25.01.2022 Hold my beer whilst I trim this weeping Mulberry #killorcure
24.01.2022 Where does the dog end and the sheepskin start?
22.01.2022 Barry has a bit of cabin fever being stuck at home for a few days.
22.01.2022 Post work chores Even though they take up a fair amount of time. We love having them and spending time with them and looking after them. We are very lucky indeed.
21.01.2022 Nom nom nom. We were starving to death, it’s been at least 24hours since we last got hay from you. (The neighbour feeds us on the quiet ) But we almost died!
21.01.2022 The matriarch and her guard.
19.01.2022 More post work chores. The dirty roost bed.
18.01.2022 Lovely sunny winters day.
16.01.2022 Winter fruit tree pruning!
15.01.2022 So today on Birdsong we groomed our neighbours dog. He is very small, not at all what we are used to. But we liked it!
15.01.2022 This is a video of Charli and her sore back leg. We now know what it is. It is a subluxation of her patella. Her knee cap slips out of the groove and she can’t bend or put weight on her knee. She just had dental work done today, (whilst asleep for X-rays let’s spend some more money) and will be going for orthopaedic surgery next week. Yes it’s expensive surgery No she’s not insured ... Yes we wish we were vets No it’s too late to start that study Yes we are accepting donations! See more
14.01.2022 The keets at meal time. So fun to watch. This was filmed a couple of weeks ago, all but 3 babies have left Birdsong now. However we have found another clutch of eggs and will fire up the incubator soon.
12.01.2022 An afternoon swim at Polly McQuinns
11.01.2022 We had to post our snow video too
10.01.2022 Millie has self catered for Christmas
10.01.2022 Our Curdsy boy. We only had you for 5 short years. You were flighty at times, but mostly behaved for us. You loved our company: especially when we had hay. You were clever and cheeky and had erased those black marks on your score board. ... You were only just an older steer, way too young to lose you. Whey is going to miss you immensely, you were brothers first and friends second. You had spent every day of your lives together. The alpacas just ain’t going to cut it. Run free through all the fences you want now. Side kick as you go through all the gates in cow heaven: of course they are all open for you and the grass is always greener over there. Just know that you have left a 750kg hole in the lives of everyone here at Birdsong. We love you and we will miss you. XXX
10.01.2022 Charli update. It’s been 8 weeks (tomorrow) since Charli has her surgery and she is making great progress. She’s still in lockdown, with multiple walks during the day. She is going in for X-rays tomorrow for the final clearance! Fingers, toes and knees are crossed that it’s all healed brilliantly and she will be able to get back to normal life. Sleeping on the bed in the sun, spending time outside, being kept inside to stop her hunting baby birds, hanging with her peeps on the couch and spending time with Millie and avoiding the puppy love of Barry. We will let everyone know once we know the result!
08.01.2022 After. Nothing like a clean bed.
08.01.2022 And last but not least, the alpacas
07.01.2022 It’s Charli’s last night of freedom before her op and confinement. She spent the entire day inside. But spent all day out gardening with us on Saturday. We are dropping her off at 8.30 am. Wish her luck, well know actually wish her a very well skilled surgeon. Luck shouldn’t have much to do with it.
06.01.2022 Letting the animals through to the stable paddock. Whey first

04.01.2022 The winter rose pruning.
04.01.2022 We spent the day out in the garden today. Whilst busy working we had Susie Quattro drop in for some seeds. She makes a good parrot!
04.01.2022 It’s baby bird season! We have the first batch of keets hatched! And one gosling has hatched too, just today. I love this time of year, I really do.
01.01.2022 Seems they thought their camouflage would work best inside. #lovewherewelive
01.01.2022 Bit of a slow start, but he gets there. Part 1
01.01.2022 Barry’s turn!
01.01.2022 So this morning Jamie and I had to herd a guinea fowl with string caught round its foot into the coop, then catch it and untangle its leg. If you have ever tried to catch a guinea fowl you know what fast sneaky creatures they can be. Got it on the 3 Ed attempt. It stopped fighting once it realised we were trying to help it. Guinea fowl rarely stop fighting for their lives, it’s what makes them tick. But untangled and unharmed it is. #lovewherewelive
