24.01.2022 Follow along with our 12 healthy habits challenge for 2021. FEBRUARY’S healthy habit is to drink more water! At least 8 glasses of clean, filtered H2O each day. Here are 3 hacks to hydrate: Bookend each day with water, drinking a big glass when you first wake up and another as you're winding down for the day. Make "spa water" by adding slices of citrus, cucumber or mint to your water. The ingredients infuse the water with a hint of flavour, making it more appealing to dri...nk. Use a water bottle that has measured markings so that you can track how much fluid you're sipping throughout the day in order to reach your daily target! Did you know: Adult women need about 8 cups (around 2L) and adult men need about 10 cups (around 2.5L) of fluid a day. More specifically, 35mL of water is needed per kilo of body weight. Drinking water is important for a whole host of body systems to function properly and improves digestion, detoxification, energy levels, complexion, headaches... The list goes on. So drink up and share the challenge with others! See more

18.01.2022 As we approach the end of a tumultuous year, many people (both practitioners and patients alike), may be feeling the effects of exhaustion. Exhaustion induced by stress is a precursor to the development of burnout syndrome, which is increasingly common, particularly amongst those in helping professions. Some indicators of the syndrome include subjective perceptions of demand-related stress, coupled with emotional exhaustion and declining performance in work-related or self-set tasks. This manifests as fatigue, cynicism, lack of concentration, a negative attitude to work, headaches and an upset stomach. This research looks at Rhodiola to reduce symptoms. Importantly, check in with yourself and make sure you're giving yourself the support and rest you may need.

18.01.2022 Researchers in the field of positive psychology have found that you can genuinely increase your happiness and overall satisfaction with life -- and it doesn’t require a drastic change of circumstances. Rather, what it takes is making an inner shift of perspective and attitude. And that's something anyone can try to do. Incorporating practices from these 5 areas of gratitude, relationships, mindfulness, meaning and health can help generate more joy and satisfaction with simplicity and ease.

16.01.2022 Science has uncovered a new protein directly linked to the development of neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Lewy bodies dementia and multiple system atrophy. Alpha-synucleins are presynaptic neuronal proteins found in neural tissue, making up to 1% of all proteins in the cytosol of brain cells. In Parkinson’s Disease, researchers have found that -synuclein proteins regulate the production of dopamine through an interaction with the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase. This major enzyme is responsible for converting tyrosine to L-DOPA, the main precursor to dopamine. Practitioners can discover more details here. #ScienceSunday

09.01.2022 While "Palmitoylethanolamide" is a mouthful, that didn't stop it being a hot topic on practitioner's lips this year! In fact, our PEA Clinical Applications Chart was our most popular chart this year. This chart summarises clinical trials using PEA in a variety of health conditions and reports the dosages. The flip side updates our current understanding of the action of PEA in the cellular environment. If you haven't got the chart yet, or for a comprehensive video overview of how to use it, head here: https://bit.ly/3nBNaaC

08.01.2022 Many practitioners will have seen patients with the familiar complaint, "ever since that major milestone, things have not been the same." 2020 has been one such major milestone and at the centre of many mental health presentations -- whether anxiety, depression or grief -- there's an underlying commonality: trauma. The impact of trauma is intricate and individual, but nutritional strategies can make substantial impact on the road to recovery. Practitioners can revisit one of our most popular webinars to brush up on the tools to help patients triumph. Available to members of our Education Centre.

06.01.2022 Ageing doesn't automatically equate to a loss in mental abilities or a decline in mental health. There's a lot that you can do to keep your mind healthy and support ageing. A nutritious diet high in fruits and veggies that provide alkalising minerals can help maintain the balance of your body's internal environment -- necessary to support brain health. Regular physical activity and mental exercises can also help keep your mind and wellbeing humming along later in life.
