25.01.2022 While we don't have a photo to prove it, another father son combo escaped without a mention last week. Greg and Jack, good to see you back in the whites for Birdwood...
25.01.2022 Congratulations to Zach McKenny who was selected to play in the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association team yesterday against Kangaroo Island Cricket Association in Penneshaw. It was a low scoring game with KICA making 88 runs for their innings. Whilst that seemed like an achievable target for the AEHCA team, it was not to be, with the team all out for 74. Well done to Zach who bowled 4 overs and got figures of 2/4.
25.01.2022 For the under 12s presentation, we held a lunch on the Sunday followed by presentations to the kids. Thanks to all the kids who were part of this team and to all the parents for their support throughout the season whether it was by scoring, cooking the BBQ or just getting your kids to the games each week. Massive thanks to Shane Randell for his work throughout the season. It’s not always easy working with kids but Shane did a fantastic job and it was great to see some real improvements in their skills. Congratulations also to Riley who won the Todd Gripton Junior Award which was awarded to Riley due to his commitment to the club. Whilst next season seems like a long time away, it will come around pretty quickly so hopefully the kids will all be back again. Stay safe everyone and we’ll see you next season.
25.01.2022 Well it was a week to forget in the seniors last weekend. The A Grade headed off to Paracombe and found themselves chasing leather. Paracombe posted 9/201, which was always going to be difficult to chase. Josh Goodwin had a good one, with two wickets and two catches, and Jack Foster took two wickets, with the rest being shared. There were another four catches and two run outs, which is pleasing. It wasn't the best start to our innings, when we found ourselves at 6/18. Determi...ned that we would pass our lowest score in recent history, Todd Gripton and Angus Shapley built a partnership, with the score passing 50 before Angus was caught. Euan MacLachlan then put together a quickfire 25, supported at the other end by Sheldon Wild. These cameos meant we were able to get to a total of 86, something which seemed out of reach earlier. The B Grade played Paracombe at home and got off to a great start, with Jye Wootton taking a wicket in his second over. Wickets fell on a regular basis, although the runs continued in between, with Paracombe ending on 8/169. Wickets were shared, with two each to Jye, Adam Marotta, Tylor Crannaford and Don Rocca. On fire in the field was Daniel Shelton, with a great catch on the boundary and some T20 fielding to save a boundary. Scott Southwell also took a catch described by the Paracombe players as a KFC classic catch. Chasing down the runs was always going to be difficult, but Craig Bahnisch and Adam Marotta got off to a good start. Unfortunately Craig wasn't able to follow on where he left off last match, being dismissed for 11, with Adam following one run later. Wickets then steadily fell while the runs kept slowly ticking over, with the team finally falling for 101. Highest scorers were Jye with 23no and Alex Carroll in his first game since Under 10s, also with 23. We look forward to seeing what he can do next match! Enjoy the rest of the long weekend and we look forward to games next weekend against Palmer.
25.01.2022 Games on this week are as follows: Friday: Under 12s - Birdwood vs Woodside at Birdwood Oval... Saturday: Under 14s - Bye A Grade - Birdwood vs Lenswood Ranges at Birdwood Oval B Grade - Lenswood Ranges vs Birdwood at Lenswood Oval Good luck to all teams, in particular the A and B Grades playing their final games for the season.
24.01.2022 On Friday night our under 12s played against Lobethal and we welcomed another new player, Bill who was playing his first game of under 12s for Birdwood. We batted first and made 25 runs with our top scorer being Bill who made 9 runs including a couple fantastic fours. Lobethal then batted making a total of 86 runs. Fantastic bowling by Ella who got 2/12 off her two overs and also Ava who got her first ever wicket. On Saturday our under 14s played their first week against Wood...side who won the toss and decided to bat. Woodside made a total of 5/185 for their 40 overs with wickets being taken by Riley, Jayden and Cooper. Riley bowled well with 2/9 off 5 overs, including 2 maidens. It would have been interesting to see how we would have gone with the bat next week but unfortunately we won’t be able to find out. As you would most likely be aware, all games have been cancelled for the next 2 weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions being brought in. Fingers crossed that the games will resume soon. In the meantime, stay safe everyone.
