19.01.2022 Amnesty International and the Franklin Palais Team invite you to enjoy a summer evening's celebration of resilience and kindness to mark International Human Rights Day at the Franklin Palais, Thursday 10th December 6pm - 9pm. The event begins with inspirational guest speakers Rodney Dillon, Amnesty Australia's Indigenous Rights Advisor, Prof. Tim McCormack, Special Adviser on International Humanitarian Law to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague and... Director of World Vision Australia, and local Ahwazi Refugee Arad Niksefatms, sharing his story of coming to the Huon Valley and the beauty of the culture of the Ahwazi people. This will be followed by a Q&A with all three. After intermission and yummy food, there will be a 20-minute film of Nurmuhammad Majid's visit to southern Tasmania on a speaking tour to raise awareness of the situation of the Uyghur people... and the beauty of their culture. Robert Alcock's film 'Nur Speaks Out' is a fly-on-the-wall reflection of three days of Nur's journey. Pasha (previously of Pasha's Turkish Restaurants) has kindly offered to prepare food for sale on the evening. Amnesty Southern Group will hold a Write for Rights Stall at the event and will have a petition for the vitally important campaign to Raise the Age of Criminal Responsibility from 10 years to 14.
