25.01.2022 Keeping the weeds under control on a very cold Wistow day .

25.01.2022 It's that time of year again when we start to prep the beds, ready for our Autumn/Winter crops! Over the Summer period we sowed Millet in the ground as a cover crop & green manure. This helps suppress the weeds that would normally grow this time of year but also to put some organic matter in the ground that was used up from the previous season and to stop the erosion of the soil, with just bare ground waiting for its next crop! It is important this time of year as it's quite dry to get some moisture in the soil first before doing any ground work as it will stop the soil structure from being damaged, during this process. Then we came along with the disc plough to help break down the stubble that was left behind after the mowing of the crop. This also helps to get the organic matter deep into the soil below.

25.01.2022 Spring time is upon us! Just a little update from the farm and how we are progressing with this beautiful weather!

25.01.2022 Summer time FLOWER time!! Check the photo description*

22.01.2022 Making the most of what little rainfall we received.

21.01.2022 This week is about preparing the Orchard for Winter and weed control. Oh.. and of course Max the farm dog. Fruiting season has finished, so the nets are off, the fun has begun! The boys started field trimming and mowing the orchard at the begining of the week. Getting right up close to the trees so we can mulch them with our pasture straw in the weeks ahead. This will help with the competition with the weeds but also keep in moisture in, down the track through the warmer mont...hs. In a few weeks, pruning will begin once the leaves have fallen. This indicates sap flow has ceased. Garlic planting has finished, and we are on deck with the weeding. The steam weeder is out in the truffle area, keeping the trees root zone free of weeds so the Mycelium has room to grow underneath the soil. The girls have been cleaning up the Autumn/Winter crops, getting rid of those tiny cape weed seedlings that have germinated after the last rain! It's starting to feel a lot like Winter...brrrrrr

See you in the new year! Ohh and check out that potato crop!

16.01.2022 Last day of winter

14.01.2022 Exciting times ahead, this week we thinned out the orchards ready for netting next week. Thinning helps to create a fuller, taster fruit more energy can be placed into the size and flavour rather then amount received. This also gives us a chance to remove any un wanted fruit that may have been damaged in the flowering stage. Quality over quanity right!

10.01.2022 Some of the beautiful pumpkins we have growing this season.

09.01.2022 When consumers pay a premium Organic food for quality and good stewardship, farmers can be paid a fair price for their work, which in turn has a multiplier effect on rural communities. This is also sustainable in the long run for our planet!

08.01.2022 Welcome to summer! We are introducing a lot of colour this season! Watch this space :)
