22.01.2022 Have you checked out the latest DIY blog post on the birdonthehill website? I lay out a step by step process on how to achieve a shabby, chippy look using 2 layered colours of milk paint. This little snippet shows you my favourite part - watching the paint crackle ad it dries and then revealing the layer underneath. Find the blog at www.birdonthehill.com.au

21.01.2022 Happy Saturday everyone The weather this long weekend is shaping up to be gorgeous! I took a few minutes to have coffee on the fornt verandah this morning - loving my spring view with the Banksia roses in full bloom. Hope you all get to do something creative this weekend. xxx

18.01.2022 Our brand new finish product launches this evening! Meet the first newbie in an upcoming line up of new prep & finish products - Vintage Bird Liquid Wax Jelly. I’ve been using this for weeks and it’s already an ‘essential’ in my workshop. Here’s just a few things we love about our Wax Jelly... ... Dries to a subtle, nearly matt finish giving your furniture a traditional, vintage look Easy and quick to apply - no vigorous rubbing like traditional waxes - it is soft enough to glide on using a lint free cloth. Seals porous finishes like chalk and milk paint perfectly and cures to a tough finish. Can also be used over Vintage Bird Furniture Paint. Only needs a gentle buff when dry, saving time and energy. Can be used over dark and light colours as it dries completely clear. You can find it now in our online store https://birdonthehill.com.au//vintage-bird-liquid-wax-jelly

15.01.2022 Over in our DIY Challenge group we are about to kick off a new challenge to reinvigorate an outdoor space for spring. Maybe you have some old timber outdoor furniture that needs a make over, or some pot and urns that need some TLC. I just love the idea of this potting station and outdoor storage area I found on Pinterest. It’s gorgeous! What’s the idea behind our DIY Challenge group?... It’s to be inspired by each other’s projects, try new techniques and challenge ourselves to start (and hopefully, finish!) something that you have been meaning to get to. If you’re not already a member of the DIY group, and you would like to join in, you can join by clicking on the DIY Challenge Group tab here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/199131291342956 Picture courtesy of Pinterest.

04.01.2022 The Lilac is in full bloom! It adds to my hay fever, but I can’t resist having a vase full inside.

04.01.2022 Don’t let the thought of having to mix milk paint put you off trying this beautiful medium. It really is as simple as making a cup-a-soup or mixing a hot chocolate. You’re aiming for the consistency of thin custard. Don’t forget - the paint thickens as it stands, so if it looks a little thin to begin with, just wait 5 minutes and then stir to check. My top 2 tips... Use hot water& add the powder first, then the water slowly as you stir. ... Happy painting See more

03.01.2022 From plain pine to plain divine! Milk paint makes it super easy to achieve that gorgeous, chippy, rustic look. If you have something that needs some vintage character, this is an easy & quick process. These corbels are going to be part of the mantel over the fire place in our new studio space. The fireplace had been boarded up, and the original mantel long gone, so I’m building a floating mantle to replace it.

02.01.2022 Another beautiful transformation by Kat from Walnut lane in Winter Green Vintage Bird Furniture Paint. You can find more stunning pieces, and Vintage Bird goodies ist the Walnut lane website. www.walnutlane.com.au