24.01.2022 For the final week of the season, the under 12s played at home against Lobethal. Batting first, we made a total of 51 runs with Riley top scoring on 16 not out. Another highlight in our batting was when Josh came to the crease and hit a 4 on his first ball. Taking to the field, we knew that 51 would be difficult to defend against Lobethal but to the kids credit, they never gave up, even when it got so dark that the lights had to be switched on. Lobethal ended with 97 runs wit...h wickets going to Jackson, Talise and Lachy. A positive that came from our bowling was that we only bowled 22 wides which was the lowest amount all season. Most games the number of wides was in the 30s and some games even in the 40s or 50s! So only bowling 22 wides was a massive achievement showing the improvement that has happened over the season. On Saturday, the under 14s began the day on 1/62 after Nairne had scored 76 the previous week. The final 15 runs were scored to win and then some exceptional batting for the rest of the morning saw us finish on 207 runs which was our highest score for the season. Top scorer was Sunny with a fabulous 50 not out. Some great batting for the day also came from Zach with 27, Seth with 22 and Samuel with 18. Overall, a great way to finish the season. Whilst the season has now finished, there is one important match which is being held on Saturday morning as part of the under 14s presentation. A parents vs kids game go the parents!!! Hope you’ve all trained successfully this week in readiness to play against the kids! To finish off the cricket season, the presentation for the under 12s and seniors is being held on Sunday at 12.00. Hope to see you all there for one final celebration of the season.
23.01.2022 Join us this Saturday (23rd February) for our final tea for the season. We will be serving chicken schnitzels, chips and salads. Hope to see you there.
23.01.2022 It was great to have some rain over the weekend, but not great for cricket. Both the under 12s and under 14s were cancelled due to the wet weather. Hope the parents enjoyed an unexpected night and/or morning off. Junior games next weekend are: Friday - Under 12s bye Saturday - Under 14s vs Wistow at Wistow (changed to a 20 over game due to this week being rained out)
22.01.2022 Please be advised that there will be no teas at the Clubrooms this Saturday night (9th February).
22.01.2022 The season is fast approaching! Spread the word....
22.01.2022 Countdown to cricket season is on....
22.01.2022 After having a few weeks with no teas at the club, we're back on!! Tea this Saturday night (15th February) will be hamburgers and chips. Hope to see you there.
22.01.2022 As we approach the season opener next weekend, an extra training session was held on Sunday for anyone who was keen. Well done to those who were able to make it and welcome to new recruit Aaron Burgess.
21.01.2022 The season is fast approaching! Spread the word....
20.01.2022 Last Friday night our under 12s played against Woodside Red. After Woodside batted first and made 108 runs, we then batted and made 46. It was good to see wickets achieved by Scott, Angus, Tahran and Ava. A great achievement by Ava to obtain her first ever wicket. Last Saturday the under 14s played their first 40 over game and after Hahndorf won the toss they decided to bat. At drinks, things were looking really good. We’d only got one wicket but Hahndorf had only managed 60 ...runs. However, for the second 20 overs Hahndorf really got going and they ended the day with 2/168. 56 extras also didn’t help our cause. Wickets were from the bowling of Oscar and Jasper. Hopefully we have a good batting day tomorrow. The junior games this weekend are as follows: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside Blue at Birdwood oval Saturday - Under 14s vs Hahndorf at Echunga oval (2nd week) Good luck to all teams playing this weekend.
19.01.2022 After having a long break with school holidays, a bye and a game washed out, the under 12s finally got to have a game. We batted first making a total of 69 with the top scorer unfortunately being the 44 wides which often happens in junior cricket. Best with the bat was Jackson with 7 and Lachy with 9 not out (including an awesome 4 which Lachy enjoyed telling people about ). Defending 69 against Cambrai was always going to be difficult and Cambrai got to this score in the 16...th over. Unfortunately our bowling also saw the 49 wides as the top scorer which is something to work on in the last few games. The under 14s were up against second placed Hahndorf in a two day game. After winning the toss, we chose to bat given that it was a drizzly morning where bowling and fielding was always going to be difficult. Opening the batting was Zach and Luke who got off to a strong start but then a bit of confusion with their running saw both of them up the same end (lucky that friendship wins out over cricket just!! ). Luke went on to get 32 (retired) including several fours which was hard to get on a wet ground. Seth joined him at the crease and seemed to be seeing the ball extremely well. Some beautiful shots saw Seth end up with 24 runs. After losing a few quick wickets, Samuel came to the crease and anyone whose seen Samuel bat knows that he’s there for a good time, not necessarily a long time! Most balls saw Samuel try to hit a boundary which he succeeded on several occasions and finished on 15 runs. It was looking like we might get all out before our 40 overs when Riley and Lachy decided to settle things down a bit and try to bat out the remaining overs. With a final partnership of 27 runs both boys did extremely well to hang in there until the last ball when Riley decided he might as well go for a big hit and was caught out. The team finished with 139 which will be challenging but hopefully with some good bowling, it will be a defendable total. Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Lenswood at Birdwood Saturday - Under 14s vs Hahndorf at Lenswood (2nd week) Good luck to everyone playing.
19.01.2022 It was great last week to have another father son combo playing, in Scott and Tommy Burns, but also to welcome Scott back to the Club. After playing his junior cricket with us, he went on to bigger and better things, but we'd always hoped we'd see him back here one day. It's great to see you both in the maroon and white!
