16.01.2022 Getting ready to take a brew up to The Pocket Sanctuary this afternoon. It's important to check every brew under the microscope to make sure it has stayed aerobic and that the key microorganisms of the 'soil food web' are present in sufficient numbers and sufficient diversity. These images show microscopic soil fungi and a bacterial feeding nematode.

15.01.2022 Applied compost tea along with humic acid, fish hydrolysate and kelp to fruit trees at The Pocket Sanctuary today. We are experimenting to see if the tea can prevent leaf curl on a number of stone fruit trees that suffered from the fungal disease last year.

11.01.2022 What a beautiful cover crop! If you want to learn more about the importance of diverse cover crops and incredible impacts of building soil ecology, I highly recommend watching this lecture by Australia’s Dr Christine Jones: https://youtu.be/NqV1b4ps-sE

10.01.2022 Was great to be back at Jauma yesterday. James’ energy for holistic organic farming is infectious. Exciting times with the cherry trees about to bloom and new vineyard soon to be planted. Always such a pleasure!

03.01.2022 Compost tea can prevent and treat some fungal diseases. See this mulberry tree before and after (August 1st and today). After the initial application the tree dropped the diseased leaves and is growing back healthy. Copper sprays are often used to treat fungal disease however they also kill beneficial fungi. Rather, compost tea is a probiotic and helps build the plants immunity. The beneficial microorganisms in the tea help outcompete the pathogenic fungi.

01.01.2022 Applying compost tea and fish hydrolysate at Sven Vale vineyard in Tanunda. We started last year on an area of the vineyard with an ongoing root-feeding nematode problem. We applied mycorrhizal fungi spores and compost tea brews along with fish hydrolysate, kelp and humic acid.
