24.01.2022 Around Mudgee, NSW The first European settlers arrived in Mudgee in 1821, finding good grazing lands on the banks of the Cudgegong River. The name Mudgee is der...ived from the Wiradjuri term Moothi meaning "Nest in the Hills" or "mou-gee" meaning "contented". The village of Mudgee was gazetted in 1838 and within a couple of years, the village had 36 slab dwellings, three hotels, a post office, Anglican church, police lock-up and a couple of stores. There was a gold rush in the district from the 1850s and while no gold was found in Mudgee itself, Mudgee was a centre for the local goldfields, and the town prospered and grew rapidly as a result. Reflecting the importance and prosperity of the town, the Municipality of Mudgee and the surrounding rural Municipality of Cudgegong were both proclaimed in 1860. Many fine buildings were erected, remodelled and enlarged, seemingly with a case of one upmanship between opposing businesses! When the gold rush finished, agriculture became the main industry for the district and these days, that includes a booming wine industry with vineyards lining the hills in the surrounding areas. Mudgee has a rich heritage of well-preserved buildings, in a variety of architectural styles, lining the streets of the town. It is not the sort of town you can just pass through without missing out on so much. I stayed the weekend with my wife, which meant I was able to get up early to take my photos, (mostly) avoiding cars and people in my shots! Then, of course, theres also the winery tours to fit in the schedule :) See more

While there have been a large number of posts on social media community based... pages, these have all been false and based on rumours, with residents told to instead look for information on trusted media sources, such as 2MG, TV or newspaper pages, or Western NSW Local Health District who provide updates if cases are detected in the Central West. 03.01.2022 BREAKING - Flavours of Mudgee Postponed. After careful consideration and consultation with its key stakeholders, Council has made the decision to cancel Flavour...s of Mudgee on Saturday 26 September due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is working towards hosting the event later in the year. A tentative new date has been set for Flavours of Mudgee 2020 on Saturday 21 November. This date is subject to State and Federal Government health orders and permissible crowd numbers for major events. General Manager Brad Cam said whilst it is disappointing to cancel the September date, Council remains hopeful of proceeding with its flagship event later this year. Flavours of Mudgee is traditionally held on the last weekend of September, however given the current restrictions in place it was an impossibility to deliver our flagship event in September. Weve made this decision as early as possible in consideration of those travelling to Mudgee for the event, as well as our stallholders, suppliers and our community. Although weve made the decision to reschedule, the November date remains tentative and were in the hands of the State and Federal Governments as to what will be permitted for major events. The restrictions in place will determine whether the event can proceed. The health and safety of our community is our priority and will shape any decisions we make in relation to the event. Councils Events Team continues to monitor directions from State and Federal Governments and is working closely with key stakeholders on the November date. (Pic-flavoursofmudgee.com.au)