18.01.2022 Well, after a few tough weeks on the field, the seniors turned things around last weekend, with both teams winning. The A Grade headed to Mt Torrens hoping for their second win for the season, but after winning the toss and deciding to bat, were off to a shaky start at 2/10. Adam Krahnert steadied things and was joined by Captain for the day, Josh Goodwin, to take the team to 47 before the next wicket fell. Joel Organ then came in and made his highest score for the Club so ...far, followed by Sheldon Wild who has batted so well at training, he found himself promoted up the order. Cameos from Euan MacLachlan (12 from 4 balls) and Alex Carroll (8 from 9) followed, to have the team finish on 7/147. Highest scores were Adam 29, Josh 37, Joel 30 and Sheldon 20 not out. Confidence was up and unfortunately for Mt Torrens, they didn’t have their strongest side available. We were able to dismiss them for 50, with Shane Randell taking 3/9, Euan 2/13 and single wickets to Josh, Brennan North and Paul ‘Pud’ McNamara. The B Grade took on Lenswood Ranges Foresters at home and like the A Grade, won the toss and decided to bat. With live scoring happening at both grounds, we were able to keep an eye on the other game, and much of the B Grade innings mirrored the A Grade. After being 1/11, then 2/27, Brad Smith came to the crease and didn’t look like leaving, going on to make 50 not out. Supporting him were Blake Crannaford with 19 and Andrew ‘Frogger’ Loechel with 16, along with Sam Morley, who batted well at the end and made sure to rotate the strike to allow Brad to get to 50. Finishing on 6/121, nobody was sure if this would be enough. Blake opened the bowling and seemed to be on a mission, getting the first five wickets to have Lenswood 5/14 and then taking a catch to have them 6/24. He finished his eight overs, with 5/7, a match winning performance. Bowling was tight from everyone, with Rob ‘Strauchanie’ Knight, Stuart Kenny and Brad Smith taking a wicket each and Daniel Shelton stepping in to take 2/8. Despite some resistance from one of their batsmen, Lenswood were dismissed for 58. Not being able to recall when both senior teams last won on the same day, Don went searching back through past results, finding that the last time this happened was 16th November 2013. Playing in the winning teams that weekend and also this week, were Todd Gripton (no surprises there!), Blake Crannaford, Craig Bahnisch and Adam Levy. Interestingly, Jimmy Carroll and Tim Morley played in 2013, with Alex and Sam playing in 2020. Father son rule?! This weekend we take on Eden Valley, with the A Grade at home and B Grade away. Good luck to both teams and let’s try to do it again!
17.01.2022 Whilst the under 12s haven’t played games throughout the school holidays, the under 14s have continued playing. Before Christmas, they finished off their game against Nairne. Nairne had batted the first week making 200 runs and the following week we batted making a total of 94. Top scorers for this game were Riley with 16 runs and Samuel with 13 runs. After having a break for Christmas and New Year, the under 14s then played Echunga. Echunga batted the first week making 7/18...7 for their 40 overs. Well done to Lachy, Jackson and Cooper for getting a wicket each and also to Jackson for getting a run out. However, the multiple wicket taker for the game was Riley who got 3/18 off 4.4 overs. Apparently not having much sleep before a game works for Riley who also got 2 wickets in the afternoon when he played B grade! The under 14s then batted the following week making 7/111. The junior games this weekend are as follows: Friday Under 12s vs Lobethal at Lobethal oval Saturday - Under 14s have a bye. Scratch match instead involving the parents hope there aren’t too many injuries! Good luck to the under 12s this week. Hope they all enjoyed the break and are now ready and raring to go.
16.01.2022 Games on this week are as follows: Friday: Under 12s - Birdwood vs Lenswood Ranges at Birdwood Oval... Saturday: Under 14s - Bye A Grade - Rose Park vs Birdwood at Houghton Oval B Grade - Birdwood vs Rose Park at Birdwood Oval Good luck to all teams
16.01.2022 Welcome to the 2019/20 cricket season (sorry I’m a week late!). Games on this week are as follows: Saturday: Under 14s Birdwood/Lenswood vs Woodside at Birdwood Oval (1st week) A Grade Birdwood vs Mount Torrens/Charleston at Birdwood Oval... B Grade Bye Under 12s are due to begin their season next Friday night. Good luck to all teams playing this week.
16.01.2022 The next round of cricket is about to kick off, following a win for the A Grade last week against Mt Torrens (those tough preseason training sessions must have paid off!). A great start for new Captain Angus Shapley and his team. Special mention to Angus and Todd who took three wickets each and to Euan and Angus who batted together in a fifty run partnership to edge towards the win. Under 14s played well to set up an interesting day two. They had Woodside 8 for 36, but som...e good batting from Woodside’s lower order had them finishing on 111. Outstanding performances from Luke with 3/6, Blake with 3/15, and Seth taking three catches. Games this weekend are: Friday: Under 12s vs Cambrai at Birdwood Saturday: Under 14s vs Woodside at Birdwood (2nd week) A Grade vs Eden Valley at Birdwood B Grade vs Eden Valley at Eden Valley
16.01.2022 Teas are back this Saturday night (11th January). Join us for roast lamb/pork and gravy rolls. There might even be a birthday cake for the kids for dessert!
