We are using lots of toys - three RED cameras, probe and super macro lenses plus a number of motion control rigs to film this amazing event in innovative ways. The golden brown dots are individual zooxanthellae algal cells being expelled from the coral polyp through the mouth. This doesn’t mean the coral polyp is dead just stressed. If the stresses decrease the zooxanthellae can recolonise the coral polyp. 02.01.2022 Here we go again - first night for the 2020 spawning. Since 1989 I’ve only missed two spawns and have filmed it in hi-8, betacam, dvcam, digibeta, DVC pro25, DVC pro50, hdcam, varicam, a7s, red 4K, 6K and 3D. Now we are shooting 8K super low compression to keep Netflix happy.
