25.01.2022 Salt and sodium are often used interchangeably but they refer to different things. Salt is made up of sodium and chloride and it is the sodium in salt that can be bad for your health in large amounts. It is recommended for adults to consume no more than 2000mg of sodium (5g or one teaspoon) per day. However, the average Australian consumes more the twice that a day. Our bodies need sodium to help regulate and circulate blood and other fluids. However, if we consume too much s...alt in our diet it will then cause high blood pressure otherwise known as hypertension. High blood pressure is a gate way to a number of chronic conditions such as; Heart failure Fluid retention Kidney problems, such as kidney stones Stroke Left ventricular hypertrophy, also known as the thickening of the heart muscle Read more: http://ow.ly/PZgY50BHlzd

25.01.2022 To help put in perspective just how important the liver is to your health is a hard task, in short everything we eat, breathe and absorb is then detoxified and broken down by the liver. Just from this one statement you could imagine how hard the liver is working so we can start to understand why we need to look after it. Besides the major task of detoxing the body it also helps manage blood sugar levels by turning the carbohydrates we eat into glucose, so our body can use it ...as energy. When we have too much glucose it is then stored as glycogen which can then be used later on, so our body is always fuelled. Read more: http://ow.ly/eaZF50AMZPx

24.01.2022 Things to remember when returning to exercise: Start off slow your fitness will build up, dont burn out straight away. Aim for 30-minute sessions and then build yourself up to more if wanted.... Always warm up 5 to 10 minutes is all you need and then always cool down, stretch your muscles as this will help with recovery. Remember building a habit takes time. Write down your goal and visualize what you want from starting an exercise routine. Try new things, find the style that you enjoy. Be prepared, buy new activewear and gym equipment to help be motivated Monitor your progress - take photos, keep a diary or find an app. You dont have to exercise 5 days a week, make it suit your lifestyle and it will work more effectively. Most importantly listen to your body and rest! http://ow.ly/dwzm50AiiAY

16.01.2022 What snacks should you keep in your office drawer? Mixed nuts and seeds: provide you with protein, fibre and healthy fats to get you through the 3pm slump. Make your own trail mix with your favourite unroasted and unsalted varieties but be sure to portion it out (about 30-35g) if you have trouble stopping at a small handful. Add some dark chocolate pieces for an extra antioxidant boost and chocolate hit. Tuna: Tins of tuna are an easy snack which will help keep your hunger at... bay. Tuna is packed with protein, omega-3 fatty acids, selenium and Vitamin D. The high content of omega-3 fatty acids in tuna supports brain function to get you through the working day. Instant Oatmeal Packets: Oats are often considered to be a breakfast food, but a bowl of instant oatmeal will keep you full for hours. Oats contain a good source of carbs and fibre and are rich in antioxidants making them a nutritious snack. Unflavoured is best as flavoured options are often high in sugar. Add some nuts and seeds for an extra nutritional boost and top with a small amount of honey and cinnamon for sweetness. Homemade protein bliss balls / bars: The options are limitless. Make a batch up at the beginning of the week and store in the freezer to always have some on hand. Bliss balls are a great way to indulge your sweet tooth and with the right ingredients can provide an excellent combination of carbohydrates, healthy fats, protein and can be high in fibre. Dark chocolate: packed full of nutrients and one of the best sources of antioxidants, however, be mindful of brands that are low in cocoa content and high in sugar. Aim for 70% cocoa content or higher. Ideally, the darker the better. Youll also be less likely to overconsume because a small amount is all that youll need. It is also a good idea to find individually wrapped squares which provide a convenient portioned controlled chocolate hit. Read more: http://ow.ly/La8D50AiiL4

You can find these wraps in a range of sizes and they can be used to cover almost anything that you would use cling wrap for. 12.01.2022 Weve all heard of our kidneys and how important they are, but do we really know their functions and how to look after them? The kidneys are two kidney bean shaped organs that sit on either side of the spine at the lowest level of the rib cage. Their main job is to clean the blood of toxins and transform certain body waste into urine. The production of urine involves highly complex steps of excretion and reabsorption. This process is necessary to maintain a stable balance of... the body chemicals. When this process falters harmful toxins and excess fluid build-up in the body can occur, which may cause the symptoms of kidney failure.
