19.01.2022 Motosacoche 720 | Switzerland , 1937. The story of the Motosacoche began when two brothers, Henri and Armand Dufaux, obtained a patent on an engine, which cou...ld be built into any motorcycle frame. The latest company’s thing was a motorcycle (model 720) equipped with a 850 cc flathead V-twin engine rating of 18 hp. By the early 1930s, Motosacoche bikes were equipped with drum brakes, frame-shaped petrol tanks and other innovations of those times. The signature feature of the 720 model was a fork, which followed the form of Harley-Davidson’s fork. Bosch electrical system, Amal carburettors, a MAG engine of own design and dozens of chrome plated parts made the Motosacoche Type 720 Tourisme Grand Luxe a very attractive machine of a luxurious appearance. The Great Depression killed a lot of small and medium manufacturers of bikes, and the Governments of France and Germany had gradually imposed restrictions on engines import. In the early 1930s, Triumph (a Nurenberg company) took a license for MAG engines in exchange for the provision of 250 cc two-stroke engine bikes and chassis (for engine mounting) to Switzerland. By 1936, the manufacturing of motorcycles and engines was decreased, and the production facilities were gradually crossed over to agricultural vehicles and stationary engines.

15.01.2022 the BMW Schneekrad was made in 1936 and it was one of the first motorcycle-snowmobile’s ever put together. There is no too ...much info about this machine and even this we have has different opinion’s about it’s heritage: some say it was an experimental BMW-powered snowmobile which was built by Riemerschmidt, a BMW engineer as a personal project. Others version says it’s Wehrmacht order. The only thing is known for sure: Nazi Germans were getting ready for the Alps in winter so they were in need of machine which could move fast enough in spite of the the snow and mud. There are two versions of which the name Schneekrad originated from. Schnee means snow and krad means caterpillar, but also Krad was the military abbreviation of the German word Kraftrad, the administrative German term for motorcycle. For this snowmobile Riemerschmidt used BMW R-12 engine in a Gleitkettenkraftrad or slip-chain motorcycle design and a Steib TR-500 sidecar. It’s very difficult to imagine how this machine was turning. There is almost no more information about this snowmobile which make us think it was abandoned project and possibly only one prototype was built. See more

12.01.2022 1947 SMZ М-76 | USSR In 1942, the State Defense Committee decided to establish the Leading Motorcycle Design Bureau in Serpukhov. Its core was formed by engin...eers who came from Izhevsk, led by the former chief designer of the Izhevsk motorcycle factory, Vsevolod V. Rogozhin. In 1946, the Design Bureau was reorganised into the Central Design and Experimental Bureau of Motorcycle Engineering. One of the main goals of the Central Design and Experimental Bureau was to improve the design of Soviet motorcycles. When in 1947, Irbit plant started to produce a sport 750cc M-75 motorcycle, engineers from Serpukhov began to work on its upgrading. The new M-76 motorcycle got aluminum cylinders instead of cast iron ones, a new camshaft, magneto and a lubrication system with dry crankcase. The degree of compression was raised to 9 units. Engine power was increased from 35 to 38 hp.

06.01.2022 1931 Matchless Silver Hawk | Great Britain Matchless Silver Hawk is the world's first ever dry samp V4 motorcycle. It's motor was extremely unusual. The fact... is that the four-cylinder engines at that time were made in-line, which increased the wheelbase of the motorcycle, made it more cumbersome. The V-shaped 4-cylinder arrangement solved this problem the compactness of the engine provided a more sporty appearance of Matchless Silver Hawk. The first appearance of Matchless Silver Hawk in public took place in London on November 10, 1930 at the famous Olympia exhibition center, where the motorcycle with its powerful four-cylinder engine got all the attention. The thing is that in England in the 1930s, any motorcycle with more than one cylinder was considered quite prestigious, and four-cylinder machines were a real luxury! That's why the Silver Hawk quickly became the flagship of the company.

02.01.2022 1940 Indian Four | USA The Indian Four model can be traced back to 1926, when Indian Motorcycle Co., after prolonged negotiations, bought from Michigan Motor...s Corporation the right to manufacture motorcycles under the Ace trademark. The first motorcycles produced under the brand name Indian were called simply the Indian Ace. The name was replaced in August 1927, the motorcycles were named Collegiate Four and got a new high-pressure oil system. The latest modification of the Four appeared in 1940, promising customers an unforgettable level of comfort when traveling on roads and highways. After 1940 Series Four motorcycles were manufactured for two more years, mostly per orders from law enforcement agencies. After the Pearl Harbor attack in December of 1941 all sales to civilians were temporarily stopped.

02.01.2022 1936 BSA Y13 | Great Britain Until 1936, the designations of BSA motorcycles had a double numerical index, which changed every year, and since 1936, with the... development of the next model range, each vehicle received its own name. So the heavy model G35-14 with a 1,000 cc engine simply became G 14, and the model J received a new 750 cc engine and was designated as Y13. In a strong belt frame of Y13 inscribed an engine with a capacity of 747 cc with a separate oil tank. This stunning 1936 BSA Y13 is the original ‘garage find’, which was first registered on July 30, 1936 in Sweden, and since then the motorcycle was owned only by two people. Unfortunately, BSA Y13 was produced for a very short time and only 1600 motorcycles were built in three years. By some estimates, there are only 15 motorcycles left in the world. Now it is one of the rarest and most expensive models of the BSA brand, and Y13 in original paint can be found only in "Motorworld by V.Sheyanov" museum.

02.01.2022 The 1913 Henderson - The Henderson Motorcycle Company was founded by Tom and William Henderson in 1912 in Detroit, Michigan. By 1913, the Henderson motorcycle,... referred to as" The Gentleman's Motorcycle," was a four-cylinder 1000cc machine with a long wheelbase that rivaled all makes in style and performance. See more
