25.01.2022 Here in Australia's South West corner is the remnant rainforest of a bygone era. The Warren National Park is located in the heart of Karri Country and is a beau...tiful example of the Southern Forests and rivers. Travelling through the forests on his adventures, tour guide Graeme Dearle offers a small intimate experience of what he missed the most during the period of lockdown. The 'Beach & Forest Eco Adventure' is a 4 hour adventure through the forests, landlocked Yeagarup Dunes to the mouth of the Warren River where it meets the Southern Ocean.

17.01.2022 Early in the season, but looks like its going to be a good one.
17.01.2022 THE CASCADES, Gloucester National Park Pemberton WA It was so worth the effort to head out early and catch the mist rising from the Cascades in Gloucester NP, ...near Pemberton WA The countryside around Pemberton is absolutely stunning. The towering karri trees with tall slender trucks rise over 50m above the forest floor. On cooler mornings it is common to wake to the sun casting golden rays through the thick mist that rises from the river. Bird life is prolific in the forest and in spring the wildflowers are amazing. There is a short 1.2 km walk, the Lefroy Brook Loop Walk, that follows the river upstream from the Cascades and I will post more information about it soon. The Beedelup Falls are in full flow and you can check them out from the viewing platform or... from the suspension bridge below the falls. Just 20km from Pemberton, Beedelup Falls also has picnic tables, so don't forget your lunch, and a 4.5km loop walk trail through the cool, misty understorey of the karri forest to the Walk Through Tree. 12.01.2022 The number of new cases in Western Australia continues to be very encouraging, and shows that the measures we have taken so far are starting to have a positive ...impact. But we cannot afford to take our foot off the pedal. The health pandemic is here in Western Australia, and unfortunately it wont be leaving any time soon. But if we follow the advice, abide by the new rules and practice good social distancing, we can take a different direction to the rest of the country and the rest of the world. Western Australia is in a unique position - our isolation is now our best defence. And now, we must use it to our advantage. Thats why we have taken the unprecedented steps of introducing regional boundaries and brought in tough measures to restrict movement and social interaction. But as the situation continues to evolve around the world and across Australia, we need to take further steps to protect our State. We currently have restrictions in place for people coming into WA, and requiring 14 days of self-isolation - and those restrictions are working. But it makes sense that we go further now, and close Western Australia's border. Based on the medical advice, we will move to introduce a hard border closure effective from midnight, or 11.59pm, on Sunday night. I want the message to be absolutely clear to any Western Australian over east who is thinking of coming back to WA. If you need to get home to WA come home immediately. If you are an eastern-stater, and thinking about visiting WA forget about it. While we are this State of Emergency, we need you to stay where you are. The quicker we can get through this, the sooner we can get back to normal. In effect, this decision will be turning Western Australia into its own island - our own country. These are drastic steps, but also sensible and workable - and they will give us the best chance of combating the virus and minimising the spread throughout our community. A number of specific exemptions will be implemented to ensure our State can continue to operate and function. The exemptions are currently being finalised, but they will include people who perform work functions including: - Health services - Emergency service workers - Transport, freight and logistics - Specialists skills, not available in WA, - National or State security and governance, and - Courts and judicial services; There will also be exemptions for FIFO workers and their families, however strict 14-day self-isolation measures will need to be followed, when they first enter the State. Further exemptions will also apply on specific compassionate grounds. We are living in extraordinary times. It is like something we have all never experienced before. But I am just so proud of the WA response. The wider WA community have responded to this with true Western Australian spirit. Everyone knows that we are in this together and for that, I know, we will get through this. If you had asked me a couple months ago that we would be closing the WA border, I would have laughed. But, unfortunately, this is no laughing matter. This is serious. We are serious.

10.01.2022 BIG BROOK DAM WALK, Pemberton WA This trail goes right around the edge of Big Brook Dam, meaning you have views over the water at all times! It's 4.3 kms long, ...almost completely flat and sealed all the way, so it is wheel chair and pram friendly! There is a little sandy beach area and a number of seats and shelters at intervals along the trail. The nearly 100 year old regrowth karri forest provides a stunning back drop and the wildflowers are amazing in the spring time. On the southern side of the dam the trail aligns with the Bibbulmun Track, so you will be able to say you have walked a very small part of the 1000 km long trail! At the western end, instead of heading north around the lake, you can continue to follow the Bibbulmun Track, to an old Arboretum where there are stands of trees from around the world, including the giant North American Sequoia. Its an additional 2 km there and back or you can complete the hike around the dam and drive down the road to the arboretum if you prefer. Pemberton is about 3.5hrs south of Perth, WA via sealed roads and Big Brook Dam is 5km north of Pemberton. There are lots of amazing hiking and drive trails nearby. 10.01.2022 The restrictions we have had to put in place during this crisis have been significant and disruptive, and the limitations on seeing family and friends have been... particularly difficult for many. But the overwhelming majority of Western Australians have done the right thing, and it has paid off so far. Our State has seen remarkable results in the fight against COVID-19 - and while that fight will continue for some time yet, those results mean we can now cautiously adjust some of the most extreme of those restrictions. As of tomorrow, 27 April, based on expert health advice, the two person limit on non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings will be adjusted, with the limit rising to 10 people. Additionally, the list of acceptable activities to do away from home has been expanded slightly. Everyone should continue to practise appropriate social distancing and stay home except for: Shopping for what you need, such as food or other necessary supplies Medical or health care needs, including compassionate requirements Exercise, including outdoor personal training without shared equipment Training or University study, where remote learning is unavailable Childcare or school Work Non-contact recreational activities such as private picnics in the park, fishing, boating, hiking and camping all in compliance with travel restrictions and the new 10-person rule Home opens and display village openings, with appropriate record keeping and hygiene practices in place, and in compliance with the 10-person rule A maximum of 10 people will be allowed at weddings (an increase from the five person limit), funerals, outdoor personal training (no shared equipment), home opens and display village inspections as part of these changes. The new 10-person rule aligns Western Australia with South Australia. The two-person rule was adopted in WA going further than what was recommended at the time in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. All other restrictions will remain in place for now, and all public playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment to remain closed. These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country and as outlined by National Cabinet restrictions could be in place for six months, but subject to regular review. Thank you again for doing such a great job so far. Although these changes are small, I hope they will help many Western Australians get through this difficult period.

