24.01.2022 Greetings birders. It's now less than 5 months to the departure date for Sulawesi & Halmahera and less than 7 months to departure to North Peru. Both these tours need another 2 people to be able to run. Once confirmed, there is still room for a couple more. See website for full details or email me on [email protected] or just phone 0414041207.

23.01.2022 It is now 21st March and I need to write something about the effect of Coronavirus on Birders Rest's travel plans. Tentatively I have a tour reserved to Sulawesi in June and one to North Peru in August. Neither of these has been cancelled but they will not run until it becomes safe to travel again. Both have room for more people and I encourage those interested to let me know so that you can be updated as news unfolds.

13.01.2022 Taking advantage of the freedom to travel far in Queensland, Karen and I drove to the Outback of the far south-west beyond Thargomindah. We went in her RAV and were away 10 days. Great birding and great wine! 130 species. Roads further west were closed because of rain further north and river levels were high. Photos show an Echidna, male White-browed Wood Swallow, Eastern Grey Kangaroos on the road, male Pied Honeyeater, Australian Bustard, male Crimson Chat, Budgerigars, pair of White-browed Wood Swallows, typical outback scenery & a Brolga.

09.01.2022 I wrote the following on my other page - 'Birding North Peru': My Facebook followers will probably have worked out that I now have 2 Pages - this one has been around for a while but was not used in 2019 as that was when Carol died and I did no tours. The other page is 'Birders Rest' which covers all my tours abroad including Peru so that is the one I will be using more. There is a tour to North Peru in August - September 2020 and full details are on the website. I really need 2 more people to make it worthwhile running this tour. Check it out, it's a wonderful place! Following on from that, the latest news is that both Sulawesi and North Peru will definitely be running but with just one or two people. So there is plenty of space, the more people the cheaper it will be but I might stop at 6.

02.01.2022 During the Covid19 crisis, all my plans for tours outside Australia are on hold until travel to my planned destinations becomes possible again. I am fortunate that although most Australian state borders are closed, Queensland has so far got off lightly with Covid restrictions and we are able to travel freely throughout the state. This has provided some opportunity for trips to less visited and remote places. I will be posting some notes and photos of a recent Outback trip shortly.
