25.01.2022 "Customer service is the act of taking care of the customer's needs by providing and delivering professional, helpful, high quality service and assistance before, during, and after the customer's requirements are met." Paul Mckinney. The key words for us here are : "before, during and after". Big Picture recently opened a new account with Century Couriers. Today we received a 30 second phone call from a very polite sales representative to welcome us on board and to let us k...now that should our allocated rep not be available, then we could call the sales department at any time and there would be someone to assist us with our query. And that was it. Not only did we feel confident that we had chosen the right courier service, we also used the best form of marketing available, word of mouth. Or in this instance a social media shout out. Don't forget, in this digital landscape it can work the other way too with bad customer service plastered all over people's feeds.

25.01.2022 SEO is about to get a little more challenging. Google is currently quietly testing a new local search algorithm dubbed Pigeon. This means Google will reduce the geographical search radius and only display the top three listings on their map instead of the top seven that we have been used to seeing (pictured). It’s going to turn into an SEO battle for a spot in the top three.... Our advice is to make sure that you have good SEO and that your website is frequently updated with relevant information to stay on top of Google’s game.

25.01.2022 #happybirthdayPittwater! Pittwater was set up on May 1, 1992 by the Pittwater Community, for the community. It is the only council in NSW to have done this within 100 years. A true democracy! We are proud to live and work in this amazing place. Let's keep Pittwater independent!! Make sure to have your say by 5 June, complete the online survey http://app.keysurvey.com/votingmodule/s180/f/859892/56e2 or hunt down a paper copy - we have plenty here at Big Picture.

25.01.2022 Northern (Beaches) Exposure! Margaret's piece in Peninsula Living about handing over the marketing side of your business to the professionals, sitting comfortably above the ad we created for Pittwater Business Limited

24.01.2022 Clear company message - TICK Impact and standout - TICK Giveaways and samples - TICK Comfortable and inviting - TICK... Here's the stand we recently designed for our client Knauf Insulation for their booth at DesignBUILD - all boxes ticked!

21.01.2022 A great example of when the lowest paid worker on the job can have so much influence on the end result. This weekend's letter-box drop saw the Woolworths brochure tucked inside their rival's Coles catalogue. At the conclusion of an expensive door-drop campaign, is this really the best outcome for the brand or is targeted digital the way to go?

21.01.2022 Love it or hate it, there's been no escape from it recently. Yep, that's right, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Regardless of whether or not you agree with it, there's no running away from the fact that not only has it generated huge public awareness around ALS or Motor Neurone Disease, it's also raised significant funds for the ALS Association. That's a good thing, right? ... It's viral success can be attributed to the fact that it's a) funny, b) there's a (public) 24hr time limit attached to completing the challenge and c) that celebrities happily drench themselves just like the rest of us. Watch out for copy-cat campaigns of a similar, but undoubtedly less potent, nature. And yes, haters are gonna hate. In the meantime, having placed our own donation to ALSA, we nominate Peter FIsher. In the meantime, we nominate

21.01.2022 If it's rude in real life it's just rude anywhere. Imagine walking out of a dentist's appointment and some random stranger walks up to you, uninvited and starts telling (read 'selling') you all about their latest high tech tooth brushing system. It just doesn't happen, right?... Recently we were reading through the eNewsletter of a high profile media and advertising publication and clicked on a link in one of the articles. Shortly afterwards we received a phone call and personalised 'follow-up' email, not from the sender of the newsletter but from the company the article referred to, trying to sell us their system. Now, while eNewsletters are useful in letting you know what topics your clients are interested in, along with works and what doesn't, this kind of cyber-stalking is intrusive and creepy. A lesson in how not to use your data and a big nope from us. We requested immediate removal from their list.

18.01.2022 Today we celebrate the creation of the 400th job number for one of our clients! These jobs have ranged in size and complexity from the graphics on a postpaid envelope to a full blown 30 second TV commercial. Today we celebrate the importance of a strong, healthy and honest relationship where we view ourselves as an extension of their marketing department. Bring on the next 400!

