01.01.2022 #Fish with care | Top tips for #fishing in national parks this #Summer #Queensland’s national parks are home to some of the richest and most diverse fishing are...as in Australia including a wide variety of beaches, rivers and lakes. Whether you’re an experienced angler, or will be casting your line for the first time this Summer, it’s important to stay safe, be gentle on the environment and minimise impacts on our wildlife. It’s important never to feed wildlife or attract them by having fish or bait where they can get it. Check your baitdon’t use imported, raw prawns from the supermarket as bait. They may carry diseases which can get into our waterways and harm our prawn populations. Store bait and fish in shoulder bags or vehicles, not in beach buckets. Clean fish away from campsitescleaning fish in camp sites is prohibited. Keep berley and fish remains in sealed containersnot hung on tents or bull bars. Dispose of fish remains and fish traps in the correct bin or bury and cover them in a hole, at least 50 cm deep from the top of the hole, just below the high tide mark. Obey the rules: Know your fishing responsibilities and Queensland's fishing rulesincluding bag and size limits, restricted species and seasonal closures. If you’re fishing in a marine park, check the zoning before you gofish only where permitted. Care for our wildlife: Help protect our parks by ensuring you don’t carry plant seeds, soil or pests in footwear, clothing, boats, vehicles and gear. Stay away from nesting seabirds. If disturbed, adult birds can abandon their nests, leaving eggs and chicks vulnerable to heat, cold and predation. Before your visit, always check if there’s any park alerts or closures before you go (http://ow.ly/h3aJ50CiaVk) Find out more about how to fish with care at http://ow.ly/TsrR50CiaVj #qldenvironment | #fishwithcare
