25.01.2022 One detail to remember - compostable bags are a step up from "biodegradable". biodegradable and degradable does not mean compostable. The difference? Compostable bags are completely made from food sources and will break down in the environment in a short amount of time. Degradable and biodegradable will break down into smaller pieces can take from 1 year to 200 years to completely disappear. So what are your thoughts? Please click on the link and head to the poll.... My thoughts? It's a win/win for all involved. That's why many councils actually supply them to residents. Council win because It encourages diverting food waste from landfill which is not only great for the environment but saves councils money because it's cheaper to process organics and compost than it is to process landfill. The more people that separate their food from waste the cheaper it becomes for council and they are able to produce a high quality compost. Residents win because they have a hygienic, convenient & SMELL FREE way of getting rid of food scraps! If it didn't work and wasn't financially viable so many other councils would not be encouraging the system. We just want to encourage #orangecitycouncil to look outside of the square and move with the times. If you always do what you've always done, you're going to get what you've always got! It's time for change and really, it's inevitable that the days of plastic are numbered.

25.01.2022 If you put food in your regular waste bin, think about the impact this is having on our environment. Most people think it just breaks down, end of problem. NO When food is put into landfill it causes a greenhouse gas called methane. Methane is 25 times more potent at trapping heat in the atmosphere, than the carbon pollution that comes out of your car exhaust!... ALL food waste should go into your Organics collection bins or into a home compost bin. This is made easier with Biobag compostable bags. Or better still reduce your food waste. Check out the Love food, Hate Waste Website for tips and ideas on how to reduce your food waste.

09.01.2022 Here is an article from 2009 about Lismore council helping residents reduce their red bin waste in a clean & hygienic way - by using an Air bin & biobags. They are among many councils in NSW and Australia that are helping reduce landfill in their region. We hope soon that Orange City Council will also follow in the path of these councils and allow residents to use compostable bags. Many councils have been using them for years with great ongoing success. It's a win/win for residents and councils alike.

01.01.2022 Here is a document Prepared for the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities that was derived from the need to help councils across NSW with their plight to drive food waste away from landfill. Their recommendation is that kitchen caddies and compostable bags are an invaluable tool in reaching a good outcome. http://www.environment.gov.au//8b73aa44-aebc-4d68-b8c9-c84
