spine-action-update/

13.01.2022 Hi Does anyone have any advice as to costs and best options for purchase and installation of electric bicycle kit. It seems durability and quality of battery is one big issue, along with how well they fit to the bike and affect its comfort and performance. TIA

13.01.2022 Riding is back on the Green Spine! Thanks Helen for your great work!

09.01.2022 Great news today! The bike path pictured will now be a permanent fixture on Malop street thanks to the state gov taking over the project and quashing Council plans to introduce more vehicles to this strip! Thanks Christine Couzens MP Lisa Neville MP. Pic: A few riders on the Green spine yesterday with the 'Save our Green Spine' tees on... Great snap Helen Lyth

07.01.2022 Entertaining read about the politics in Geelong until this bit... "This decision will cost at least a couple of million dollars and it is based on a hunch. There is no business case to support the destruction.... No plans. No civic consultation. No report from the CEO. No expert opinion." https://t.co/Eryseo8dBa?amp=1

07.01.2022 Thanks to all those people who came last night to the meet up. Thankyou to the people who took the time to speak. Great to meet and hear from so many people passionate about saving the Green Spine!

04.01.2022 Hi all. It's with regret that we cancel the Green Spine protest ride scheduled for friday... Read the update

02.01.2022 Your Name No. Street Suburb, VIC, Post Code Today’s Date... Minister for Water Minister for Police and Emergency Services The Honourable Ms Lisa Neville Level 17, 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne, VIC 3002 Dear Ms Neville, I’m writing to you too strongly to voice my utter dismay and disappointment with the decision by the Geelong City Council to Pass a Notice of Motion on Tuesday 25 Feb 2020 to commence works to change the award winning green spine in Malop Street Geelong. I would also urge you to continue to pressure the Council to reverse this decision and I appreciate your already strong support for the ratepaying community of Geelong. The decision to alter the works already completed has been taken without proper community consultation and goes against advice that the works will not save more that a second or two for the traffic that we don’t really want in this part of the city. I look forward to your response and assistance with bring this undemocratic and bordering on grossley incompetent Council into line with public expectations. Yours Sincerely Signature Your Name
