25.01.2022 Anthurium scherzerianum 'Orange'.

25.01.2022 Interesting things happening in today's garden.

24.01.2022 White Bat plant and an Anthurium moodeanum leaf with the sun coming through.

23.01.2022 In the beginning and to think the only time any mechanical equipment was used was when the pool went in. No wonder our bones ache.

23.01.2022 My magnificent Amorphophallus titanum was looking really good this growing season. Then it went into it's dormant phase and stared to fall out of the pot. I then took it out and to my horror saw that it was only a fraction of the size it should of been and covered in rot. I have now scraped the rot off and will try the advised treatment with Alginox and copper. Fingers crossed.

23.01.2022 Posted a letter today addressed to the Chief Health Officer Queensland regarding opening our garden in January. Let's see what sort of response I get.

23.01.2022 Some of today's Caladiums.

21.01.2022 Ripsalis campos-portoana

19.01.2022 We would love to open our garden in November but will they let us? They will let 30K into a football match shortly so why not let a few hundred over two day's into a 4000 sm garden. Shopping Centre's are crowded as well as parks. Somehow I doubt we will be able to as we are not a business. Still playing it by ear.

19.01.2022 Amorphophallus tenuistyis.

18.01.2022 We have not had a good fall of rain for six months. We have had a few showers here and there but with the winds this week the place is very dry. Fortunately we still have some water in our tanks, hopefully it will rain soon.

18.01.2022 Judy has now filled the benches I made for her last week. Did not take her long.

18.01.2022 A few from today's garden.

17.01.2022 Will we have an Open garden this year is a question I am often asked. It's up to two main factors. 1: Too dry to open at the moment needing rain. 2: Have to wait and see what Covid restrictions are like in November. Perhaps if November is not an option then we may think about a possible opening in January if possible.... We have done virtually no presentation's or had bus trips this year but Judy has not stopped propagating her plants, so we will have a good stock of nice plants available. See more

17.01.2022 I have been painting house these last few days and had my first walk around the garden this afternoon. Could not believe how dry the place is. Tomorrow back to watering. Took some nice pictures though.

17.01.2022 We are still hoping to Open our garden in November but we just have to take each day as it comes. Judy has not stopped this year propagating some great plants. If we cannot open in November and Covid 19 restrictions were lifted after Christmas we may open late January, again it's a wait and see situation. Not much we can do about it.

16.01.2022 https://www.qld.gov.au//public-health/movements-gatherings There is no way can have an Open garden with these restrictions. I phoned the Covid hot line and the response was poor, only 40 people at one time. I asked if we could split our garden into two areas, the front for coffee and refreshments and the back for garden visitors. The response was no. I am prepared to do all the necessary covid safety requirements.... Shame as visiting a nice garden is a very therapeutic exercise and helps a good cause. See what January brings I suppose. See more

15.01.2022 Free Bromeliads. These are full sun and ready to be put into ground. They are situated on our front lawn at 5 Carlton Court, Birkdale. Help yourself. These sell for around the $60 mark so it's a real bargain.... Be quick. See more

15.01.2022 Big job re-potting my Amorphophallus collection. 850 litres of potting mix used.

14.01.2022 Thank you Peter Schnyder for this lasting memory of your dear Father Kasper who passed away last year. Sadly missed. Phaius tankervilleae.

14.01.2022 I just do not know when to stop. Out came the old shrubs and ground cover. In went a couple of sleepers and compost and soil all tilled. Still have to get more soil to finish. Then the fun of planting.

14.01.2022 It's that time of the year for this Bartlettina sordidi to flower.

13.01.2022 Amorphophallus laoticus. One of my favorites.

13.01.2022 Just letting you know I have made a few small changes to the Tropical Garden article below. Happy you seem to be enjoying it.

11.01.2022 Tropical Gardening I am not a horticulturist; I believe that practical gardening is learnt from experience and the mistakes we have all made over many years and who has not made those. What you get out of a book will never compete with this experience. The first and foremost thing needed to start a tropical garden is of course an over story of filtered light, so if you do not have that, it is going to take you a few years before you can start. Our over-story is unusual as it ...Continue reading

11.01.2022 BOM said we would get around 50 mills of rain today. What happened was 2 mills and gale winds. Needing rain badly.

08.01.2022 Nice Vanda Orchid out today.

07.01.2022 Aphelandra sinclairiana is not as stunning or as popular as the Tetragona but it is certainly worth while growing it in your garden. In flower now.

05.01.2022 My Amorphophallus collection is starting to wake up.

04.01.2022 Usually we sell Black Sapote fruit at our Open Garden but this year no Open Garden. If anyone wants fruit they can call around this coming weekend and pick some. They are massive and will be $1 each. There will be no entry into the garden.

03.01.2022 Interesting Heliconia rostrata yellow in flower now.

03.01.2022 Beautiful Vanda is only going to get better.

02.01.2022 At Oxley Garden Club giving a presentation. Nice to be back in the swing of things again.

02.01.2022 Some pictures from today's garden. Comments on photos.

02.01.2022 This garden was opposite our rear patio and the Foxtail Palms x four were getting dangerous with fronds falling. Decision made to take them down, great job by Joi-in's Tree Lopping, good price and excellent work. Today I dug out all the Bromeliads ect and we can actually see the swimming pool from the house. I am hiring a stump grinder later this week and when finished going to put in a few Christmas Palms and Alcantarea Bromeliads. Quite pleased with the way it's going.

02.01.2022 We had four large Palms taken down today as they were quite dangerous when a heavy frond fell down. The guy who did the job was great and he cleaned up well after finishing. I highly recommend him. His price was also good. Johns Tree Lopping Service 0413028901.

01.01.2022 It's that time of the year where the Aphelandra tetragona put on this wonderful show of colour. A must have in your garden.