15.01.2022 Despite the seniors not playing on the weekend because of the Test match in Adelaide, the juniors were still scheduled to play. Unfortunately for the under 12s, the weather on Friday night wasn’t kind and the game was cancelled due to rain. On Saturday morning the weather had cleared up enough for the under 14s to play at Birdwood against Mount Barker. After winning the toss, we decided to bat and finished our 40 overs with 7/200. Top scorer was Zach with 38 runs closely foll...owed by Sunny with 32. Luke, Seth and Samuel all batted well to get at least 20 runs each. Fingers crossed the team can have a great day bowling this Saturday. Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Lobethal at Birdwood Saturday - Under 14s vs Mount Barker at Birdwood (2nd week)
15.01.2022 This week the under 12s travelled to Springton to play against a very strong and more experienced team. Mt Pleasant/Springton ended with a total of 203 runs which was far above the 41 runs we were able to get. It was positive though to see some very accurate bowling with all four of the wickets being bowled. These wickets went to Aidan, Lachy, Seb and Emily. Some very economical bowling was also achieved by Aidan (4 runs per over), Marley (3 runs per over), Ella (4.5 runs per... over) and Charlotte (5 runs per over). On Saturday, the under 14s were up against Nairne Maroon. After winning the toss, Nairne elected to bat first. After initially having them at 3/12, Nairne settled in and only lost the 4th wicket at 51 runs. However, some great bowling meant that Nairne were all out for 76 in the 29th over. The wickets were spread around amongst many of the team with double wickets going to Riley and Seth. Very economical bowling was achieved by Zach (1/2 off 3 overs), Luke and Blake (both got 1/4 off 3 overs), Sunny (0/5 off 3 overs) and Riley (2/5 off 3 overs). Having 11 overs left in the day to bat, we did well to end on 1/62 with Luke making 35 and Zach on 19 not out. Hopefully some more great batting will happen next week for our final week. Junior games finish up this weekend with the final games being: Friday - Under 12s vs Lobethal at Birdwood Saturday - Under 14s vs Nairne Maroon at Nairne (2nd week) Good luck and I hope you all enjoy the last week of junior cricket.
14.01.2022 Sorry but there is no tea at the club this Saturday (14th November). Apologies to those who were hoping to have a night out but perhaps instead you could support the Blumberg Hotel or Birdwood Country Pizzas both of which are our wonderful sponsors. See you all for a tea at the club next Saturday night.
14.01.2022 Congratulations to Luke, Riley and Samuel for being selected in the Association teams. Well done boys.
14.01.2022 Well done to the TVCA team who won their Figg Cup match against Great Southern at Lenswood on Sunday, especially to Angus Shapley, Euan MacLachlan and Jack Foster. Good luck in the final!
13.01.2022 Join us for our final Saturday night tea for this season. Fish, chips and salad. Hope you can make it.
12.01.2022 On Friday night our under 12s played against Woodside Red. We bowled first with Woodside making a total of 94 without losing any wickets. There was however some very economical bowling by Tahran (0/2 off 2 overs), Aidan (0/4 off 2 overs), Scott (0/6 off 2 overs) and Ava/Katara (both got 0/8 off 2 overs). We then batted and made a total of 67. There was some great batting from Angus (13 not out), Aidan (7 not out) and Scott (7 runs). On Saturday our under 14s were due to play ...a T20 game but unfortunately there was just enough rain to prevent them from playing. The weather is looking better for this weekend so fingers crossed the under 14s get a game! The junior games this weekend are as follows: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside Blue at Woodside oval Saturday - Under 14s vs Nairne at Nairne oval (1st week) Good luck to all teams playing this weekend.
12.01.2022 The A Grade saw some promising batting last weekend from Sam who made 30 and Mark who made 37 runs. Perhaps there will be a 50 next week? Great bowling by Euan who got 2/9 off 6 overs and Sam who got 2/31. In the B Grade, there was an exciting finish and the game could have gone either way. Adam batted well for his 31 runs as well as Todd who made 38 not out. With some fabulous bowling at the end of the day by 13 year old Blake, we managed to win by 10 runs. Blake finished wi...th 3/14 in addition to Scott, Tylor and DJ contributing with 2 wickets each. Well done, it was a real team effort. A special mention must also go to Renee who was called into the team at the last minute. With 2 Gripton’s and 2 Rocca’s playing, it was a real family game. The under 14s had a tough day with a strong Strathalbyn side making 273 runs. Samuel and Luke both bowled well to get 2 wickets each. Fingers crossed for some good batting by us next week. In the under 12s there was some strong batting from Riley who got 22 runs. Jackson, Riley and Lachy contributed to the bowling with a wicket each. Unfortunately, no carryover hat-trick for Talise! Games this weekend are: Friday: Under 12s have a bye Saturday: Under 14s vs Strathalbyn at Strathalbyn (2nd week) A Grade vs Gumeracha at Birdwood B Grade vs Gumeracha at Gumeracha Good luck to all grades.
