25.01.2022 Super exciting to see local installation of our modular urban food product - Foodcube being undertaken in Tuvalu with members of the Kapule and Agricultural Team. Made in Australia from recycled soft plastic, this innovation in urban agriculture addresses climate change, sea level rise because they are sealed and bottom watering. Rainfall is captured for efficient reuse for weeks meaning that labour intensive daily watering is not required and resources are not lost to the gr...ound. Results to date have been very encouraging and the ease of installation enables rapid deployment in the hot, humid conditions. Because the system is soil based, compost can be made from local materials and nutrients are sustainably used in a closed loop system. Supported by Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and in partnership with Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and Live and Learn Environmental Education.

25.01.2022 Nice article discussing how our urban farming systems are helping home food growing at a time when people have restricted movement, and happy that our farming systems are able to help. There are many benefits - reduced food bills, exercise, reducing waste by creating compost and then food, mental health, biodiversity in our cities - the list goes on. #resilience #connectedcommunities #circulareconomy #natureinourcities https://www.architectureanddesign.com.au//increasing-deman

24.01.2022 Family gardening has never been easier with the modular #Foodcube system. Self watering and connectable means the Foodcube does the hard work watering and aerating the roots day and night. This gives more time to enjoy the produce, eat healthy and stay safe. This setup is saving trips to the supermarket and money.... Made from 80% recycled plastic in Melbourne, the Foodcube can be delivered contactless to the premises. Weighing only 27kg empty, its an easy 2 person lift. Make gardening easy! Available for contactless delivery. $400+delivery in Melbourne. See our Stockist page for locations. 23.01.2022 Great to see this flourishing urban farm at Glen Junor in Gisborne today and proud to have our wicking beds in use in the farm. We dropped by today to see the farm and meet owners Trent and Chrissy McCamley and the garden was in full swing. Looking forward to seeing the whole farm come to life in 2021 #urbanfarming #foodsecurity #circulareconomy

20.01.2022 Wonderful news! Work has commenced on the Community Farm at the Cape, an eco-housing community along the South Gippsland Coast. We are extremely proud that the design will incorporate our water efficient Foodcube wicking beds. Many residents, including one of Biofilta's Directors Brendan Condon, already use Foodcubes to grow their own food and reuse water. When complete, Foodcubes at the Community Farm will contribute to better health and nutrition, incidental exercise, more... social contact, reduced food bills, increased urban greening and the joy of sharing food with friends to name just a few. You can read more about this wonderful project on The Cape website and the Diggers Club website: https://www.liveatthecape.com.au/capenews https://www.diggers.com.au//a/sustainable/rnla21-the-cape/

19.01.2022 Meet Nina Ceddia, she manages Kensington Stockyard Food Garden. We popped down to chat to her about local food growing, the history of Newmarket Sales Yard and her vision for the space. We were blown away by her generosity, enthusiasm and her breadth of knowledge.... Cities have all the ingredients to create abundant urban farms - organic streams to create compost, rainwater runoff, and lots of space if we take the time to look. Kensington Stockyard Food Garden is an inspirational project that Biofilta is proud to support with our water efficient, urban farming system. Anyone looking to learn about gardening, Melbourne's history or if you just want to get involved in an amazing community project, look no further. Big shout out to the City of Melbourne, Moving Feast Vic and everyone else who is collaborating on this project. We can't wait to check in on this garden and see it's progress. With any luck Kensington Stockyard will continue to grow expand and promote locally grown food!

18.01.2022 Fantastic to see local food being grown in the Aussie made Foodcube system in Funafala as part of the Austalian Aid funded Tuvalu Food Futures project. Biofilta are a key project partner supplying the raised, modular wicking beds ( Foodcubes ) that help protect the compost from sea water intrusion in high tides where traditional food cannot be grown.

16.01.2022 Our friends at The Sustainable Landscape Company have designed and built this beautiful and productive community farm for Glen Junor at Gisborne, Victoria. The farm features Melbourne designed and manufactured Biofilta wicking beds as the centrepiece of food production. This is a really exciting project and we hope to see efficient urban farms built on new estates and retrofitted into existing communities for all the benefits they bring. ... 15.01.2022 Congratulations to Athol Road Primary School in Springvale generating fresh produce for food charities in today’s Herald Sun The school is demonstrating circular economy principles, composting, growing seedlings and fresh produce, beekeeping and poultry, and distributing food to the school community and to food charity OzHarvest. Biofilta were proud to supply around 60 Foodcube advanced wicking beds to Athol Road Primary. Most schools have access to organics and rainwater... runoff and have the potential to host a space and water efficient productive urban farm like this one. Cities have all the ingredients to grow large amounts of food within city limits - surplus organics and rainwater runoff, and under-utilised spaces. Biofilta’s mission is to help our communities set up farms like these to improve nutrition and food security in our communities. Great work Athol Primary for showing what is possible See more

15.01.2022 Join us at Our Holy Redeemer in Surrey Hills to see the beautiful garden that has sprung to life! Foodcube pop-up farms in schools provide a huge range of benefits to students' mental, physical and social wellbeing. The skills kids learn while tending to their farms can translate into healthy food and kitchen skills later in life.

