25.01.2022 Very sad to hear of the passing of Judy Gay today. She was a wonderful lady and one of the an early female pioneers of fishing Cairns giant black marlin. RIP Judy

24.01.2022 Exactly 34 years ago today, Janette Shuttleworth landed this amazing 29.4-kilogram (64-pound, 13-ounce) narrowbarred mackerel to set the IGFA Women’s 4-kg (8 lb) Line Class World Record. Janette was fishing out of Mackay, Queensland, Australia, and fought the record mackerel for 75-minutes on her Shimano TLD 5 after it struck a live barracuda she was using for bait. This was Janette’s only IGFA record setting catch, but certainly an impressive one that still stands today. 22.01.2022 Nothing to see here, just taking my marlin home

19.01.2022 Florida Salty Cowgirl and Blue Water Girl This is what Sisterhood fishing is all about!! I am blessed to part of a group of ladies some who I have never met but... will very soon . This sailfish was caught aboard the Gypsy Girl with my dear fishing sister, Angelia Coniglio Swanson and my beautiful mom, Rebecca Deyo just my first trip back on the water after my fathers unexpected passing. The Gypsy Girl had some mechanical issues prior and I went on a seatrial to make sure all was well with the little Yanmar. It was such a beautiful morning, the tide was low and the skies were foggy. As I came out of the channel, I could see fog moving in over the island but knew the visibility at the reef would be good. The Atlantic Ocean was the slickest I have ever witnessed as the Gamefisherman cut it like butter and we rolled out a little past the reef. It was early morning and a slight west wind so I decided to fish two flat lines and increase my speed by a few knots with a weighted islander and a skirted rigged ballyhoo. After trolling for an hour, the Penn Senator went to screaming and the sailfish started jumping!! We landed that fish and got a nice photo and swam her back for the release. As a general rule I do not like to remove sailfish from the water for their safety but I made an exception. The Fog became very thick so I decided to end the seatrial and head home. On the way, a beautiful arch appeared from the fog almost navigating me safe back into the channel. I will never forget this day even if I was only out for two hours for the rest of my life. Make Memories and Make Adventures!! Many thanks to all for coming along and following my adventures!! Hope to see you on the water!! 12.01.2022 Repost from @kelldallfall Congratulations to Lily Sims for her new pending World Record black marlin of 15.1kg on 1kg line. This one has a bit of significance in my family so I thought I’d also share it here. Lily’s record will break my mother’s existing World Record of 11kg on 1kg line that has stood for 34 years.... As mum says, records are made to be broken and so she’s extremely happy for Lily who did such an awesome job! Mum was the first angler male or female to catch a black marlin on 1kg in the world. The first male capture was two years later and also became the first Men’s World Record (and incidentally was also caught fishing with my skipper dad). By then mum already had already held the 2kg record for two years likewise being the first woman to do that. She went on to lose, then regain that 2kg record several times over the years and still holds it today. She was and is an awesome angler and I’m lucky enough to have fished along side her in a few tournaments here and there. Incidentally mum’s fish was caught in 20 mins. She and I both think Lily deserves extra amazing kudo’s not only for the capture but for fighting the fish for so long (over 2hrs) on what is essentially fairy floss lol I thought about chasing this record once upon a time thinking it might be cool to break my own mother’s record, but I never got past the thinking stage into acting on it So take that Coronavirus, one upside at least!! Again huge congrats Lily. Here’s to the next one. Am sure there will be many! #blackmarlin #blackmarlinblog #worldrecord #cairnsmarlin #billfishbabes @joinigfa

01.01.2022 ' - Tracy Brislane Many thanks to the major sponsor City of Karratha, for donating at two IGMR sat tags to the King Bay Game Fishing Club for the opportunity to learn more about the migrating patterns of juvenile black marlin in the Dampier area. It is important we understand where these animals go and how they utilise their habitat provides invaluable data to scientists and resou...rce managers to help ensure long-term billfish conservation. The IGMR has fundamentally changed the way that scientists, anglers, and policymakers understand billfish. Tracy Brislane is the first person to ever have placed a sat tag into a black marlin in Dampier waters Western Australia. KBGFC is working together with IGFA and Stanford University, to learn more about billfish biology and how the fish interact within their habitat. Due to tropical shallow waters in the Dampier Archipelago, there are big numbers of Sailfish regularly caught there but very few juvenile blacks are amongst them. What a challenge to locate a rare or random juvy of the optimal size for tagging. Committed to the task, Tracy, Olivia (daughter) & husband Leon (skipper) Boat onboard "Le Frog" Spent over fifty plus hours trolling over five trips trying to locate the right one to tag. It was on the fifth trip that they finally got a 35kg model which was perfect for the data but on all five trips, they struggled with adverse weather conditions making everything so much harder. This fish couldn't resist a Pakula Mini Sproket lure & also the second tag was deployed the next day into an estimated 80kg fish by another KBGFC member. The two hundred days waiting game for the data has begun with the sat tag being released into the fish on the 26th of December 2020. The outcome of this information will most certainly be very fascinating as Dampier doesn’t see many blacks over the 50kg variety but an odd 100kg model sometimes. The question now poses Where do they go as grow to bigger fish? We will just have to wait and see. Standby for the updated information to come later in the year. Meanwhile, the Brislane family are now having a little billfish break & before resuming back to tagging sailfish. Tight lines!
