The Tweed River gently flows through the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia and is the northern most coastal catchment in New South Wales. From its origins on the volcanic slopes of Wollumbin the Tweed River flows north-east to the ocean. It rises on the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range; with its watershed bordered by the McPherson, Burringbar, Condong and Tweed ranges and contains a large catchment area of 1,055 km2. The river flows generally north east, joined by eight tributaries including the Oxley and Rous rivers before reaching its mouth, the South Pacific Ocean. The river descends approximately 173 metres over its 78-kilometre course.
