We will guide you through the whole process from your creative ideas to finished Intaglio prints you can frame. You will learn how to use our etching press and create your own etched metal printing plates which we will then print up. 24.01.2022 LOCAL ARTIST PROFILE: Ronnie Grammatica Faces of the Hastings by Ronnie Grammatica These images are a selection from Faces of the Hastings. This was the first public art exhibition Ronnie Grammatica did in the area. Installed in February 2018, with the second series installed in May 2019, the project included a series of large black and white posters that launched the Bicentenary 2018-2021 event in Port Macquarie.... There are faces that we pass every day in the street, often unnoticed. Ronnie wanted to capture some of these faces and put them back on the street, in the form of large unmissable posters. The aim was to prompt passers by to stop and reflect, to look beyond the facade. Who is this person? What is their story? Who are we as a community? Ronnie believes that art is a powerful tool that can help us to understand, question, and make sense of the world around us. He values art galleries as places for cultural growth, discovery, debate, integration and social inclusion. We will have the talented Nadine Rahman playing her soulful live music, as we listen we will sketch and design and then turn these drawings into prints. So it’s an intimate live gig a drawing session and a printmaking class all rolled into one! This is a very limited numbers workshop and it will follow the NSW COVI...D guidelines. The class is fully guided and all art materials are supplied with constantly changing themes and visual still life set ups. 13.01.2022 DEAD FLOWERS SOCIETY. This dynamic drawing class has been running for 5 years and we are very happy to be back after the necessary break enforced on us! Due to the current health practices the class has been altered to best provide a safe and creatively satisfying experience. The new format will run in on-going blocks of 5 weeks. The weekly class is 1.5 hours in duration. All materials are provided. Classes are limited to 9 places only.... The class will have a focused and instructed element followed by a free draw session. This will provide a balance between learning and applying skills and exploring playful expression. Any skill level is welcome as we aim to increase your current ability and individual creative interests. A wide variety of materials and subject matter will be covered. You are welcome to bring your own too! The class has usually been very social and exploration based, fun and free flowing. We will be holding this new series of classes at the Stables in Bellingen (behind the ambulance). The cost is $100 for the 5 weeks course. We will refund at $20 per remaining class in the event of any required shut down due to COVID. There are no refunds for missing class or changing plans however. Class is 6-7:30pm. Thursday’s. 12.01.2022 Big Fig Arts are pleased to present this unique printmaking experience. This the first of a series of outdoor creative workshops. Combining the practice of Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing and traditional printmaking, come and share a day with us in nature making and exploring. We will set up a ‘bush’ printmaking studio base and artspace for making. We will have our etching press, a full set of materials, tools, inks and papers for you to explore and learn with. We will cover ...several printmaking techniques; metal plate etching, linocut, and monoprint as well as drawing and journal work. The intention of this workshop is to slow down, be in a quiet natural setting, to connect with ourselves. To use all our senses to gather and absorb what we experience, to then create through the tactile art making process of print. To make your indelible mark, your authentic response. Using elements of the practice of forest bathing we will gather ideas, insight, inspiration and objects to bring back to the bush studio. We will then work with you on how to best express these through printmaking and journal work. The aim is to create a suite of prints using different techniques and materials based on your interaction and experiences. We hope to inspire new and different ways of art making and ways of ‘seeing’ for your art practice. Big Fig Arts will supply all the necessary materials and tools and your very own Acoustic art kit, a journal with drawing materials to keep, so all you need to do is come along. We will create a safe, comfortable outside studio space to work and gather together. The space is naturally shady and river swimming is possible. 04.01.2022 ATELIER- Artist Studio. BERNADETTE DIVOLA. Today we highlight the work space of Bellingen creative @queenbernie @the_enthusiastic_storyteller. She is a very prolific and talented artist who’s creative output is diverse and multifaceted. From illustration and book publishing to sewing and movie making! We adore her work and her style. DESCRIBE YOUR CREATIVE WORKING SPACE FOR US. ... I’m not sure if I can claim a studio. My space is at the back of my house. My partner Troy made me a desk out of an old door and some wooden boxes for shelves. This area often spills out to a veranda overlooking my garden. At the moment I’m sharing this space with my partner who is working from home. To be honest I treat my whole house as a studio. I’m a dedicated maker and most surfaces boast a project or two. I might have some watercolour on the go on the coffee table, some paper crafts on the bench and an embroidery hanging over a chair. I’m often found drawing on the lounge or stitching in my favourite chair. My partner and I are always working on making our house more beautiful by our handiwork. I guess what I’m saying is that my house is my studio and it reflects who I am. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT PROJECT? I am currently adding sketches to my ‘Iso wall’, hand stitching a hexagon quilt, making articulated paper puppets and animating them in stop motion as well as writing and illustrating stories for my Instagram @The_Enthusiastic_Storyteller.
