24.01.2022 STEM in Action. Science was especially fun this week as the children explored the 'green magic' of plants called chlorophyll. Educator Steph Roberts led the children through a process of enquiry based learning in the area of natural science. In the photos you can see the children using hammers to extract the chlorophyll from the leaves.

23.01.2022 Sustainability at Billy Kids. One of our keen interests at Billy Kids is getting our staff and children into good sustainability habits. Pymble educator Sandi de Souza is leading the way in her new role as sustainability leader. Each day Sandi takes the children through the routine of emptying compost buckets into the newly constructed compost bin complete with a worm family (the children named the worms after their teachers!) Sandi has also started a gardening project with the children growing carrot & snowpeas from seeds and adding a white aspen to our bush tucker garden.

We were even lucky enough to have a donation from Palm Beach & Co for our raffle this year. A beautiful way to acknowledge and get together the Mums of our BillyKids community! 22.01.2022 Billy Kids Pymble gets license...we did it! It's been a busy time at our new Pymble Centre preparing for our licensing visit last week. Staff worked with our designer Jodie and handyman Rob around the clock to complete the finishing touches to what has been a long but exciting journey. Today we received the approval letter so it's all systems go to recruit staff and welcome families to Billy Kids Early Learning Pymble.

21.01.2022 When we see children as capable, competent learners, we find ways to connect them authentically with the events in the world around them. At Billy Kids Pymble we were so lucky to have one of our parents Kate come in for a special talk with our Lorikeets (2-3 year olds) and Kookaburras (3-5 year olds). Kate brought in her service medals (as well as her partner Michelle’s, both of whom serve in the Navy) to share with the children, opening up a conversation about gratitude for those who keep our country safe. She also told us what ANZAC day meant for her and what she will be doing. We presented Kate with an Anzac Day wreath of poppies made by the children to say thank you from our Billy Kids Pymble community for their time and sacrifice in serving for our country. 18.01.2022 3...2...1...Blast off! In the Swallowtail Room (4-5 years) the children have been exploring space. This investigation project has blossomed from child-led play, where our teachers have introduced meaningful learning experiences that extend their thinking. Collaboratively these little astronauts have created a space rocket out of recycled materials, researched the effects of gravity, used observational drawing skills to draw their own rockets and put together a Space themed dramatic play area. What a blast of fun!

18.01.2022 Staff Week at Pymble Prior to opening our Pymble Centre the new staff team at Pymble spent an amazing week together, immersed in professional development! We got to know each other and had some great conversations about philosophy, values and creating wonder in environments. We also engaged first hand in practical science and art experiences using our beautiful Atelier space.

17.01.2022 Billy Kids take a keen interest in the environment, sustainable practices and simply just 'loving nature'. We have recently started composting our green scraps into bins which will provide great organic matter for our herb & vege gardens. The children particularly enjoy taking care of the worms in the worm farm- learning that nature can be useful and fun at the same time!

17.01.2022 Painting in Harmony Colours The children at Bilgola have been working on painting projects to decorate wall space for their new sister Centre at Pymble. Today we used a selection of colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel to create 'cool' colour backgrounds. Once these were dry the children collected leaves with interesting vein patterns from the Bilgola playground. These leaves were painted and then used to make a print against our gorgeous backgrounds.

16.01.2022 KindiFarm visits us at BillyKids Bilgola! Lots of gentle pats as the children shared their love around with these furry friends. We met Ginger the rabbit, Dotty the duck, fed Chocolate the goat some milk and had special cuddles with 2 very cosy chicks. Animals are a beautiful way to help children build on empathy, and enrich their learning about nature

16.01.2022 Have you met our travelling recycling robot? Made in the Lorikeets Room (2-3’s) by our passionate educator Varshini and the children, this robot has been making its way around Billy Kids Pymble for a month. Even the Butterflies Room (0-2’s) enjoyed feeding the robot some recycling materials! Our educators are keen to instil ideas of sustainability in our children and introduce ways in which we can take care of our environment. While everyday discussions occur mostly arou...nd our routine (eg. saving water, electricity, or feeding our food waste to the worms), this recycling robot has allowed us to invite families to join in. We know you are talking about sustainability with your children too as we learn from the children’s collective knowledge such as water is precious (Aryan, 3.3 y.o) and paper comes from trees (Leo, 3.11 y.o)(Kookaburras Room, 30/4/19). Thank you to all our families for providing recycling materials so we can have fun feeding the hungry robot and continue to have valuable conversations around sustainability!

We want our children and staff to love the world they live in and be an active part of its nurture and care. One of our suppliers is a company called Green Toys who make strong, safe and fun toys using 100% recycled plastic. The toys that you can see here are actually made from those plastic milk containers, which makes us at Billy Kids feel a whole lot better every time we put one into the recycling bin!

10.01.2022 Billy Kids | Bushfire Relief At Billy Kids it has been "adopt-a-koala" week. The children have been bringing in donations and in doing so they receive a small clip-on Koala and a special certificate. The funds raised are going to both WIRES and The Jamanee Gunya re-build to help animals and environments that have suffered during these terrible fires. 04.01.2022 Getting outdoors into our natural environment is such an important part of the day for the children at Billy Kids. This provides the children with the opportunity to explore their surroundings, develop their physical skills, problem solve, role play, get creative and engage in many social interactions. The children just love running around our beautiful play ground getting their little hands dirty.

04.01.2022 Supporting our Farmers! This week at Bilgola the families and staff are doing their bit to help the drought relief! The children and staff have all been coming to kindy dressed in farm attire along with a gold coin donation and in return placing a water drop on our drought board. The week has been fun filled with games, barn dances, an interactive farmers market set up in our home corner and so much more. All money raised will be sent straight to our farmers!

04.01.2022 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...BLAST OFF!!!! At Billy Kids our programs are based off the children’s interests and ideas. As mentioned in the EYLF, Making use of children’s interest to provide engaging and meaningful learning experiences is important. The preschool children at Bilgola recently began an investigation into space after a child spoke of the blood moon. This then became a topic of interest which lead the children to creating this rocket ship using all recycled materials found within the centre! We are so proud of our little ones.

04.01.2022 This week the children have been learning about Diwali- festival of lights. These enriching experiences have been led by Varshini who shared with the children images of her wedding sari. The children also engaged in creating their own diyas (lamps) out of playdough and indian spices. Coloured Rice was used to make Rangoli designs which are created to mark the start of this celebration.

04.01.2022 Pymble Playground Starts Taking Form After a slow few months things are starting to ramp up with getting our playground ready for our Opening early 2018. Today our Director, Donna started work with the landscapers and local artist Yvonne Cleaver on creating a sensory garden pathway featuring colourful mosaic pavers made by Yvonne. The pathway of mosaics and tree logs will meander through the playground, arriving at a small world garden for imaginary play, enclosed by a garden... arbour. We can't wait to see the finished product . . . and are even more excited about the play and learning that is going to happen once the children arrive! See more

02.01.2022 At Billy Kids Bilgola we have two very adored furry pets! Meet Bear and Tilly, our bunnies. The bunnies live in our beautiful outdoor playground and are very well looked after by the staff and children! You will often find Bear and Tilly being cuddled or hopping around the yard happily. The rabbits bring so much joy and happiness to the children. Having pets at kindy helps the children's nurturing skills, responsibility, empathy and communication.

01.01.2022 The 2017 Christmas picnic was a tremendous success this weekend! We had a fantastic turnout from all our wonderful families, and had a fun filled day of arts and crafts, face painting, and sporting events. The day was capped off with arrival of Santa who presented each child it a lolly bag to celebrate this festive season

01.01.2022 Yesterday we celebrated the opening of the butterfly patch. A new garden within Billy Kids that our friend Les and Dave our gardener have been working on. The garden features many indigenous plants, rocks that the children have painted, a special path that winds around until we reach a beautiful yarning circle. There is still work to be done including the addition of three humpys a special space for each class group. Les commenced with a traditional smoking ceremony. This was followed by all of the children, educators and guests entering the garden, following the path and sprinkling sand in to our yarning circle. A very special day. More photos to come!
