25.01.2022 Quick reminder - if you wish to join the Facebook group, please remember it is a closed group for Little Brothers and their families. The joining questions help us understand how you relate to the other people in the group, and you need to answer them to be able to join.

25.01.2022 Little Brother John Rust sent in some great photos of lads on board the Strathmore in '63. He's sort of sure on some of the names - perhaps you can see yourself? Among those pictured (in this photo) are: Kenneth Singleton (centre top) / Roy Stirling (middle left) / David Phelps (middle centre) / Jerome Miller? (btm left) / John Hilton (btm centre) / Bernard Barber (btm right).

25.01.2022 Shared by Alexander Mellis (front centre in the photo) in our Facebook group: "Great adventure. Best ten pounds I ever spent. Can you imagine seventeen year olds today dressing like what we used to do with coat and tie. After twelve months in the Riverina and the red dust storms all my white shirts turned pink. We used to wear ties to go to the pictures in Deniliquin, no much wonder the locals used to think us a bit odd. Most emotional time was when I felt the ship nudge out from the pier and all the streamer starting to break. Waltzing Matilda was being played over the P.A. system and then the churn of the ships propellor. Heavy fog with fog horns going off everywhere, quite eerie..."

25.01.2022 Here's another great story/read. From Alexander (Sandy) Mellis (Fairstar '60): Tarland to the Land Down Under.

24.01.2022 I hope this finds you well in these unprecendented times. As we all do our best to protect ourselves and our families from the spread of COVID-19, BBM has also taken some steps to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, Little Brothers and the wider community. In line with the expert advice for social distancing, we have closed the BBM office to the public, but you can still contact us by email, phone or social media, and we look forward to keep chatting ...as usual. The upcoming Sydney Reunion will unfortunately be postponed until later in the year when it is safe to travel and get together with all of you. We so look forward to seeing you all in person! In this extraordinary situation all of us at BBM wish you well. Stay safe and stay in touch!

23.01.2022 What a treat!!! Our partner and horticulture sponsor Mayfield is celebrating the easing of travel restrictions by offering access to its full private estate for the price of a standard garden ticket. Can't wait to see the autumn colours!

20.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 the planned Sydney Little Brother Reunion had to be postponed until later in the year. We havent set a date just yet -- but as its National Volunteer Week I thought it would be a great opportunity to recognise the role that volunteers play in the organisation and staging of these reunions. BBM would like to recognise Stuart Gearey, (SS Orontes 57) in particular, for his work and support in not only the organisation and running of reunions but the extra efforts he took to reach out to Little Brothers and keep the Big Brother Movement fire alive in the local media and community leading up to the event. Thank you Stuart https://www.bbm.asn.au/littlebrothers/stuart-gearey/

20.01.2022 Ken Martin, Himalaya'54. Our thoughts are with his family. https://www.huntervalleynews.net.au//kens-dying-wish-to-/

19.01.2022 I wonder how many Little Brothers have their names on The Welcome Wall at The Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour. Is your name recorded there? You can search on their website: https://www.sea.museum/discover/welcome-wall

19.01.2022 During the school holidays I visited The Farm with my grandson Louie. I took a few photos to share... I hope some of it is still recognisable for you Little Brothers. Of course, the size of the farm is much diminished, surrounded as it is by housing estates - but it continues as a working farm with sheep and cows etc - as well as other 'exotics' to entertain the tractor loads of kids: camels, alpacas - even a fox! At the other side of the farm buildings there are kangaroos, wallabies and emus running 'free' in the remaining bushland. I hope you enjoy these images and that they evoke some happy (or not...) industrious memories...

