19.01.2022 It is likely you are, like me, dismayed at the current bushfire crisis we are experiencing in Australia. An estimated 1 billion animals have perished, people have died and thousands are having to rebuild their lives. With a lack of words to describe the situation, it is just so sooo sad. A lot of people are blaming the government for their lack of environmental interventions. I share their frustrations however, instead of waiting and expending energy being angry at the govern...ment, we need to ensure we are doing our best in reducing our own environmental impact and lead by example. In basically every home that I visit I see simple opportunites for reduction of energy, water and waste. In this post I have listed some really, very, simple things that can be instilled TODAY, at no cost, to improve every homes environmental footprint, some you will be aware of, some you may not. 15.01.2022 Hey guys! Ive just been reading some comments on various posts about setting up a kids workspace and wanted to pass on some of my knowledge to those who are schooling at home. Kids workspaces should be free from clutter - the dining table is fine but tidy it up first, remove the piles of unfiled bills etc. Remove your keys, sunglasses and any other table clutter, give them a nice, clear, visually peaceful space. Visual clutter can really confuse kids.... Don't put them in a room on their own where they are separated from the rest of the household. They are probably already missing their friends and companions - they're used to a noisy classroom, so where possible have them with you or in the main activity space (but away from TVs). Turn their desk away from the wall, set them up so they are facing into the room. Facing a wall works against our innate survival mechanisms, we can't see what's coming. Kids, especially younger kids still have these senses heightened and their stress levels will be higher, even if only subtly, if they have their back to activity or circulation behind them. Not great for focus and concentration. Make sure they have plenty of natural light and views to the outdoors where possible. Organise the space with everything they need for the day, trays are a good way to organise different activities but even placemats work. The homeschool carts are pretty great if you happen to have anything like that lying around! I've setup a pinterest board for anyone who wants examples and inspiration, though it's perfect pinterest so don't get carried away and keep it real! FYI, Cass is currently set up on one short end of my desk and we're working together, I'm doing TAFE work while he's doing school - it's not ideal but it suits our current situation! https://www.pinterest.com.au/Billyhoostudio/kids-workspace/
