21.01.2022 Black Bean Hummus What you need: * 1 can (400g) black beans, keep the water from the can * 1 garlic clove, minced... * 2 tbsp olive oil * 2 tbsp tahini * 2 tbsp lime juice * 1/2 tsp cumin * 1/2 tsp salt * 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper What you need to do: 1. In a food processor, blend until smooth 1/4 cup of water from the can of black beans with garlic, olive oil, tahini, lime juice and spices. 2. Add the black beans and blend for another 1-2 minutes, until creamy and smooth. 3. Serve as a dip with fresh vegetables or crackers. 4. Store in a sealed contained in the fridge for up to 1 week. 20.01.2022 Cottage cheese, avocado and sundried tomato breakfast wrap What you need: 1 3/4 cups (400g) cottage cheese 2 avocados, stone removed... 4 medium corn wraps 2/3 cup (100g) sundried tomatoes 4 handfuls lettuce What you need to do: 1) Heat the wraps according to the instructions. Mash the avocado with a fork and spread over the corn wraps. Season with salt and pepper. 2) Next, divide the cottage cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce over the avocado. Roll the wraps and wrap them tightly in cling film. Keep the wraps in the refrigerator until required. Enjoy

18.01.2022 One of the things we are passionate about at Bio Active is the awareness of mental health. It's not just a 'one day a year' that you ask someone "R U OK?", it should be an every day occurance. Sharing a blog that was recently written by one of our Coaches, Matt. Whilst there is a time and place that medication can help, the power of exercise is quite often overlooked as the first prescription...... How exercise can help the current mental landscape The importance of health and wellbeing has generally been understated. People would agree that having a regular routine around diet and exercise would label someone as healthy, but how many of those recognise mental fortitude and stability that type of activity brings as well? Those that do value its psychological benefits almost more so than the physical. According to the world health organisation, health is described as, ‘a state of physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease’. (WHO) Obesity, Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease are continuing to rise and from a practicing health professional, recognising that this battle is just as much if not more psychological than it is biological/physical which can and will make a difference. It is not to be overlooked that these conditions co-exist with or brought on by symptoms of depression and anxiety. People feel vulnerable, passion and drive feels elusive and the fear of failing all affects how we go about our days, influences our behaviours which can bread but most importantly yield disease. So how do we deal with this, well we need to take action for ourselves and others. Having the courage to speak up is one thing but to have people that truly listens and are willing to help makes the difference from not only curing mental health but PREVENTING it (better managing). Exercise is simply just one tool to help us manage but I believe a vital one, so on that note have you done one of the following over the last week. 1. Got in touch with someone that you maybe haven’t talked to in a while. Not only does this expand your support system, but entices 2. Stated something you were grateful or appreciative for. Positivity is infectious and taking a moment to step out and reflect on things can easily lift moods. 3. Have you planned your weekend? Most people look forward to their weekend, but how many wait until Friday to think about it. Your opportunities grow when you plan to do activities, especially things you enjoy 4. Had a moment to simply breathe. Tension grows throughout the day by 15mins of deep purposeful breathing is enough to bring anxiety down and bring clarity to your mind. 5. Exercised at least 30mins/ day. Even better when exercise becomes training, but 30mins light to moderate exercise has been proven to reduce depressive symptoms

