25.01.2022 Our Year 7 students participated in the first of a range of outdoor adventure activities that will take place in the final weeks of Term 4. Working collaboratively, students connected with the natural environment in our grounds, learning skills that they will call on during EXIT programs and camps in years to come.

24.01.2022 Our Year 10 Indonesian students are currently studying Health in Indonesia and recently looked into Traditional Medicines. They have researched methods of the Dukun, the Spirit Doctor, and the process of Jamu, Health Elixirs. Students were given an ailment and were asked to briefly evaluate whether they would visit the Dukun or use Jamu as treatment. Their evaluations were excellent!

23.01.2022 Our Year 12 students were provided a care pack before they prepared for exams last month, including words of encouragement from our Year 7 students. Our best wishes to all our Year 12 students as they undertake the English exam this morning, and for the exams ahead.



23.01.2022 Yesterday our Middle School students participated in our Cross Country event. Their results were tallied and combined with those of our Senior School competitors, who ran last month. Drumroll... 1st place: Hovell 781 points... 2nd place: Walling 662 points 3rd place: Weeks 657 points 4th place: Wurundjeri 622 points Congratulations to Hovell for taking out the House Cross Country for 2020! The points from this event will tally towards the final House Cup for the year. Our congratulations also go to the top placing students in each event, results attached!

Billanook, and our Democracy Student Leaders have been hard at work behind the scenes, working on activities that can encourage connectedness across all levels of our College, and importantly, provide the support needed to those who are finding this year particularly challenging. Throughout this week we are asking our Community to share a photo of something that is bringing you joy at this time. 20.01.2022 Our Year 8 History students have been learning about the Medieval era. After conducting research, students designed posters or advertisements for 'new' inventions or wrote letters regarding topics of the times.

20.01.2022 Our Prep students are learning about money in our Learning from Home program, and the ways in which we use it every day. Last week they set up their own shops at home. Well done on some very inventive ideas! A gemstone shop, florist, café and a fish and chip shop.

20.01.2022 The College would like to thank our Cafe Manager, Joh, who after 15 years at Billanook is now taking up a role in her family's business. Joh has brought significant expertise, passion and dedication to the role- providing the community with the convenience of the canteen services as well as event catering. A review of the Cafe's services has been undertaken and the decision has been made to outsource the College's canteen and catering services from 2021. ... 20.01.2022 Our students have enjoyed learning about the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities this week during NAIDOC week. Our ELP students learnt the symbolic meaning behind the aboriginal flag, and listened to stories about Aboriginal tradition and connections to the land.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to 2020 Year 7 students Claudia Pitts and Fleur Jaunay! Fleur and Claudia were finalists in the 2020 Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF) National Songwriting Competition, for their song 'When I'm with You'. This is an extraordinary achievement that placed them in the top 11% of entries in Australia within their category. 19.01.2022 Today our Year 6 students enjoyed the first of three Adventure Days at School, run by Bindaree Outdoors. The range of activities help to build on previously learnt skills, as well as some new challenges. Students are asked to draw upon their resilience, communication skills, courage, persistence, support for each other, empathy, and sense of adventure to rise to each challenge, all of which encourages their learning both in the outdoors, and the classroom!

18.01.2022 During our Year 9 LINK wellbeing sessions this week, our team launched our ‘How to’ Live Series. Our Staff in Year 9 are sharing a life skill or passion, recognising that our students are particularly missing the day to day conversations and connections that they would ordinarily enjoy if learning onsite. These sessions are designed to:... - promote or support development of a ‘life skill’ or interest - be tactile, fostering kinaesthetic learning - be fun, interactive and engaging for students Some of the sessions this week included: - how to make fresh pasta - how to create an insect hotel I had a wonderful session with my group teaching them about my Italian heritage and the importance of using instinct and our senses in the kitchen. We made homemade Pasta. We had a basic recipe and then each student was encouraged to bring their own flair to their dish. - Ms Coffey Head of Year 9 LINK forms part of our student wellbeing and pastoral program - for Years 7 to 9. It aims to promote our College's core objectives, and is a place where we can explicitly and continuously display our commitment to; - a sense of community - learning - equity and social justice - acceptance, care and compassion - the environment - global awareness - challenge

17.01.2022 Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students have shown diligence, maturity, and kept a sense of creativity and fun in their work in Visual Arts this Term. Year 9 students have been studying the work of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Year 7 students have been learning about street art and KAWS. They have applied the influences of these styles and artists to their own work during our Learning from Home program with fantastic results. Well done!

