19.01.2022 Yellow-crowned and Blue-fronted Amazons enjoying Rambutans.

17.01.2022 Decisions, Decisions - what a bugger of a dilemma to be in. Young Lad is about 12mths old and the two young ladies are sisters, about 6mths old. The Young ladies are from Super Breeding Stock and the Young lad is an immigrant from the West.

16.01.2022 The advantage of blood sampling (my opinion). less stress/pain for me and the bird, done at 10/14 days when I leg ring the young in the nest. Sexed well before they have feathered and fledged.

15.01.2022 Other than Oz Rainbow Lorikeets

12.01.2022 The Blacks will have their fill of Bloodwood gum nuts in a couple of years. Two grafted and one root stock starters of another food source tree.

10.01.2022 The current full range of colour morphs in Scalies and Varied pairs

08.01.2022 Pics taken during a vist by Dutch Aviculturists about late Oct 2014. The Cockies in particular were a hit as were the Blue-cheek and Northern Rosellas.

08.01.2022 Way way out of season - either about 8 months late or 4 months early but who really cares as long as the chicks are raised to fledging. Northern Rosella AKA Browns Parrot/Parrakeet.

08.01.2022 Just had a feed of pellets and now for a snack on juicy corn on the cob.

08.01.2022 Some pics taken by Tracy van Reyk last w/end. Pics will compliment text on two articles on the two species of Rosella.

06.01.2022 Pale-headed AKA Meruake Lorikeets and Green-naped Lorikeets.

05.01.2022 Some of the current young recently fledged or still in the nest-box. Quite a few other pairs still on eggs. Been a good year for the Lorikeets.

05.01.2022 Well the breeding season seems to be kicking off quite well. Got two nests of Galahs, one chick out of two from the Easterns and four from four from the Westerns. Two very good clutches of IRNs and a couple of pairs of Lories and Lorikeets have eggs. The two older pairs of Amazons are showing signs of breeding, nest inspection and a bit of random mating. Fingers crossed.

04.01.2022 Young Naso sub-specie Red-tailed Black Cockatoos

04.01.2022 These work a treat for us, less intrusive in the flight, easy to check eggs/progress of chicks/remove chicks for DNA and banding. The two safety grids (the one on top lifts off) prevent accidental escape.

04.01.2022 Not a lot lately, birds breeding OK but been very busy at work. Head off for a bout a three week holiday mid next week.

01.01.2022 Parents of nestlings - dad to left and Mum to right.

01.01.2022 JUST SOME INFO TO CONSIDER IF YOU ARE USING OR CONSIDERING BUYING AN EGG BUDDY. AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE THAT CAN AND DOES ASSIST/REPLACE CANDLING. Instant verification of pulmonary rates The first thing that you will notice when you place a fertile egg into the Buddy digital heart monitor is the visual heart readout. This readout lets you know that the embryo is alive. The heart icon flashes to indicate that a heartbeat is detected; the pulse line reflects the strength of the he...Continue reading