12.01.2022 Looking back at last weekend, it was a tough one for the senior teams. The A Grade played at home against Cambrai and while we had them 1/2, they batted on and ended up with 6/202, which is always going to be difficult to chase. Wickets were shared around, with a group of players taking one each. A highlight was three catches to Alex Carroll. Parko and Adam Krahnert then got the team off to a good start, taking them to 37 before the first wicket fell, however they fell re...gularly from that point and we were bowled out for 79. Top scorer was Adam, with 32. The B Grade travelled to Cambrai and while it was looking for a while like we wouldn’t have enough players for a game, Rowan Randell, Brayden Lee and Daniel Nenasheff all put up their hands to play (thanks!!) In a similar start to the A Grade, Cambrai batted first and we had them 1/1 and then 2/9. Unfortunately, the runs then ticked over and they ended up with 7/176. Best with the ball were Stuart Kenny, with 3/28 and Adam Marotta with 2/49. Pleasingly, 7 catches were taken. Again, in a similar situation to the A Grade, Adam Levy and Adam Marotta got off to a start, getting to 31 before the first wicket fell. Runs then continued to slowly accumulate and we ended up with 8/95 from our 40 overs. Top scorers were Scott Southwell, with 25 no, and Adam Marotta with 17. Good luck to everyone playing this weekend and here’s hoping for some more runs from our batsmen! A Grade are playing Mt Torrens at Mt Torrens and B Grade take on Lenswood Ranges Foresters at home.
11.01.2022 After having a break over Christmas and New Year, the under 14s will resume again this Saturday the 11th. The game is at Lenswood at 8.45 and is against Hahndorf. Good luck to everyone playing.
11.01.2022 Congratulations to Klose's Supermarkets & Cellarbrations who have been a sponsor for the Birdwood Cricket Club for many years now. Remember to support our wonderful sponsors and support local!

10.01.2022 Games on this week are as follows: Friday: Under 12s - Cambrai vs Birdwood at Cambrai Oval... Saturday: Under 14s - Strathalbyn vs Lenswood Ranges/Birdwood at Ashbourne Oval (2nd week) A Grade - Palmer vs Birdwood at Palmer Oval B Grade - Birdwood vs Palmer at Birdwood Oval Good luck to all teams.
10.01.2022 Good luck to Sam Morley, Riley McKenny and Thomas Christian, playing in the AEHCA 2nd XI today in the Fuller Shield game at Langhorne Creek.
10.01.2022 Sorry for the delayed post, but who would have thought that it was only two weeks ago that we were completing the 2019/20 season with a weekend of presentations. So much has changed in the world since then. For the under 14s presentation, the morning began with a game of cricket parents vs kids. There were quite a few nervous parents around nervous to find out if their skills would match their kids, nervous about what their kids would deliver to them but most of all, nerv...ous that this game of cricket may cause an injury to them! Thankfully there were no injuries but instead a fun game of cricket. I won’t go into the details about who won the game (the parents!) otherwise the kids may argue that the parents got to bat for more overs (because there were more parents). So let’s just say that it was a draw! After the game and a bite to eat, the presentations were held. Well done to Luke, Seth, Zach and Sunny who all won trophies. Thanks to all the kids who were part of this team and to all the parents for their support throughout the season. A big thanks also to Al and the Lenswood Ranges Cricket Club for the support given in creating a combined team. But the biggest thanks has to go to Matthew Hannaford who worked tirelessly with the kids each week and the improvements shown throughout the season was a credit to him. Thanks Matt. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their cricket and will be back again next season.
