24.01.2022 One very effective product which deters Pigeons, Indian Mynas, Starlings and other birds from roosting, is bird spikes. Whether your problem is domestic or commercial, birds spikes are a simple and humane bird control. We have two different kinds available - stainless steel and polycarbonate. You can see a photo below this post of them side by side, with the poly spikes on the left. ... While they are both pretty hard to see, the polycarbonate spikes are made of transparent material which makes them unobtrusive but at no cost to durability as they are also flexible as well as being UV treated. If you have been looking for a pretty inexpensive permanent solution to humanely keeping birds from landing, roosting and nesting, then you will be pleased to note that the poly spikes are non-conductive and so can be attached close to (and even on) TV aerials, preventing pesky birds from landing and messing up the area. They can be easily cut to size, glued in place and can be secured with cable ties to aerials. For further information do visit our website http://www.birdgard.com.au/pest-control/bird-spikes

23.01.2022 Continuing on from a recent post, one of the great things about the Roof Off is that, as well as being a similar unit to our popular Ultrasonic Possum Deterrent, it has another handy option: when you have removed all of the possums from your roof or ceiling, you can use it as an intruder alarm. By setting the unit to 'Motion Sensor' setting, the strobe will turn on when someone moves past it. Alternatively, you can quite easily disable the strobe, and use the unit as a regu...lar Possum Deterrent, outside, without the light flashing. Of course, if you don't need the strobe at all, then just choose the Ultrasonic Possum Deterrent. They are highly effective in the majority of cases, and enable you to keep your prize bushes, plants and trees safe from the hungry nibbling of these cute but voracious little creatures.

22.01.2022 TALKING OF SNAKES: In an ABC news article recently, Rick Longmore, Canberra herpetologist said of Aussie's venomous snakes: "They're looking for food and they're looking for partners, so they're moving around a lot. ... The eastern brown snake has the second most toxic venom of any snake yet tested. When you combine that with its speed and its aggressiveness, you've got a pretty tough customer." While the article refers to ACT, snakes are making themselves known right acros...s Australia at the moment. If you know there are snakes around your property, it's advisable to keep pets either inside or on a lead. Make sure all long grass is mowed regularly. Keep chook pens and other areas clean, as rubbish can attract rodents and the snakes eat rats and mice. Water will draw snakes to your property, so don't leave water out in the open (not to mention it's a breeding ground for mosquito larvae). If you see a snake, stand still immediately. Don't wave your arms in the air as the snake may take that as an aggressive action. Back slowly away. We've found that in many cases, a top of the range Solar Snake Repeller (and ours is the latest version), is highly effective in keeping your yard snake free. More than one will create an interlinking web of sound that snakes take for predators and will cause them to stay away. Below are a couple of reviews from satisfied customers. And you can read more on our website. If you'd like to find out whether our Solar powered Snake Repellers would be effective for your situation, please don't hesitate to give us a call. http://www.abc.net.au//snake-sightings-mark-the-be/5933270

16.01.2022 Lately, we've had a few enquiries about Ibis birds who are making pests of themselves. They are becoming very common across Australia, are not scared of humans, and are frequenting anywhere they can scrounge food. They can be found 'dining' at outdoor restaurants and cafes, as well as rubbish tips. As well as the obvious health concerns of these birds around eateries, they also cause a real hazard at airports. As they seek out small insects and ambhibians, which are abu...ndant in the mown grass surrounding airports, Ibis can get in the way of aircraft as they take off and land. For larger operations such as airports, we have found the Bird Gard Laser gun has been very effective at specifically targeting and forcing Ibis away from the airport grounds. For smaller places such as restaurants, sidewalk cafes and back yards, a different approach works best - being the Bird Gard Eagle Kite. Flying high on line off a sturdy pole, this kite looks so lifelike that Ibis and other birds fear this predator raptor, and they avoid the area. For further information, visit www.birdgard.com.au and type "Ibis" in the search bar where it says "Search for your pest".

