18.01.2022 Exploring the Big Scrub you will find many delights including native bush foods like Acronychia oblongifolia, commonly known as White Aspen. White aspen is a small-to-medium rainforest tree with striking, bright-white edible fruits that taste comparable to citrus. These little delights are enjoyed by many native birds including the iconic wompoo fruit dove. Sights, sounds and tastes - the sensory overload of the rainforest

16.01.2022 A rainforest pioneer, Brown Kurrajong (Commersonia bartramia). Pioneers are the plants that are the first to establish a rainforest. They are fast growing and are able to quickly create shade and canopy cover. Pioneers kickstart rainforest regeneration by attracting seed distributing birds and other animals. They represent the first stage of rainforest development and assist in providing conditions for later stage plant species to establish. 02.01.2022 The survival of our plants and forests depend on pollination and the busy and diligent work of many insects, bees, birds and even bats. Most of the Big Scrub flora is pollinated by insects, and insects play critical roles in nutrient cycling and pest control. They are a major source of food for birds, reptiles and mammals. Although not easily spotted our pollinators play a vital role in our ecosystems. Bees would surely be attracted to this Red Lilly Pilly, captured by photographer Iain Stych. Let’s celebrate together, raising awareness of the importance of pollinators and supporting their needs for Pollinator Week 8 - 15th November. #pollinatorweek2020