09.01.2022 Friday night saw the under 12s play against Lenswood at home. Batting first, we struggled to get many runs but managed to bat out our 20 overs to make 52 runs, only losing 4 wickets. Highlight of the batting, was the superb 4 hit by Rowan. The aim for our bowling this week was to reduce the number of wides bowled compared to the week before and this was done successfully. Fingers crossed it can be done again next game. Lenswood were easily able to make the runs needed but it ...was positive to see wickets taken by Rowan and Sky. A couple run outs were also achieved with Riley, Sky and Lachy all contributing to these. A big thanks goes to Scott who stepped in as coach when our regular coach Shane thought going to the Adelaide 500 was more important than cricket what was he thinking!! Saturday morning saw the under 14s play the second week against Hahndorf, hoping to get them out before they made our previous weeks total of 139. A good start for us saw Hahndorf on 2/1 but Hahndorf then settled things down a bit and by drinks at the 20 overs, they were on 2/53. It was looking like it might be a close finish, but with some very strong batting after drinks, Hahndorf reached our total in the 34th over then powered on to finish with a total of 183. Best bowling goes to Zach who got 3/26 and single wickets were also achieved by Seth, Luke, Stanley and Thomas. Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Mt Pleasant/Springton at Springton Saturday - Under 14s vs Nairne Maroon at Nairne (1st week) Good luck and I hope you all enjoy the last two weeks of junior cricket.
09.01.2022 Want an easy tea this Saturday night (2nd November)? Roast lamb and gravy rolls will be available at the clubrooms. Come for a meal, a chat and a drink or two.
09.01.2022 Congratulations to Jack, Dugall, Euan and Jack who played for TVCA in the Figg Cup Grand Final on the weekend. They took out the win and made the Club very proud! Well done boys.
09.01.2022 Join us this Saturday night (30th January) for tea at the clubrooms. Come and enjoy a hamburger and chips. Hope to see you there.
09.01.2022 Reminder about tea at the Birdwood Clubrooms this Saturday night. Pig on a spit and lamb slow cooked by the wonderful team at Mount Pleasant Butcher. Also included is a baked potato, salads and sticky date pudding for dessert. Hope to see you there.
09.01.2022 Join us in a few weeks time for pig and lamb on a spit. For anyone who has been to our spit teas in previous years, you'll remember how delicious the meat is. It would be great to have a good crowd for this tea, including both the senior and junior players and families. Hope to see you all there.
08.01.2022 With a few players away this week, the under 12s were looking for someone to fill in and who better to join the team than Emily’s sister, Isabelle. Playing against a strong Woodside team was always going to be difficult but the team did well to stay focused in the field when a lot of runs were being scored. A beautiful caught and bowled by Jackson gave them their first wicket and the only other wicket was for Sky. Riley bowled 2 very tight overs and only got hit for 4 runs. T...he team struggled with the batting and lost 4 wickets very quickly. Seb and Emily batted well to settle things down a bit but Josh and Sky batted beautifully to enable the team to get through the innings without being bowled out. On Saturday morning the under 14s had a 20 over game against Woodside who are currently top of the ladder. Woodside were very strong with the bat scoring 136 but there was some great bowling to prevent the score being higher. Stanley got 2/13 from his 2 overs and wickets were also taken by Riley, Jack and Henry. Catches by Sunny, Samuel and Seth helped in the field, as well as a fantastic run out by Luke. Unfortunately the team didn’t bat as well as they have in some previous games and only make 67 for the game. The highlight of this was Sunny who made his 20 runs in 20 balls and would have definitely kept making runs if he didn’t have to retire when making 20. Junior teams now have a break so the under 12s don’t play again until after school holidays and the under 14s don’t play until the 11th January. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas break. See you in the New Year.
08.01.2022 On Friday night the under 12s lost against a strong Lobethal side. However, the team were excited to welcome two new players, Marley and Charlotte. Both did a great job and from what I was told, enjoyed the game. In particular, Marley enjoyed his first game as he got both a wicket and a catch. Fantastic bowling also by Ella with figures of 2/5. The under 14s continued their match against Mount Barker on Saturday morning having to defend the 200 runs made the previous week. Af...ter batting so well the previous week, the team backed this up with fabulous bowling and ended up with their first win for the season. Mount Barker made a total of 95 runs managing to hang in there until the final over when they were bowled out. Zach bowled well to finish with 3/6, Jack got 2 wickets and the remaining wickets were spread around between the bowlers. It was a great effort all round bowling with many very economical figures. Great work in the field saw Luke get 3 catches and a stumping while Seth also got 2 catches. Overall a great team effort! Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside at Birdwood Saturday - Under 14s vs Woodside at Woodside # 2 oval Good luck to all teams.
08.01.2022 With cricket returning this weekend, so is our Saturday night tea. Join us at the Clubrooms for a delicious baked potato with a range of toppings. COVID-SAfe check in and rules will be in place. Hope to see you there.
08.01.2022 Come to the clubrooms this Saturday night for tea. BBQ chicken, chips and salad will be available. See you there.
07.01.2022 Welcome to the 2020/21 junior cricket season. The under 12s played their first game last night and whilst it may not have been a win on the scoreboard, it was a win for the kids who played. Well done to Tahran for his 7 runs and to Aidan for his wicket and run out. Congratulations to Ava and Cooper (pictured) for playing their first game of cricket. Welcome to the Club and we hope you enjoy the season. Also welcome to Angus, Scott and Tahran from Lenswood who have joined us to make a combined Birdwood/Lenswood team. Big thanks to Al and the Lenswood Ranges Cricket Club for working with us again this season.
