20.01.2022 STORM SEASON IS COMING! ARE YOU PREPARED? Thunderstorm phobia is a very common issue with many dogs. Dogs with thunderstorm phobia may become destructive, frantic and highly stressed. The signs are usually obvious such as heavy panting, shaking and pacing. Some dogs may become clingier and seek more attention, others hiding in fear. ... This sort of behaviour can be subtle at first, however can worsen over time, becoming quite dangerous for your dog’s health and quality of life. It is important to try to address the phobia as soon as you notice any signs. Have you tried any of these tips? - Providing a safe and comfortable hiding place in your house, preferably the quietest room; - A crate with a soft bed inside and a blanket over the top to create a safe, dark and quiet place; - Playing music or white noise; or - Heavy blanket wrap or Thunder Shirt. - Closing the blinds/curtains - Securing your fences and backyard - Ensure your pets microchip details/collars/tags are up to date If so, and your dog is still suffering from thunderstorm phobia, please give us a call and book in a consultation to see one of our friendly vets. Please also note if your dog is already on medication for this issue, please ensure you have enough and call prior to needing more as we have had high demand over the last few days.