15.01.2022 Biofilta is very proud to receive our Australian Made certificate this week and will be displaying the logo for purchasers to be confident about the product origins. Foodcube has always been made in Melbourne, but the question often arises as to the origin of manufacture. So, we decided to make it official and we found the team at Australian Made sure are thorough in ensuring that stuff is made where you say it is.

13.01.2022 Kensington Stockyard community garden have harvested over 300kg of fresh produce since July 2020 from only 28 Foodcubes. That's 10kg from each Foodcube in 4 months. Per annum, Kensington are on track to harvest 30kg per m2 which is higher than our recommended average of 25kg per Foodcube. Great going Kensington Stockyard!

11.01.2022 While the world grappled with a pandemic and food shortages, one tiny nation took action and worked to increase food security in the Tuvalu nation in November 2020. Biofilta is working with Live & Learn Environmental Education with funding from Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to deliver outcomes of the Tuvalu Food Futures Phase 2 project. Delivery is also in partnership with the Tuvalu Ministry of Agriculture and the local Kaupule to distribute and set up s...elf watering Aussie made Foodcube systems to grow food at the community and household levels. The team selected 35 households to receive 2 Foodcubes each which can grow 50kg of fresh food per annum to help increase household food security. Compost courses and nutrition surveys also supported the physical installation process. Compost making is now a national activity in Tuvalu due to it's importance in sustainable living. Check out some of the setup and growing outcomes. Happy New Year to everyone.

10.01.2022 Here are before and after photos taken 7 weeks apart from one of our urban farmers Hugh in Korumburra with his 5 foodcube farm in action. He planted his farm 7 weeks ago and is already harvesting. Hugh is 93 years old and the raised beds allow him to garden without bending his back, great for exercise and keeping active. This farm will allow Hugh to grow around 25 kilos of produce per sq meter, or 125 kgs of fresh produce per annum, great for reducing food bills and improving nutrition. Hugh has planted broccoli, carrots, beans, peas, bok choi and other varieties and we look forward to seeing lots of food coming from the farm in coming months

10.01.2022 What was once a kids playground area is now being transformed into an urban farm. It's a work in progress. Watch the space come alive with our Foodcube wicking beds clad with FormBoss Steel Garden Edging Redcor panels that give a rustic charm to the garden. Growing herbs and veggies at home saves money and is great for mental health.... This home farm also includes tree height extenders for citrus trees. Self watering, the wicking beds provide the plants exactly the right amount of water and saves hours with a hose. Growing media used is the specialised wicking mix developed with Bio Gro. Made in Melbourne from recycled plastic, the Foodcube ticks the sustainability box. Plants were sourced from Garden World in Braeside. We'll check in regularly to see how the garden progresses. #Foodcube #growyourfood #raisedbeds #raisedgardenbeds #urbanag #urbanagriculture #wickingbed

10.01.2022 We love community gardens. We love transforming under-utilised urban spaces into productive food growing areas. The folks at St John's Riverside Community Garden do as well.... They've transformed this old tennis court into a vibrant space that the community uses to grow food. Recently they've added another 12 Foodcubes, doubling the size of the tennis court garden. So good to see.

09.01.2022 Nice to see Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service in central north NSW teaming with others and using our Foodcube wicking beds to build a water efficient, climate adapted vegetable farm to generate lots of arms length fresh food for a community that needs it. This is clever climate adaptation with lots of benefits for communities - health, exercise, social contact, reduced food bills, the list goes on. Great to see our Melbourne designed and manufactured food cube wicking beds are part of this system, and that the farm has continued to function despite 48 degree days. #localfood #betternutrition #circulareconomy #foodsecurity#waterefficiency https://www.facebook.com/194764094549/posts/10158676511379550/?d=n

The farm has been designed and is being built by The Sustainable Landscape Company in consultation with residents of the Cape community. When complete, The Community Farm will include an abundance of Biofilta water efficient Foodcube wicking beds and other growing systems; a market garden; a farmhouse with kitchen, undercove...r area and pizza oven; a multi-use building for The Cape community; a community nursery; fruit trees; bee hives; composting areas; water recycling facilities; an area for The Cape maintenance team and plenty of room for sitting, relaxing and socialising.