17.01.2022 Who would have thought that a union of social media and the latest technology, could lead to a citizen science experiment that benefits our natural environment and provides valuable data to monitor how the landscape is changing. #morganfireo02 #NSWRFS Check out the results here http://nerdsfornature.org/monitor-change/diablo.html

16.01.2022 A big shout out to NSW small businesses and to our client Hank's who is celebrating 21 years in business. Check out this letter to Hank's from the PM!

16.01.2022 Nostalgic recollections of the heady days of Sydney 2000 were sparked recently, as we once again heard mention of Stadium Australia. It triggered fond memories of when I project managed the design of the logo and branding for the key sporting arena of the Olympic Games together with the design and production of the Gold and Platinum Prospectuses. How appropriate that our national team should win the Asian Cup at such a prestigious venue. Congratulations all you Socceroos!

14.01.2022 The 2016 Bloomberg Global Tech Issue is out - reporting on how all the big questions are being tackled from points all over the globe and packaged up in a wacky interface. Covering off solutions to pressing issues such as the 11 Italian engineers solving the problem of how to make espresso coffee in space. Meanwhile back on earth - if plants have an infinite loop of producing energy via photosynthesis then why can't humans harness that model? And my favourite - it turns out t...hat expensive re-designs of disused power stations (ahem White Bay) is NOT the path to innovation. It's garages, that's what we need - lots of them. That's where all the midnight oil is burnt and the big ideas are incubated. Worth a read. Although I'd turn the sound down - the experience is a lot like being on 'hold' without the super-insulting "Thank you for calling, your call is important blah, blah..". Enjoy! http://www.bloomberg.com/featu/2016-global-tech-inventors/ See more

13.01.2022 How will you connect with your customers? The rush of EOFY is over and here at Big Picture we're in strategising mode, mapping out how we're going to move forward with keeping in touch with our client base. We're kicking off by planning our communication strategy using a simple spreadsheet to schedule what we want to say, where and when we're going to say it. Content > platform > timing... Have you got a strategy for communicating your key marketing messages during this financial year?

10.01.2022 Currently on a TV screen near you. Our latest TV commercial is a first for Knauf's Earthwool DIY home insulation! A truly collaborative job on an international scale, this ad was directed and shot by us here in Sydney with post production and visual effects by Thread in England. Time difference? What time difference?

09.01.2022 Beware of a nasty, clever and very authentic looking malware email currently doing the rounds. It may come disguised as an infringement notice, a notification from Australia Post, or an account update from Paypal or ebay. Please do not open the email or click on any links within it. We have known about cases where businesses have been held to ransom because all their files have been hijacked.... Always back-up to an external drive and never open an email you're unsure about. If you think the email might be genuine go to the actual website but do not click on any links. The State Debt Recovery has a notice on its website warning against such emails: http://www.sdro.nsw.gov.au/ Stay safe!

04.01.2022 The power of pantone and iconic images!

02.01.2022 Facebook always likes to ask 'what have you been up to?' in the status update space.... and one of the reasons we've been so quiet recently is because we've been busy designing, building and developing the new website for Hank's, which was launched yesterday. Our client is totally thrilled with their new e-Commerce, fully responsive site (i.e. it works and displays perfectly on any device) check it out here :

01.01.2022 The results are in! We welcome the strong support the people of Pittwater have voiced towards retaining their council. The Pittwater Council community survey shows an overwhelming number of residents are against council amalgamation. From our perspective, we were thrilled that of the respondents who received the door drop, a staggering 79% of people had read the information pack designed by, produced and distributed through Big Picture.... The full community survey report can be read here: http://www.pittwater.nsw.gov.au//Report_CATI_-_Pittwater_C

01.01.2022 Oh Canada! February celebrates the anniversary of the design of the Canadian flag by George Stanley, who is credited for the concept of the red-white-red stripes with a central maple leaf. While the distinctive flag exemplifies pure mid-century modern design - simple and symmetrical, bright and bold, it is still very contemporary and works on so many levels.
