25.01.2022 The State Government has announced $1 million to undertake environmental studies and engineering designs for marine facilities for Bunbury, in what is a major advancement in the project. 17.01.2022 The iconic Punchbowl Caravan site in Bunbury is one step closer to being developed! The City of Bunbury supported a change to the planning scheme at Tuesday night's Council meeting to expand what the site can be used for to make it more attractive to potential buyers. Council wants to attract developers to the potential for a mix of housing accommodation opportunities with the on-going option of a short or long term (permanent) basis, similar to the approach recently adopted... for the Back Beach Tourism Precinct. In order for this to occur, an amendment that introduces S.U.7 Mixed Use-Tourism under the City of Bunbury Town Planning Scheme No. 7, is necessary. City of Bunbury, Mayor Gary Brennan said this was a positive step forward in stimulating investment interest in the future development of the area. We have had this site on the market for a number of years and under the current zoning developers cannot realise the full potential of the land, Mr Brennan said. Council hopes that with what the amendment offers, it will make it an attractive purchase. The change will be referred to the WA Planning Commission for approval. See more

17.01.2022 Please show your support for the marine facilities initiative by coming along to the Casuarina Harbour feedback session tomorrow (Saturday 21st Feb) at 1pm at the Sanctuary Golf Resort. It's important to get as many people as possible along to show support in this crucial planning stage. Showing support for different ideas and options is vital to shaping how we want this area to look and sends a strong message to Government that the community supports this development! RSVP to the South West Development Commission on 9792 2000 or [email protected].

16.01.2022 Come along this Saturday and give your feedback on marine facilities development in Bunbury! People are being called on to help shape the city’s waterfront by sharing their ideas for transforming Casuarina Harbour. At a community workshop taking place at 1pm this Saturday February 21 at the Sanctuary Golf Resort, people can provide input into the creation of a master plan for the area.... The land up for discussion is listed as Area 7 on the concept plan developed by the Bunbury Marine Facilities Steering Committee and put out for public comment last year. South West Development Commission chief executive officer Don Punch encouraged people to put their thoughts forward about how the potential marine and tourism hub could be used in the future. "As we progress planning for Bunbury’s marine facilities, there will be opportunities for public comment and this is the next phase where we would like people to have a say in how they envision the area being used into the future," he said. Though the outer harbour will continue to be a working port, there is room for a range of possible uses and we would like to hear your ideas. Come along to the community workshop this Saturday and let us know what you would like to see there and what you don’t want to see there. All feedback received will be used by consultants to prepare a proposal for public comment. This will be followed by more detailed planning and development of a master plan. The community consultation is being undertaken on behalf of the Bunbury Marine Facilities Steering Committee. People planning on attending the community workshop are asked to RSVP to SWDC on 9792 2000 or [email protected] . 08.01.2022 What a great day at Newmont Boddington Gold Mine! Big Fish Media & Events coordinated the Vital Behaviours Family Day last weekend - 550 families of employees visited the mine and plant, taking part in 4.5 hour tours with buses leaving every 20 minutes from the Boddington Rodeo Grounds. Kids had their faces painted by Bunbury facepainter Nissa James, had fun on the bouncy castle, chatted to Bobo the Clown, got into hand painting and craft and enjoyed a hamburger and sausage sizzle cooked by the Boddington Soccer Club. Another successful day!

05.01.2022 Congratulations to South West MLC Colin Holt who was today appointed Minister for Housing and Racing and Gaming. Colin is a great supporter and friend of Bunbury's and in particular, has been instrumental behind the scenes getting the State Government to support our push for marine facilities which are now on track. Colin is also Leader of the National Party in the Upper House, and was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Regional Development (Terry Redman) prior to becoming a Minister. This has been taken over by Moore MLA Shane Love in Premier Colin Barnett's Cabinet reshuffle. Colin's appointment will give Bunbury and the South West a key voice in Cabinet. Well done Colin and we look forward to working with you!

05.01.2022 Key messages from Prime Minister Tony Abbott's address to the National Press Club today: In 2007, Australia had a strong and sustainable budget with a $20 billion surplus and $50 billion in the bank. After six years of Labor, the deficit had blown out to $50 billion and gross debt was skyrocketing towards $667 billion. Under Labor, government was spending too much; borrowing too much; and paying out too much dead money in interest alone....Continue reading