17.01.2022 A magical way to end the Term! Billanook Primary students were treated to a personal tour of Disneyland, an exclusive meet and greet with some well known characters, front seat on all the rides- all topped off by the Disneyland Parade and fireworks spectacular. The only thing that rivalled the excitement of Disneyland was seeing our Primary community dressed up in their favourite character costumes.... Thanks to everyone who attended- you helped to make the experience especially magical. Particular mention goes to the Director of Disney- Mr Daniel Thomas. Have a great break everyone!

12.01.2022 To conclude Unit 2 AOS 1 Sanctions, our Year 11 Legal Studies class examined the Chamberlain case. Students noted the evidence presented in the case, as well as evidence that was not presented. The class looked at the outcome of the coroners case, the trial and were tasked with evaluating the impact and role of the media. Our students also watched ‘Evil Angels’, and the recent 7News report ‘The Lindy Tapes’ and discussed the messages of the tshirts sold during the trial. To conclude the research the class performed several cartoon analyses during small group discussions.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to the following students who recently recorded some fantastic results in Geography! In the GTAV’s MapIT! Competition, Year 7 (2020) students Katherine Mende placed second in the state and Ebony Barnet was a state finalist! Several Year 10 students excelled in this year’s Geography Competition. Our congratulations to Kelsey Paterson, Hayden Hor and Xavier Lanham Distinctions (top 20%) and Maddy Hill High Distinction (top 12%)

11.01.2022 Our Prep students recently took a trip to the zoo. Dressed as zoo keepers they explored Melbourne Zoo virtually while learning about the animals and endangered species found at our zoo.

09.01.2022 Our Year 11 Foundations Maths students investigated the infiltration rate of soil in their backyard as part of their Environment and Water unit last Term. They measured out soil, placed it in a funnel with a filter, then measured the volume of water that filters through the soil in ten minutes. This allowed them to calculate the infiltration rate and compare it to other students in the class.

08.01.2022 This Semester our Year 7 students received an authentic introduction to the German language. Students were asked to explore the essential question ‘How German is your everyday life?’. Students looked at their online local supermarket website for products from Germany including household items, food items, stationery and even German cars. Our Year 7’s also looked into German representation in sport through Roger Federer- even though a Swiss Grand Slam tennis player, German is a language of Switzerland. Although a virtual introduction to a new language, students were able to experience the real-life influences of Germany in Australia as well as throughout the world.

06.01.2022 A huge thank you to our Primary students and their families for a fantastic effort in Jump Rope For Heart. Together we raised $4054.68 for the Heart Foundation and skipped for over 101 hours!

06.01.2022 Farewell Ann Kane! Ann has been a loyal and dedicated employee for 31 years since commencing in February 1989. For the first two years she worked as a Parent Liaison Officer and Network & Fundraising Co-ordinator before moving to the role of Accounts Payable Clerk in July 1991 and has been an integral member of the Accounts department ever since. Ann and her family have made a significant contribution to the College since its inception. Her husband Robert attended the very... first Public Meeting held at Lilydale in 1977 to discuss the establishment of a new independent school in the eastern suburbs ‘Billanook College’ and both Ann and Robert served on the College Board and Friends of Billanook committee. In the early days she worked tirelessly to fundraise for the College and was instrumental in the organisation of such events as the Bush Fair, Open Day, Presentation Evening and Art and Craft Show. Both of her children are past students (Ros Class of 1994 and Deb Class of 1998) and current employees. Her grandson Sebastian is also a current student at Billanook in Grade 5. We wish Ann all the very best as she makes plans for the future and I look forward to formally recognising her immense contribution to the College at the Bridge Awards in 2021.

06.01.2022 A group of our Year 8 students are working remotely to develop and produce a creative writing anthology for the Billanook Community. This collaboration between the English Learning Area and the College’s enhancement program STTEP, provides students who excel in creative writing to be guided in the process of writing, editing, producing and publishing a collection of written works. This year, the group have recognised that writing is for many among us a pastime that provides e...ntertainment, relaxation and comfort and for that reason they are asking for submission from the wider Billanook Community to their publication. 03.01.2022 The $20 Boss forms part of our Discovery Learning program for Year 8 students. It is an entrepreneurship program where students are provided with $20 of start-up capital to create, launch and operate their own business. The format looks a little different this year, however never have the Discovery skills of Problem Solving, Creative Thinking, Digital Capability and Resilience been so relevant! Our Students are working hard at developing and applying these skills to their bu...siness ideas. Although there will not be the traditional $20 Boss Father’s Day market, students are still able to create a business plan, create marketing materials and produce costings and samples. There have been a huge range of businesses created, with many continuing as normal, by taking their business online. Some samples of the businesses below:
