23.01.2022 Here's an oldy that I took myself for the local paper. I competed in the sparring tournament this night as a blue belt in my second tournament. This was back in... the days when we were still called "Bob Jones Karate" - before Zen Do Kai was even invented! Don't you love the "Sempai Billy Manne Shodan." Haha! See more

14.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that the Kids’ Classes will resume on Monday 22nd of June at 4.30. The timetable will be as normal. The only alteration will be tha...t the 5.15 class will finish at 5.55 so that there is not any congestion as the adults arrive. We are not able to have spectators. However, we feel it is important to have one parent watching who is prepared to act as the eyes for all the parents. So, if someone would like to take that role that would be great. Fees: - If you are on direct debit, the debits will resume next week. If you are on Term fees, you have a week’s credit from last term. If you wish to pay for the school holidays, the fees for the school holidays are: - $30 for one class per week for both weeks of the school holidays Or $50 for unlimited classes per week for both weeks of the school holidays. If you wish to prepaid for Term 3 and school holidays, the fees are: - $170 for one class per week including school holidays. $140 for one class per week excluding school holidays $265 for unlimited classes per week including school holidays $205 for unlimited classes per week excluding school holidays. If you have not been able to work and have experienced financial distress due to the shutdown, please still bring your children. You can ring Sensei Simone (0434266527) and we will cover your child’s fees until you have recovered financially. We understand; it has been really hard for many people. If you are able to pay fees, please pay them as soon as possible. It has been very challenging for us since we have not been able to work since 23rd of March. If you come into the gym, please maintain social distancing at all times and please keep your child home if any family member is unwell. We are so looking forward to seeing you all soon. Soke Billy and Sensei Simone Manne

13.01.2022 Classes recommence on Monday 22nd of June! There will be some slight adjustments to our timetable. We request that you please don't come into the building until five minutes before your class.... Please maintain social distance and maximise hygiene . Direct debits will recommence next week. If you have been unable to work due to Covid 19 and cannot afford fees please contact Simone. Billy and I understand completely given we have been unable to work for 3 months. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone.

05.01.2022 This is a time of great stress for many people. It is disturbing to see how alcohol is being purchased. Stress and alcohol can be can create a nightmare for th...ose being abused. Locked away for literally days on end with the person that you are terrified of and no escape. Add in the fact that the abusing person maybe highly stressed, financially comprised and consuming too much alcohol and this is the abused person's worse nightmare. What can those who support MAADA do? All we can do is reach out. Firstly to those who are abused. Shelters are still open. There has been a huge spike in Google searches for shelters and information. Become familiar with what services are available locally and refer if necessary. The other thing that we ask particularly the men of BJMA to do is to reach out to any man that you may think is under immense pressure . Sometimes having a strong male role model such as your Martial Arts instructor say to you "I am here for you, mate. Let me know if you are not coping" can provide an outlet for that pent up stress. It is a small thing but we all need someone to talk. It can make such a difference. Please take care. Look after your mental well being; remember nutritious food and minimising alcohol intake will help your mental health. Soke Billy Manne and Simone See more

03.01.2022 Dear everyone. Please take a look at this beautiful face and then make a promise to call 000 if you ever hear someone screaming. This is 35-year-old Kim Murphy.... Kim was murdered this week in her home at Morphett Vale in South Australia. As her former partner was allegedly brutalising Kim, the mum was screaming for her life. Her screams ricocheted through her neighbourhood over a significant length of time yet not one person lifted a finger to help. Not one of her neighbours made the effort to pick up the phone to call the cops. Chances are, if someone bothered to make that phone call, Kim would be alive today. Instead police arrived at her home some 19 hours later long after she had died. And they were only there because a friend made the call after becoming concerned at not hearing from her. Kim should be watching her children grow into adults. She should be enjoying her life in peace. Sadly, these rights have been taken from her. Kim had been suffering through ongoing domestic violence and had only recently been staying in a refuge, a number of people have told me. She lived under a constant threat of violence and abuse. Yes. I know Kim's death is entirely the responsibility of her killer, but his actions do not negate the roll we as bystanders have when it comes to violence. The reality is, we can't stop violent men but we can take actions that reduce the impact of their violence on victims. One of the easiest, safest and most important things we can do is to call police when we suspect a woman is in danger. If you hear a woman screaming or other suspicious sounds, just pick up the damn phone. Call 000. Just do it. A few minutes' effort could save a life. And if as some people have told me cops don’t act, keep on calling them, go down to the station, don’t let them fob you off. Let’s make this promise now in memory of Kim and for all the women and children living with violence in our country. Kim is the 14th woman killed this year - 67 Australians have been lost to murder manslaughter in 2020. RIP KIM MURPHY See more