15.01.2022 Little Brothers 1961...

15.01.2022 Life in the time of COVID-19 has changed many things for most of us. Life is quieter. Perhaps more reflective. Or more frustrating - especially if youre used to having a diary full of social engagements, volunteering - or other activities outside the home. As elders in the community, Little Brothers may feel isolated due to age and/or other concerns.... Im curious to know how the Little Brother Community is faring. Id love to hear your stories perhaps youve started a new project that you could share or just let us know your wisdom and/or coping mechanisms honed over a lifetime. (Maybe this is the time to write your bio to add to our website: https://www.bbm.asn.au/big-brother-movement/ What are your hopes for when we do return to the post virus world? If you prefer you can email me direct at [email protected]

14.01.2022 Happy Valentine's Day! From Dick Steell (Fairsea '63) who absconded from the movement to chase after a ship romance to David Bonnett (Ranchi '51 below at his wedding) who found true love in country NSW - the time as Little Brothers was a time of romance for many. Did the Big Brother Movement bring a sweetheart into your life? We'd love to hear!

09.01.2022 Talk about three degrees of separation! With this Highly Commended talent, the BBM story comes full circle: Teddy found out about the scholarships from his Granddad, Little Brother Steve Noble, who came out to Australia with BBM in 1955. By pure coincidence, Steve Noble came to Australia on the same ship that same year and also with BBM as the Alan Wilkins, the father of BBM's current Chairman, Stephen Wilkinson. Strathnaver '55. https://www.bbm.asn.au/teddy-burgess/

09.01.2022 Happy 80th birthday, Ken Johnstone! Few Little Brothers have kept as close a bond with the Big Brother Movement as Ken Johnston, Orontes '57. Migrating from Scotland, Ken never quite left the movement, becoming first its Accountant and later Chairman of the Board. Please celebrate with us decades of achievements of a tireless volunteer who loves numbers almost as much as he loves Jazz... Read Ken's story in this excerpt from Alan Gills' book "Likely Lads and Lasses" https://www.bbm.asn.au/littlebrothers/ken-johnstone/

08.01.2022 The NSW 2020 Reunion is in the making. We need your ideas!

08.01.2022 If you're like me you've been putting off certain projects for a 'rainy day'. But now we're all in isolation it's the perfect time to get 'stuck in' and finish them...

07.01.2022 Young farmers taking the lead to face the future challenges of Australia. In their industry and on the Board of BBM.

06.01.2022 John Taylor (Orion '61) sent in these great photos for us all to enjoy. Thanks John - we LOVE these!

06.01.2022 Love this great photo of lads setting off - Canberra '65. Perhaps you can spot yourself or someone else...

05.01.2022 Know a young Australian who's itching to see the world in 2021? A young talent in trades, agriculture or performing arts? Share thisd opportunity with them and see them follow in your footsteps.

04.01.2022 The world around is rapidly changing indeed, but BBM continues to create those life-changing opportunities for young people that follow in the footsteps of our Little Brothers. To ensure we continue to create a better future for Australia meeting the future challenges and opportunities, the BBM Board of Directors has revised our vision and purpose. Hear from our CEO about how your legacy lives on in our future programs.

03.01.2022 Tim Eyes, BBM Board Director and young farming champion is out there fighting the fires. With a broken arm. Thank you Tim and Hannah for all you do for your community today and the future of young farmers in this country.

03.01.2022 Thanks to Richard Mellish who came into the BBM office with some fantastic new photos for our records... including with Paul Riel, Richard Bamford and Terry Barnes.

01.01.2022 It is with sadness that we note the passing of Brian Roger Bywater (Otranto56). Brian was seventeen when he undertook the journey to come to Australia with the Big Brother Movement. He settled in Gilgandra and, with his wife Ann, raised seven children. Known locally as Mr Coo-ee - Brian received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to community history, as co-organiser of the Kookaburra March and the Coo-ee March re-enactments in Gilgandra. ... https://www.abc.net.au//2015-cooee-march-reenactme/6893012 A private funeral service for Brian will be held and condolences for Brians family can be left at: https://www.facebook.com/Gilgandra-Funerals-Monuments-236798066467545/