08.01.2022 Virtual Hike .... The walk from Pemberton to Northcliffe is well known for pleasant walking through the karri forest. As its only a three day, two night walk ...between towns it is the perfect section for a quick getaway. Shortly after leaving the town the Track passes directly under the Gloucester Tree, in Gloucester National Park. In the past, foresters maintained a regular fire lookout from a platform sitting fifty-eight meters high in the crown of the tree. The Gloucester Tree lookout was built in 1947, and construction coincided with a visit by the then Governor General of Australia, the Duke of Gloucester. He and his entourage picnicked while they watched forester Jack Reynolds at work, cutting away branches to clear a space for the platform. The lookout, and subsequently the whole national park, was named after the Duke. The tree is no longer used as a fire lookout but is a huge tourist attraction. At 72 metres in height, the Gloucester Tree is the worlds tallest fire-lookout tree. https://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au//track-sectio/pemberton/ See more

03.01.2022 #Newintown The Pannell family is one of the most iconic in Australian wine, having not once but twice pioneered the vigneron model in Western Australia. After b...eing one of the first wine producers in the now legendary Margaret River region with Moss Wood, they had a complete shift east to the still somewhat unexplored Pemberton region, where they established Picardy. Here they focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and they invited their son Dan to be an important part of the future. With such an incredible pedigree and a passion for Burgundy, it’s easy to understand why Dan is regarded as one of the most incredible and honest winemakers in the state. 01.01.2022 ~ Wow... One whole year! ~ I'm sitting at home, charged with the task of making a Facebook post, because Source Kitchen has been open a full year - Wow! I feel ...like the luckiest man alive. The short version is simply Thank You - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! And we're going to give you a cupcake to celebrate One FREE with every order However, for those who might be interested, let me tell you a little story about three unlikely restauranteurs, of good fortune, bad timing, incredible support and a big fat spoonful of luck! June 2019 - Pippa, Jamie and I had just heard that Pemberton's pizza place had closed and we were discussing what restaurants were left for evening meals. "Maybe we could make pizza?"... The first seed was planted. September 7th 2019 - It was the day we unlocked the door at 17 Brockman Street for the first time. "Lets take a look at what's happening with this old, closed down cafe". It was the first time we had seen what was to become Source Kitchen. And we made the decision there and then - "Let's do it... and be open before school holidays!" So with an ever growing list of tasks to tackle, and a timeline that sensible people would call impossible, we jumped in - at the deep end. September 21st 2019 - Just 2 short weeks later we served our first patrons. It was one of the most amazing moments of my life and an evening we will remember forever. We created a simple menu of locally 'Sourced' food from the most ethically and sustainably managed suppliers we could find! The idea had become reality - and the customers loved it! The first day was a success. We had opened on time and now offered travelers another dinner option for the school holidays. That's also when we realized that this little restaurant could get bigger and busier than we'd first anticipated. So our team would need to grow. The support and encouragement we received from the local community was nothing short of amazing and the feedback from our customers has left us grinning with pride for the last 366 days. (I've lost count of how many people have said "This is the best burger I've ever eaten ) But I can honestly say that the best part of all, is walking through the doors and greeting our team of happy, friendly and absolutely wonderful staff. They have been the real reason all of this has happened so successfully. Thanks again guys, you rock! Because then in March of this year.... The world changed. The reason we opened this restaurant was so Pemberton could have another place to go for dinner. Somewhere travelers could experience our regions abundance and locals could proudly recommend. Its the same reason we had to do whatever we could to stay open during the Covid19 lockdown. To keep our people employed. To keep selling our local suppliers products. And to be the place the local community could get a good feed. But it got very quiet. Easter didn't happen. Our town was empty. However, we did managed to stay open every night, offering a meal, sometimes a free meal, to those few who needed it. Our community supported us throughout it all and our business was lucky enough to survive, when others unfortunately haven't. Which brings us back around full circle. As the regional boarders re-opened, West Aussie's return to explore the beauty and abundance of the fabulous South West and we've found ourselves busier than ever! So here we are again, preparing for another September school holidays. Please let me now say it again - Thank you! Through all of this, the highs and lows, Pippa, Jamie and I have been so incredibly grateful for all of this. Thanks to each and every person who has blessed us with your visit to Source Kitchen. It means so much Here's to the next 365 days Cheers Aaron P.s.
