14.01.2022 "Experts estimate that the additional congestion costs generated by school trips in cars is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. So what can we do to get more kids walking or riding a bike to school? Good pedestrian infrastructure, pleasant walking and cycling environments and safe crossings are critical, of course."... https://www.abc.net.au//walk-to-school-children-t/12660300

11.01.2022 As covid-19 infection rates have risen in New York, and the city braces for winter, it can be hard to see a reason for optimism. For his latest New Yorker cover, R. Kikuo Johnson finds one: the welcome surge of cycling across the boroughs. https://www.newyorker.com//cover-st/cover-story-2020-10-26

11.01.2022 Due to popular demand The Big Bike Film Night have added an additional screening in Sydney for Fri 13 Nov! Don't miss out! "We're continuing our mission sharing the best cycling short films from around the world with you. Showcasing our 2020 collection (our 6th 'vintage') with everything a cycling-centric audience could want- action, drama, humour, and plenty of inspiration; the evening is unashamedly and utterly designed and devised for the two wheel devotee!... This year’s treasure chest of films includes a story that reminds you of the importance of finding your ‘why’, and that with a bike you can find a worthy adventure in your own backyard; a movie that shows inspiration can come in all shapes and sizes sometimes that shape and size is a seven-year-old girl who likes to ride BMX; an audacious mountain climbing challenge; a tale of trees, traps and trails, two friends on an environmental mission; a beautiful story about the power of two wheels and a community built through bicycling; and a part documentary/ part fantasy with mountain bike illustrations that will have you looking for your rig and heading down the trail in search of the same kind of magic; ALL in the mix!! These short films are a great reminder of why we love to ride our bike; with stories that captivate us, stories that make us think, and most importantly of all- stories that inspire us to get out and ride. Run time: 2 hours including a good old fashioned wee Interval."

08.01.2022 Thank you Councillor Jess Miller for your ongoing support of safe and easy cycling in Sydney!

07.01.2022 Please sign and share this important petition which has been started by concerned parents. Today I met with school parents, and the Principal and President of t...he Rainbow St Public P&C to see what council can do to make it safe for kids to walk and ride to school. My motion to the September council meeting called for funds to be brought forward so a much needed crossing on Sturt St can be built before the start of the 2021 school year. Other crossings on Rainbow, Sturt, Paton and Botany Sts are needed and I'll be working to see how these can be funded in 2021. The safety of local students must be taken seriously, we can't afford any more delays.

04.01.2022 One for the Bayside Council area! Thank you to everyone who submitted support during the consultation back in 2018 - the one way circuit of Wolli Creek is approaching completion and now includes some prominent on-road bicycle markings. Although works are not yet finished, and some minor adjustments to signage, ramps and road markings still need to be made, it’s great to see cars slowing down and paying attention to the new lane widths, more pedestrians and bikes on the road.... If you use the area and like what has been put in place, a bit of feedback to the folks at Bayside Council would be great. The project team would love to hear your thoughts on the how this bike infrastructure makes a difference to how you ride through the area. Cheers and happy riding everyone.

04.01.2022 Spring St, Bondi Junction cycleway coming along nicely!

03.01.2022 We've been following up the neglected pruning around the Randwick Light Rail shared path alongside Centennial Parklands. Randwick City Council have advised there are several landowners in this area, including Randwick City Council, RMS, Transdev and Centennial Park and will follow up on our behalf. It seems that following the construction of the Light Rail there may have been changes to maintenance agreements or access in the area.

03.01.2022 Creating a cycling area around Scone and making it one of the cycling capitals of NSW was an idea pushed heavily by Mrs (Lucy) Turnbull. "I think the Scone bypass creates a real opportunity for the Upper Hunter region to be able to build cycleways and cycle lanes and those cycle lanes could also be built on a lot of the back roads that lead into Scone," Mrs Turnbull said. "Many of which have varying steepness and gradients which is perfect for cyclists from five-years-old to ...elite, Lycra wearing cyclists. "I think the idea of building a cycling mecca, starting at Scone and obviously going to Muswellbrook when the bypass is finished there, would be a great tourist magnet because there are very few places in Sydney which you could call cycling magnets. "It's not only the natural topography; it's also the natural historic progression from horses. It's also part of a decarbonising message."

02.01.2022 "The question we should be asking is, what is the quality of life we want in our cities?"

02.01.2022 Great work We Ride Australia and thank you Dave Sharma MP.

01.01.2022 Following many years of BIKEast and the local community advocating for safer cycling improvements here, City of Sydney have finally released plans for safety improvements for the intersection of Lang Rd and Driver Ave. For those of us who cross here as part of our daily commute, we have no doubt seen and heard of many terrible incidents at this intersection due to the existing poor design, lack of visibility and safe connection for bicycle access. The new proposal includes: ...- a new signalised crossing on the western side - a new shared path to connect the new crossing with Federation Way - wider shared footpaths on the north-western and north-eastern corners - bike lanterns, and - new kerb ramps. We encourage everyone to please go to the website and provide support and feedback for these safety improvements to improve safe cycling and avoid further injuries for the community - https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au//have-your-say-walking Thank you! 01.01.2022 15,000 trips a week are being undertaken on Sydney's new pop-up cycleways. If you like the pop-up cycleways we encourage you to write to your local council, MP or Transport for NSW and let them know. They need your support to help them stay and to build more, said Bicycle NSW CEO, Alistair Ferguson. And of course, keep on riding and sharing news of the pop-ups. https://bicyclensw.org.au/15000-trips-weekly-for-sydneys-/

01.01.2022 We've reported this poor path situation on Anzac Parade outside the Moore Park Light Rail stop to RMS and City of Sydney. Now that light rail station construction has been completed and the Anzac Parade signalised crossing is no longer there, the path configuration is a mess and needs to be updated. 1. the outdated and damaged crossing signage no longer reflects the walking and cycling connection and should be removed as the pole is now in the middle of the path (and not marked visibly for accessibility requirements). 2. Path surface is terrible and needs a sweep and smoothing (poor surface may cause people on bikes to slip, especially in poor lighting situations).

01.01.2022 Our letter to Bayside Council Mayor on the recent decision to not proceed with implementation of the proposed pop-up cycleways.
