24.01.2022 The Book Shed reopens this Saturday 13 June from 10am to 3pm. Grateful thanks to our generous donors who have filled the chute twice in the last few days. These new books will be sorted, priced and shelved for your consideration. We never price a book over $6 and there are many at $2, $3 and $4. We have made some changes to keep people safe, including entry via the main door and relocating our volunteer to the foyer. Hoping for your support - air conditioning the building is still our aim!

15.01.2022 Very sad to tell you that the Birdwood Institute, including the Book Shed, will be closed for at least the next two weeks due to Covid restrictions. Please do not deposit any books in the chute until we are able to reopen. Thanks as always to the ongoing support of the community and our volunteers, we have been able to schedule some extensive work in the big hall. During the December - January period there will be a small amount of painting done and then the stage and the main floor will be repaired, sanded and polished! Then new window and stage curtains will be hung. Should look spectacular! Will let you know when it's available for viewing!!!

13.01.2022 Very grateful thanks to Birdwood Primary School for their donation of 2 bookcases to the Book Shed. Special thanks to Bianca for her assistance and also the boys who wheeled them down the road! We now have 42 additional shelves!!! There are some empty spaces at the moment but they will fill quickly due to the generosity of our book donors! Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all who support the Institute and therefore keep it in community hands. The Book Shed will be open on Saturdays 10-3 as usual through the holiday period.

13.01.2022 The Book Shed will be closed until further notice due to the fires. Stay safe everyone.

12.01.2022 Great news! The small hall will be airconditioned. The timeline is a little unclear. Be nice if it was done for summer! But it will happen! Thanks to all those who have supported our fundraising efforts: those who have donated to or bought from the book shed; those who hire the facility; those who buy raffle tickets in the Blumberg Hotel's meat tray and chook raffle. We thank everyone who has helped in any way! But the biggest cheer goes to our band of VOLUNTEERS! Nothing would be possible without them! We won't be stopping here! Fundraising continues to aircondition the big hall and make other improvements!

11.01.2022 The Institute is closed to all activities. This is in line with the Adelaide Hills Council's decision to suspend all activities at its community centres. Hope to see you all again in better times!

10.01.2022 Looking for a venue to hold a POP UP STALL? The Birdwood Institute foyer and paved area in front of the main door are available at no cost. 10.01.2022 The Book Shed had requests recently for Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird" and books by Dorothy Dunnett but no names or phone numbers were left so we have not been able to make contact with requestee. These books are on the shelf above the desk awaiting collection!

09.01.2022 The Adelaide Hills Council is conducting a sports and recreation survey. 08.01.2022 The Friends of Birdwood Institute Inc.1 has been operating the facility for 8 years now. We have a regular clientele and more and more the hall is being used for private functions. Our finances are in a healthy state. The facilities have been vastly improved. The improvements have included the kitchen, storage facilities in the foyer, renovation of the floor in the small hall, painting of the main hall, installation of curtains... and blinds and the creation of the Bookshed. We are now looking into replacing the inadequate and out dated heating units in both halls. The replacements will most likely be multiple split system air conditioners. The current committee is committed to keeping the hall operational and financially viable but since we took over management from the Adelaide Hills Council 8 years ago, our numbers have dwindled. The most recent fiscal year has revealed that short term reductions in the personnel strength of the committee due to other commitments, holidays and sickness. has put extra workload and a strain on remaining committee members. I urge you all to consider attending our AGM next Tuesday with a view to helping out with the various tasks which need to be done to keep the hall operational and financially viable over the coming year(s). 07.01.2022 The Institute is open again. We expect that the Book Shed will be open on Saturdays 10-3 as usual unless a catastrophic fire day is declared.

07.01.2022 This Saturday 19 Dec is your last chance to visit the book shed to make sure you have enough to read over the holiday period. The book shed will be closed on 26 Dec and 2 Jan, reopening on 9 Jan. Best Wishes to All for Christmas and the New Year!

06.01.2022 Magnificent, beautiful, stunning.......words cannot describe how lovely the floors in the main hall look. They have been repaired, sanded and polished. The richness of the jarrah is gorgeous. I'll try to post a photo in the next few days but not sure a photo can do it justice. Please call in and have a look when the book shed reopens on 9 January (10-3). We also had the floor in the small hall repaired, lightly sanded and polished. That looks great too but the change is not as dramatic! Huge thanks to Evan, Tamara and John from Mid North Floor Sanding and Polishing for their work. Best Wishes for Christmas and 2021!

01.01.2022 It's happening! Air conditioning will be installed in the small hall Nov 4-6! Exciting! It's been a long time coming but worth the wait! Thanks to all who have aided our fund raising efforts!

01.01.2022 Fabulous news! As many of you know, the Friends of the Birdwood Institute have been working towards having the Institute air conditioned. After funding an electrical engineer's report, Adelaide Hills Council has now agreed to pay for the recommended upgrades ($10,000 - $12,000) to accommodate an air conditioning system! In the mean time we'll keep selling books and hiring out the facility to raise the money needed!!!!
