23.01.2022 Sadly the emaciated young Osprey did not make it, I did fluid therapy all night but he passed between 3am and 6 in the morning. Poor Darlin fought hard but his organs were shutting down.
22.01.2022 Recently a member of the public called about a little Nankeen kestrel that fledged but can't fly yet. So I had a chat with the lovely fellow and asked if he would be keen to put up a box as high as possible as the parents were there desperately dive bombing him to protect their young. In my experience this is usually successful as the bubs are much better off being raised by the parents. In this case the parents are still taking care of their young. We as rehabilitators have a responsibility to the birds we care for. If you can get them home why wouldn't you !!
20.01.2022 Bit of Brown falcon cuteness ... We are now 4 weeks old and looking pretty cool with feathers growing and colours changing. We are running around and starting to explore. Jet the bub at the back was a little weary of the big scary phone.
19.01.2022 Adorable young Black face cuckoo shrikes, their nest came down yesterday with the wind. We will try and make a makeshift nest and get them home asap. The Tawny frogmouth was found in the same area and as you can see has a dialated pupil, she needed fluids and pain relief and will need a check with the vet.
15.01.2022 Any one travelling from Cloncurry to Townsville, need transport for this bub Black kite please share, if you can or know someone call on 0407378997. Thanks.
14.01.2022 More casualties today, two little Nankeen kestrels just fledged one has hit the ground hard and has bruising on his belly the other is ok but was almost run over by a forklift and can't go back to the busy work shed. The Laughing kookaburra found by the road but I can't find an injury so hopefully just needs a couple of days to rest up.
13.01.2022 Great information on returning young raptors to their parents...
13.01.2022 A whistling kite released after a short stay, she was underweight and needed a little r and r. It's always nice to see them back where they belong.
13.01.2022 And then there were 3. Black kite bubs, unfortunately no nest was found so I will raise these little Tucker's and set them free when they are old enough.
10.01.2022 What a great way to spend a day for wildlife.
09.01.2022 Just wanted to share this for educational purposes... This is a Peregrine Falcon that has come into care with a registered raptor carer down south. The bird has clearly been in a metal cage, with damage to the cere (above the beak) and to the tail and wing feathers. This poor bird will now need to be in care till it's next moult and when the injuries have healed. Raptors require different and specific needs to stay healthy and fit. It's so sad to see what this majestic bird has gone through .... literally torture in the care of uneducated people. If you find a bird of prey that is injured or orphaned, the best thing to do is get it to the right place, so it can be rehabilitated with the birds specific needs in mind.
03.01.2022 Sadly the little kite has not survived, thank you to everyone for sharing.
02.01.2022 We have a winner... Thank you all for participating in this raffle, the birds and I truly appreciate every dollar to help with food, vet bills, transport, rescues and housing. Big shout out to Laura Castell Art, thank you for your beautiful art work of Poseidon, and all the work you put in for the birds.
