18.01.2022 Learning about our nations first people requires more than sitting in a room and re-telling the stories of our old people. It requires re-tracing the footsteps of our ancestors and getting out on country to experience it first hand.

18.01.2022 Jellurgal Bingings For Burleigh Heads Community Childcare Centre.

17.01.2022 Our history is both black and white! As we near a day that divides our nation I’d like to ask everyone to reflect upon this country’s history. Let go of the shame and open our hearts and minds. Let’s all stay on the positive side of the racial divide and find our own ways to respect and rejoice in this beautiful land we call Australia. Much love, as always Billie xo... https://youtu.be/wVos5nihCNA

16.01.2022 INDIGENOUS IS WHAT WE SAY

16.01.2022 Art workshops with the Educators at Helensvale OHSC before conducting art workshops with the children. The philosophy behind this approach is to build cultural confidence with people who can continue to imbed Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander perspectives into their daily programs. By culturally arming the Educators we continue to close the gap and eliminate the idea that learning about our nations first people is a one off but rather have it as normal practice and part of our daily learnings.

15.01.2022 Our Indigenous Cultural Display is complete. What talent Billie has, these paintings are simply beautiful. Implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pr...actices within our service forms part of our weekly program. We are very fortunate to have Billie as our very own Indigenous Consultant, to ensure what we plan is culturally appropriate. Indigenous Culture not only occurs when Billie is here, our Educator's work alongside the children daily to embed this practice.

12.01.2022 Some Monday motivation for anyone wanting to know how to connect to country and culture: There are some aspects of Aboriginality that are sacred and privy to certain members of that community only. But every Australian can learn from and embrace the fundamentals of a First Nation perspective when it comes to the land and its creatures. Below is a list of suggestions and a starting point for those wanting a deeper understanding of and connection to Aboriginal philosophy....Continue reading

11.01.2022 We are so lucky to have Miss Billie Jean at our centre on Wednesdays as part of our cultural inclusion program. Over the past few weeks, Billie Jean has introdu...ced us to Aboriginal totems and the roles of Aboriginal women, hunting and gathering and we’ve even made our own ochre! As the weeks go on we will continue to learn all about the Aboriginal culture and even create a bush tucker garden together! See more

11.01.2022 Today we recognise and celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. ‘Indigenous peoples are inheritors and practitioners of unique culture...s and ways of relating to people and the environment. They have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, Indigenous peoples from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples.’ https://www.un.org/en/observances/indigenous-day/background

06.01.2022 Today Billie presented us with this beautiful hand painted Indigenous Art. Keep an eye out for the story behind this piece of artwork which will explain the con...nection between Indigenous Culture, the child's home environment and our service environment. We will have a display wall in our foyer that will be continually updated which will represent how we embedd Indigenous Culture within our service. We will continue to build upon children's understandings of diversity.

04.01.2022 Ready for some art workshops tomorrow

04.01.2022 With the help of the inclusion support agency we are trialling new ways in which we roll out certain programs. Rather than focusing solely on care environment sessions with the children, the knowledge and information is being passed down to educators themselves through intense, focused and knowledge based information sessions. Our philosophy with this approach is to ensure educators and services are confident in continuing to embed Indigenous perspectives to create long lasting inclusive change and practises. For more information contact Billie Musk Indigenous consultancy on 0421973528 or your local inclusion professional.
