Have you heard him say Hello to you yet? #goodtogo #thesemomentsmatter #townsvilleshines

24.01.2022 Meet the Dingoes! Every morning at 11:30 our rangers take Allira, King and Kalari for a stroll round the billabong, pausing along the way for pats and photos. As the park closes now at 2:00, we no longer present Dingo Experience, but rangers are happy to stop and chat and answer all your questions about these misunderstood apex predators. 24.01.2022 VOLUNTEER SNAPSHOT: Maddie is a chemistry major at JCU, who started volunteering with us about three months ago. She has since realized that her true passion is working with animals! Maddie now spends three days a week here, helping rangers with everything from cleaning enclosures to food prep. Watch for her during Roving Rangers or the croc feeding show, presenting reptiles for photo opportunities. 21.01.2022 He’s growing up fast! Look at this little fella sampling gum leaves-- he’s even giving the bark a try! He’ll soon learn to munch on only the tender green tips, just like his mum. Yes, it’s official-- Ruby’s joey is a little boy! We’re so excited that he’s spending more time out of the pouch these days. Watch for Puzzle’s little girl to come clambering out more often as well. 13.01.2022 Thanks to our friends at ABC North Queensland for a further story about this year's croc nesting season.
11.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: The original site of Billabong Sanctuary was a bare cow paddock. Bob and Del Flemming planted thousands of trees and created the wildlife park you see today. To celebrate our 35th birthday, we've created a photo gallery in the shop, where you can trace the development of the park from the original ‘Field of Dreams’ to the award winning tourist attraction enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors. Did you know? For 6 months the Flemmings lived in a tent on the banks of White’s Creek, with an outdoor shower and a dunny! Come see the pictures for yourself!
11.01.2022 Thank you to WIN News Townsville for posting news of such an exciting first for Billabong Sanctuary: two healthy koala joeys at the same time! 11.01.2022 Leapin’ Lizards! As you know, Sunday was the last day for our bird specialist Ranger Elyse. Just for fun, she ended the day with one final adventure: hand-feeding our magnificent perentie! One of the largest lizards on earth, the perentie is armed with long claws, sharp teeth, and a muscular whip-like tail. Not only that, they are mildly venomous! Elyse kept her cool and the perentie got a good feed. Good on ya, Elyse! We’ll miss you. Happy Trails.

08.01.2022 It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying a day at Billabong Sanctuary over the weekend. During the school holidays we have expanded the popular Roving Rangers activity. Between 10 am and 12:30 pm you can get up close and personal with our friendly natives. Hunter gives Blossom the Possum a gentle pat. Her fur is so soft!
08.01.2022 Snakes Alive! Aryan is fascinated by Cornelius, one of the friendly reptiles featured during Roving Rangers at 12 noon. One of the few non-native animals here at Billabong, Cornelius is a corn snake, native to the southeastern United States. We keep him under a special permit. Rangers bring him out to show off his beautiful markings, but also as an opportunity to highlight the importance of maintaining strict controls over potentially invasive species in Australia.... #goodtogo #thesemomentsmatter #townsvilleshines
08.01.2022 Launching an Exciting New Daily Programme! We know how much you love our crocodiles, so we’re giving you even more opportunities to be amazed by the speed and power of these incredible reptiles. Every day we’ll feature your favourites in an hour-long show, starting with our newest resident: Krakatoa! Rangers have just started feeding him inside the enclosure, to lure him up onto the bank. At 5.1 metres, he’s the largest croc on mainland Queensland. Awesome! Moving on, we’ll invite up to 10 lucky visitors to have fun feeding the freshies (no charge) and we’ll be feeding our other enormous salties and maybe even the American alligators. Check out all the details on our website here: https://www.billabongsanctuary.com.au/show-times/ #townsvilleshines