07.01.2022 Another father son combo - Tim and Sam. We hear you both enjoyed playing together! Might become a regular thing....
06.01.2022 After the first week being washed out, the under 14s game against Wistow became a T20. We started out batting and got off to a fairly quick start. After the first 10 overs, we were on 62 and after a slower final 10 overs, we finished with a total of 90. Best with the bat was Luke who scored 21 off 20 balls (then had to retire), Zach and Seth with 12 each and Thomas with 11. Wistow then batted and after their first 10 overs were on 38 runs. However, with some quicker scoring ...in the second half, they were only needing 13 off the last over which in junior cricket, anything could happen. Luckily we kept them to 7 in the last over winning the game by 6 runs. Best bowling goes to Luke who got 2/4 off 2 overs which were both fantastic stumpings by Thomas. Wickets were also taken by Stanley, Samuel, Jack and Lachy. Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Cambrai at Cambrai Saturday - Under 14s vs Hahndorf at Lenswood (1st week) Good luck to everyone playing this weekend.
06.01.2022 It may have been a week to forget in the seniors last weekend, but it was a week to remember in the under 14s. After winning the toss, we decided to bat first against Nairne Maroon. The 20 overs saw us with a total of 2/127 after a small break in the last over to watch the Tour Down Under go past the Nairne oval. Contributions with the bat came from Luke (32 runs), Samuel (19 runs), Zach and Thomas (16 runs each) and Seth (15 runs). We then took to the field to bowl with Nair...ne finishing on 8/94 at the end of their overs. Everyone bowled economically with single wickets going to Zach, Luke (beautiful caught and bowled), Samuel, Jackson (in his first game of under 14s) and Sunny (1/1 off his 1 over). One of the wickets was due to a run out by Riley and the other two wickets went to Riley with Luke’s contribution of catching both of them. Lachy also bowled well with 0/7 from his two overs in only his second game with the under 14s. It’s great to see the kids all improving so much and working so well as a team. Junior games this weekend are: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside at Birdwood Saturday - Under 14s vs Wistow at Wistow Welcome back to the under 12s who have had a break over the school holidays. Good luck to everyone on the weekend.
06.01.2022 Well done to our boys who were part of this team. Great win!
06.01.2022 Recent results haven’t been great, so let’s see if we can turn things around today against Palmer. A highlight of last week was another family affair, with Rowan playing his first game of senior cricket with Dad Shane. Also playing B Grade were Under 14 players Riley and Samuel (apologies Sam, you left before we could get a photo)... Hope to see you all tonight for tea.
05.01.2022 As you have no doubt heard, all community sports (matches and training) have been cancelled for the next two weeks, due to the increase in Covid cases in SA. While this is disappointing, we need to all play our part to get this back under control. We’re sure this will be a constantly evolving situation and we will keep you updated as things change. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Stay safe and well and hopefully we’ll see you back at the cricket very soon.
05.01.2022 This season our under 14s are combining with Lobethal and we thank Marc, Melinda and Lobethal Cricket Club for your willingness to work with us. It’s been great to see the Birdwood and Lobethal kids mix so well together already for the very short time since we’ve combined our teams. After being rained out last week for our first game, our under 14s finally got to have the game of cricket they’ve been waiting for. This morning they played Mount Barker in a 20/20 game with Mount Barker scoring 126 and our team making 78. Well done to Samuel and Jasper for making 20 runs each and also to Lachy and Robert for each getting a wicket. Looking forward to the season ahead.
05.01.2022 Good luck to Codie, Zach and Seth playing for Alexandra & Eastern Hills in the Fuller Shield Grand Final today at Strath. Go boys!
05.01.2022 After four weeks with no cricket, the B Grade were well rested leading into last weekend and managed to beat Gumeracha, who were top of the table, by seven wickets. Gum were bowled out for 86, with Blake Crannaford taking 4/21, Rob (Strauchanie) Knight 2/10 and Jye (Mr W) Wootton 3/16. The team fielded well and Adam Levy took three catches behind the stumps. Some solid batting followed, with the runs being made in 26 overs. Craig Bahnisch returned after some time away, and ...carried his bat, with 42no and Matt Evans, in his first game for the Club, made 25. A Grade weren't quite able to get the job done, although there were a few highlights. We bowled Gum out for 141, with Shane Randell taking 4/44, Toddles 2/23 and Josh Goodwin 2/15. The team fielded well, with six catches being taken and a run out. Unfortunately batting didn't go as planned, with the team only making 77. Highest run scorers were Pud McNamara with 15 and Matt (Parko) Parkin and Dugall MacLachlan 16 each. Games this weekend are against Paracombe, with B Grade at home and A Grade away. Paracombe Cricket Club are hosting a CFS fundraising event, so for anyone heading to Paracombe, take a few dollars with you.
