25.01.2022 Golden hour on the farm. Somehow this old fella survived when all his mates got cleared to make way for cattle not so long ago. Many of the bare dusty cow paddocks on the property have now returned to forests, because when we moved here in the mid 90s we planted thousands of eucalyptus trees. As a result the bird life here is abundant. 16.01.2022 Mud mud glorious mud! When building the Dome we adopted a traditional method of mixing the render, which was a combination of clay, mud and chopped up straw as binder. Originally we were putting it all into a cement mixer and blending it that way. Then one day by pure chance a young French man came to the farm to look at a car that we had for sale. Turned out he had spent several years working in straw bale construction, and suggested we use a more traditional method of m...ixing it all up with your feet! This allowed us to mix up much larger batches and exfoliate our feet at the same time! In order to achieve a smooth conical roof, owner builder Andrew Linford decided to cut many individual tin shingles, layering them upon each other like tiles. 08.01.2022 How good are greens fresh from the garden? The wicked bed is doing a brilliant job of retaining the moisture during these hot hot days. We collect all of our own water from the sky and the ground (as do most households in our local area), so we are quite precious on how it is used. Using wicking beds mean we have to water the garden about once a week as opposed to every day! Huge water savings. Looking forward to building some more in the near future!