16.01.2022 Did you know that Bird Gard's Holographic Tape has 3 unique properties to keep unwanted birds away: 1. It is a visual deterrent: as light is reflected from its surface and perceived in three dimensional and highly chromatic pattern. Both are seen as a menace by birds, 2. It creates a hostile environment: fluttering in the slightest breeze, the loud metallic sound 'rattles' and is unsettling to birds, and... 3. It can be a physical barrier: when applied in a linear fashion along ledges, fences etc, it cuts off birds' 'landing strips'. Such a simple deterrent, yet so effective against various bird species.

16.01.2022 Top pests at the moment, which are leading people to find solutions via our website include Pigeons, Wax-Eyes, Possums and Cockatoos. We've talked about Pigeons and Possums recently, so let's take a closer look at Wax-Eyes aka Silver-Eyes (Zosterops lateralis). They are distributed around the East and South coasts of Australia, with the migratory species originating in Tasmania. In April, these relatively small birds (no more than 10 grams and 13 cms long) fly many kilomet...res from Tasmania, across the Bass Straits and into New South Wales and some even up to north Queensland. Both species (migratory and local) look similar, although, while the Tasmanian birds are slightly larger, with darker flanks, they are most easily distinguished by having white chests, while local Australian Silver-Eyes have a yellow 'hood' of feathers right around their heads and throats. Because they flock during times when food is scarce, and also like to eat soft, ripe fruit, they can be regarded as a pest to Vineyards. 12.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE STARLINGS? They're good looking birds with glossy black feathers that have a green and purple sheen and white tips on the body feathers. This is a species introduced from Europe from 1850-1870. While confined to woodlands, over in Australia it has become much more widespread. Not only that, but its competitive - well, aggressive - behaviour when nesting, has ensured that our Australian native species have often lost breeding sites that used to be exclusively th...eirs. Starlings aren't that fussy when it comes to nesting sites either. They are happy to build their nests in any hollow, roof nook, or confined space including car engine compartments and machinery. While you may have one cute-looking nest this year, because starlings return to the same breeding location, you may find that within a few short years you have a population explosion on your hands. This brings its own problem including bird mites, potential disease from their guano, and many nests can present a fire hazard. If you already have a large number of Starlings on your property, you will already be aware of their flocking behaviour, which is relatively silent. However, once back at their nesting sites, their sound can be deafening! If you are anxious that the Starlings on your property are reaching unacceptable numbers or causing a health hazard, please call us, as we have several devices that have been demonstrated to be effective. One device tailor made for Starlings is the Starling Repeller which plays an unpredictable series of Starling distress calls at random, intermittently causing the birds to become fearful and confused - and the Starlings leave! If you would like more information on this, or related devices, please visit: http://www.birdgard.com.au/pest-control/starling-repeller

10.01.2022 Our most in demand devices today have been the Ultrasonic Possum Deterrent and the Roof Off. Both work on possums, which is an indication of how rife those little creatures are! The Roof Off is similar to the Ultrasonic Possum Deterrent, except it also has a strobe light. This makes the Roof Off ideal in dark and cramped spaces (like roofs) because the strobe light keeps flashing and adds an extra dimension of disturbance to the possums. It also assists the ultrasonics which cannot travel through solid objects, like roof struts. So if you want a regular possum deterrent, or one for your roof, inside shed or garage, then call us and we can help you choose the right one for your needs.

04.01.2022 Do you open your pantry to find moths fluttering out at you? And don’t you hate it when you open a packet of flour or seeds, or other pantry items to find it’s infested with moth larvae and moth-webs? It’s often a concern when we want to remove these, but don’t want to use chemicals so close to our foodstuff. The great news is that you can use a safe effective little unit in your pantry that is silent and unobtrusive. Our MR-50 Electronic Moth Repeller emits a quiet ultra...sonic frequency that targets moths. It can protect your food and also clothes and is effective against most moths. The ultrasonics the unit emits is similar to bats and leaves the moths unable to detect their major predator, moths, and so they will leave the area for an environment that they sense is safer. Quick and easy to install; just pop in a better, place facing the main storage area you wish to protect and the little unit does the rest! You will have moth free worries for years and all you will have to do is change the battery. For more information, visit: http://www.birdgard.com.au/pest-co/electronic-moth-repeller