04.01.2022 As we get the season restarted, people will be required to check in each time they are at the Club, including at training. Paper check in will be available, but we encourage people to use the mySA GOV app if possible.
04.01.2022 It was fantastic to have so many juniors out at training tonight and luckily the rain held off just long enough (not so much for the seniors though!). It was also great to have some new junior players at training and hopefully they enjoyed themselves. The junior games this weekend are as follows: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside Red at Woodside # 2 oval... Saturday - Under 14s vs Hahndorf at Echunga oval (1st week) Good luck to all the teams.
03.01.2022 Tea at the clubrooms this Saturday (16th February) is BBQ chicken, chips and salad. Hope to see you all there.
03.01.2022 Join us this Saturday night for tea at the clubrooms after the game. Hot dogs and chips will be available. Hope to see you there.
03.01.2022 The jury was out when it came to deciding what to cook for tea so you get a choice this week. Hot dogs or roast lamb rolls. Come this Saturday night (13th February) and enjoy whichever one you prefer! Hope to see you there.
03.01.2022 Congratulations to Luke Faucett, who is representing AEHCA today in the Calaby Shield match at Langhorne Creek. Also, to Sam Morley and Thomas Christian, playing again in the Fuller Shield. Bad luck to Riley McKenny watching from the sidelines this week with an arm that may or may not be fractured (again!)
03.01.2022 As the warmer weather arrives, it's time to start getting ready for the upcoming season... Senior and junior players always welcome!
02.01.2022 Tea this Saturday (16th November) at the Clubrooms is baked potatoes. Join us for a delicious meal.
01.01.2022 It was a tough round last weekend with all four grades losing their matches. Sam batted well in the A Grade for 28 runs and tight bowling by Rob had him finish with 1/11 off 5 overs. The Crannaford brothers played well in the B Grade with Blake getting 2/36 and Tylor was not out for 29. But best bowling has to go to Jye who finished with 4/11 off 7 overs. A special mention also to 12 year old Riley who filled in for B Grade and apparently was a ball magnet in the field. The u...nder 14s had a close game losing by 5 runs in the last over of the day. Zach and Seth batted well to nearly win the game with Seth finishing on 27 not out. Under 12s played their first game of the season and had a narrow loss to Cambrai. Great bowling from Josh who got 2/11 and Talise who finished with 2/9. Talise’s 2 wickets came from the last 2 balls she bowled, so I wonder if she can make it a hat-trick with her first ball this week. Games this weekend are: Friday: Under 12s vs Woodside Blue at Woodside Saturday: Under 14s vs Strathalbyn at Strathalbyn (1st week) A Grade vs Lenswood at Lenswood B Grade vs Lenswood at Birdwood Good luck to all grades.
01.01.2022 Last Saturday the under 14s played against Hahndorf who are currently second on the ladder. We batted first making a total of 81 runs. Thomas top scored with 20 runs which included a couple of fantastic sixes. He definitely would have gone on to make more runs if he didn’t have to retire on 20. Seth and Riley also batted well with Riley finishing on 11 not out (which included a couple fours). Hahndorf then batted and as all the bowlers were quite economical, it became very ha...rd for Hahndorf to score runs. It ended up a very close game with them narrowly beating us by 2 runs. There weren’t many wickets taken but there was a fabulous run out by Riley. It was great to have Lachy play in the under 14s which will hopefully happen more in the new year. The game this Saturday is against Nairne and is at Nairne # 2 oval. Good luck and enjoy the game.
01.01.2022 We're excited!! Cricket is back on this weekend. The junior games are as follows: Friday - Under 12s vs Woodside Red at Birdwood oval... Saturday - Under 14s vs Wistow at Lobethal oval Good luck to all teams playing this weekend. Hope you're all just as excited as we are!
01.01.2022 Reminder about the Bushfire Fundraiser tea this Saturday night. A delicious meal (including the famous home made sticky date puddings for dessert) whilst also supporting those affected by the fires. Hope you can make it.
01.01.2022 Last Friday night our under 12s played against Woodside Blue. Woodside batted first making a whopping 153 without a wicket falling. We then batted making 6/44. A big welcome to James, Nate and Katara who all played their first game this week. With Hahndorf having made 168 in the first week of the under 14s, we were looking for a good batting display. Jasper certainly did this making 50 not out. However, our final score after the 40 overs was 144, just short of what we needed.... The junior games this weekend are as follows: Friday - Under 12s vs Lobethal at Lobethal oval Saturday - Under 14s vs Woodside at Woodside oval (1st week) Good luck to all teams playing this weekend.
01.01.2022 Tea this Saturday night (22nd February) at the clubrooms is roast lamb/pork and gravy rolls and chips. See you there.
