25.01.2022 Hard at work here at Susurrus Studio! I’ve tried and tried to buy straps for my bags, because making them is a really really time consuming process. But there are two kinds on the market cheap and nasty, and you guessed it, super expensive. Even when buying in bulk I’d have to add around $45 per strap to buy quality straps. Because making them is a really really time consuming process (did I say?). And quality materials cost money. So, here we are, still making our own. And I’ve given up trying to buy decent straps and instead embrace making them. In addition to these fabric straps, that are for my small zip up tote bags, I’m now making cork straps for my satchels. And they match perfectly. Who needs to buy straps? Not me!
25.01.2022 I seem to have a thing for velvet and tassles this year. Maybe it’s the ultra-comforting silken finish of the velvet. That, and the beautiful subtle sheen add a super lux feel to the new monsoon forest designs that I’m finding so hard to resist, I think my bedroom is in for a makeover! This design: Peachy Queen rose crowned fruit dove Velvet front, deep blue linen-look back, red tassles Also comes with a gorgeous red back in 45cm & 60cm.... Curiously, I’m also finding puppy fluff doesn’t stick to the velvet and that can only be a good thing!
25.01.2022 Monday making session. Just one or two threads to get me through the day!

We turned one last week! Hard to believe. Anyway, I’m in there today, so come and say hello! The Local Goodies in this pic by Marita Albers, Chiggy, Artwear by Chiggy and Studio Elevenlee.
20.01.2022 Planning a trip out and about this weekend? Need a new bag? I’m loving the red cork base and strap (which is hiding but does exist!) with this velvet Gouldian finch fabric. Inside is full of green leaves on a purple background, with a further variation inside the interior zip pocket. Bag stands around 22cm tall, antique brass finish frame 25cm wide, medium length strap. Splash! Gouldian finch Design and making by Boo at Susurrus Studio, Darwin River, NT, Australia. (Where’s that? Somewhere far north, barely inhabited and hot, all year round.)
18.01.2022 Today is a little celebration of the wedge-tailed eagle, because, why not? Yarak, from the Territory Wildlife Park and ‘Circling red dust’ Design and making by Boo.
17.01.2022 Have you seen the gallery of new designs on our website? I've been super busy out here in Susurrus Studio at Darwin River in semi-self-imposed isolation and have got some new birds to introduce you to and some other goodies too! http://bippidiiboppidii.com/2020-designs/
17.01.2022 Want to talk fabric, wallpaper, cushions, lampshades, bags? I’ll be in the shop today and tomorrow. Come and say hello if you’re in Darwin even if you only want to talk about the weather! The Local 6/36 Parap Place... Parap Village Shops, Parap NT 0820 @thelocalnt In this photo I’m showing you ‘Calytrix Calyx’ (Turkey bush) and ‘Lily Loper’ (Jacana) cushions. Until recently, I sewed all the cushions myself. I’m pretty excited to announce that my son is now doing most of the cushion making, from start to finish. Now I’ve got more time to do allll the other things! See more
12.01.2022 Way to brighten up your dinner table! I’ve got an eclectic collection of double-sided placemats at The Local. Torresian Imperial Pigeon on the front and native nutmeg on the back Or maybe you’re after a bittern and a brolga? We’re open at The Local during Parap Market hours so after (or before, but please not during!) your laksa this morning, why not pop in and check out the range or something else entirely! Have a great weekend ... All designs by Boo
11.01.2022 These super satchels are my biggest bag yet and I've done my first delivery from Susurrus Studio to The Local this week. They're velvet (super lush) with beautiful cork bases and straps. Lined inside, as ever, with funky coordinates, they come equipped with an interior pocket. The frames are 25cm wide and the bags stand at around 22cm tall, with a base of 11 x 23 cm. So those brass balls? Yep, they're big. Easy to handle and oh so very fun. More coming soon!
11.01.2022 In terms of inspiration, I started 2020 firmly in the monsoon forest. I dipped past the wetlands to spot a black bittern playing unlikely games with a black catfish then headed out in the woodlands. This is the first of my new Top End Woodlands designs. There’s another one hiding back here somewhere, that I’ll show you soon, and some more banked up in my head, dying to get out. Cycad Stand Boo, 2020 Top End Woodlands.
10.01.2022 Ahhhh Sunday I hope you’re having a lovely time, whatever you are doing. I think it might be time to put my feet up and choose a book for the afternoon.
08.01.2022 This is where the bippidii boppidii in Boo comes from in the early days of my business I did cute and quirky stuff kids would love, like these fun hair elastics but my business has grown up and so has my style. So, while I still have fun making some of this cute business (keep an eye out for a limited release of the old bippidii boppidii favourite ears before Christmas!) it’s not my core business anymore. So you’re going to see some branding changes over the coming months, that might even see me slowly and gently put my ‘old’ name to bed. I’m a bit nervous about this, but the transition isn’t so major and it will be so easier to spell my email address so I just have to put my big girl pants on and do it. Stay tuned.
07.01.2022 Time for a bit of green tree frog action. This design is called Puddle Party. Because frogs love to sing in the rain. Without umbrellas. Velvet and cork satchel, antique brass finish frame 25cm wide, medium length strap, interior zip pocket. Sunglasses for scale, not for sale! This is my newest style of bag, and I’m a bit in love with it. Can’t wait to make some more! Puddle Party Green Tree Frog 2019 Wetlands... Design and making by Boo at Susurrus Studio, Darwin River, NT, Australia. (Way out bush in other words.) See more
05.01.2022 Meet the striated pardalote. Some of you might know this little bird as a peep-wren. The name pardalote is based on a Greek word for ‘spotted’. I can only guess why they are called peep-wrens. Maybe it has something to do with them popping their heads out of the ground (they drill deep tunnels into the earth in which to nest). Anyone else? Pardalotes of varying species are found across much of Australia. They feed up high in trees, despite sleeping underground. This quirky little design by Boo is called ‘I beg your pardalote’.
05.01.2022 Many years ago, I used to lino print and screen print my fabrics by hand in a big old shearing shed on my family farm on Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. When I moved to the NT, I had nowhere to print too hot, too wet, not enough ventilation everywhere was wrong. Ink drying in the screens was the biggest problem. Recently my son did an art project and decided to screen print a hosepipe style character he had drawn. Enter excited Mum, complete with a shed full of dusty screens and a carousel for four colour prints. Most of the screens need fresh mesh. My son had a lot of fun with the air compressed staple gun, as you can see, and in fact, with the whole project. Actually, we both had a lot of fun and we think we’ve found the perfect spot to do a spot of screen printing together in future. Exciting. Watch this space.
03.01.2022 A client sent me this beautiful photo of her coveted spinifex chair in its new home. She was even inspired to paint the wall. <3 I think I could have sold this particular chair ten times over and would have happily kept it myself! It is super comfortable and beautifully upholstered by the talented Sean Roche at Gotcha Covered Upholstery in Blackwood SA. We’ll have some more collaborations coming up soon, Darwin folks! Fabric design by Boo, fabulous base & styling + photo c...ourtesy of a wonderful customer In the meantime, I’d love to see any nooks in your spaces with a touch of bipbopboo in them if you’d care to share!
01.01.2022 There are some exciting new prints at The Local - along with some lovely new lampshades and even a couple of sumptuous tassled velvet cushions nestled in there too... more shades coming soon, along with director's chair covers and some seriously sassy satchels... so stay tuned!