So we can see if there is any dysfunction that needs to be addressed prior to loading the body. It also helps prevent injury. We hear time and again about the significant injuries that people get training in a normal gym environment. This shouldn't be the norm, and should stop being accepted. We are not a normal gym. 07.01.2022 Zucchini Fries What you need: * 500g zucchini * 1 clove garlic, crushed ... * 1 egg * 1 tsp plant milk * 4 tbsp breadcrumbs * 1 tsp dried oregano * 1 tsp dried thyme * 3 tbsp olive oil What you need to do: 1. Preheat oven to 220c. Cut zucchini into fry-like pieces. 2. Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk with the milk. Season with salt, pepper, add the crushed garlic, oregano and thyme. Mix well. 3. On a seperate plate, have your breadcrumbs ready. 4. Grease a large baking tray with 1 tbsp of olive oil. 5. Dip the zucchini in the egg, then roll in the breadcrumbs and place on a baking tray. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Turn the fries 2-3 times during this time, drizzling them with the remaining 2 tbsp of olive oil. 6. 06.01.2022 Cucumber, Avocado and Chicken Salad! What you need: For the salad: ... 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, shredded a dozen basil leaves, torn 1 avocado 2 tsp lemon juice 1/2 cucumber, peeled 1/4 cup (250g) walnuts For the chicken: 2 chicken breast fillets (around 150g each) 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp mustard 1 tbsp honey For the sauce: 3 tbsp yogurt 1 tbsp mayo 1 garlic clove, minced What you need to do: 1. Place the iceberg lettuce into a large bowl. Add torn basil leaves and mix. Divide between 2 serving bowls. 2. Season the chicken fillets with salt and rub with olive oil. Heat a dry pan and fry the chicken for 5 minutes on each side. 3. In the meantime, mix the mustard and honey. Grease the top of the fillets with half the sauce, then then and cook for another 1.5 minutes. Repeat on the other side. Once cooked, cool slightly and chop. 4. Cut the avocado flesh into cubes, and drizzle with lemon juice. Peel and slice the cucumber. 5. Prepare the garlic sauce by mixing all the sauce ingredients - season with salt and pepper. 6. Top salads with the chopped chicken, avocado, cucumber and walnuts. Pour over the garlic sauce and serve!

05.01.2022 Cottage Cheese Protein Pancakes What you need: * 1 heaped cup (250g) cottage cheese * 3 eggs ... * 1 tsp vanilla extract * 1 tbsp coconut sugar * 3 heaped tbsp flour What you need to do: 1. Place the cottage cheese into a bowl, add egg yolks (keep whites seperate) and crush everything with a fork. Add in the flour, and mix thoroughly. 2. Whisk the egg whites into a stiff foam and add to the cheese mixture. Gently combine the ingredients. 3. Heat a dry, non-stick pan and fry the pancakes (about 2 tbsp of batter per pancake) in batches, for about 3 minutes, until the bottom is slightly browned. Turn and cook for another 2 minutes. Suggested serving: Greek yoghurt, honey and berries. Serves: 4 | Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 10 mins Per serve: 162kcals | 4F | 18C | 12P #bioactivefitness #ormeaugym #goldcoastfoodie #movewelllivelife

For the salad: 4 handfuls lettuce or rocket mix... 100g smoked salmon, torn 10 mini mozzarella balls, torn 10 strawberries, halved Handful basil leaves For the dressing: 1 tbsp honey 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp honey mustard What you need to do! 1. Divide the lettuce leaves between two plates. Add the torn smoked salmon and mozzarella balls as well as the strawberries and basil leaves. 2. Mix all the dressing ingredients and drizzle over the salads. Season with freshly ground black pepper and serve. 01.01.2022 Sweetcorn Fritters What you need: * 280g sweet corn, drained * Bunch coriander, chopped ... * 1 lemon, zest * 1 cup (120g) buckwheat flour * 3/4 cup (185ml) cold water * 4 tsp coconut oil What you need to do: 1. Place the sweet corn in a large bowl. Add the chopped coriander and lemon zest, season with salt and pepper. 2. Next, add in the flour and water and mix well until smooth. 3. Heat 2 tsp of the coconut oil in a large non-stick pan on high heat. Once the pan is hot, ladle in the mixture. Cook the fritters two batches of 4, or divide the oil accordingly if your pan is not big enough (1/2 tsp of oil per 1 fritter) 4. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. The batter makes 8 medium sized fritters. 5. Serve with a side of avocado and chilli yoghurt (optional) Serves: 8 | Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 15-20 mins Per serve: 97kcals | 3F | 15C | 3P #bioactivefitness #ormeaugym #goldcoastfoodie #movewelllivelife
