25.01.2022 An absolute pleasure. Thanks to Lena and Tash for your work in bringing out such a fabulous group of students!

25.01.2022 One of the greatest benefits of Birrigai’s ‘Deadly Mob’ program is the dynamic of the older students of the group developing their mentorship through taking on a leadership role and helping their younger counterparts take on challenge. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Torrens Primary School showed that in spades yesterday whilst connecting with Country and culture.

25.01.2022 Today was a wonderful day with the 5/6 students from Bonython Primary School who were learning about grass trees and the aboriginal use of grass tree resin as a powerful adhesive in tool making. Students also got to try their hand at seed grinding as they learnt to make damper. The students were more than ably supported by Birrigai’s Aboriginal Land Manager, and Aboriginal Liaison Officer. 23.01.2022 Gordon Primary School students in years 2-4 spent today in the 1800s, experiencing the roles played by different explorers looking for land to expand the colonies into. This program sparks much conversation around the plight of Aboriginal Peoples in this time period, and an appreciation and respect for the incredible knowledge held by them about Country, its care and resources. In the words of one student today, How different it would have maybe been if we’d listened and learned from them back then instead of being so mean.

23.01.2022 Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves- Natural historian, author Stephen Moss Holy Family Primary, Gowrie year 3 students experiencing nature at Birrigai’s wetlands.

22.01.2022 Even the rain couldn't keep the grins off these student's faces. Hoping Birrigai helped make up for the Year 6 cohort missing out on their usual camp this year.

19.01.2022 The Curtin Primary School Red Wombat and Yellow Possum preschoolers joined Birrigai on the Wombat Songlines program today. Journeying through the bush, learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge sharing and story telling traditions, cooking damper on a campfire and spending time exploring Birrigai on Country made for a wonderful day.

19.01.2022 Year 3 students from Duffy PS made some amazing shelters today as part of a program exploring the ingenuity and science principles used for thousands of years in traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander shelters. They experimented using materials from the natural environment to build shelters to protect them from different weather and environmental factors.

19.01.2022 We loved having you Yarralumla students and staff!

19.01.2022 We can’t wait to do it all again with you on Wednesday!

17.01.2022 Risk permits children to push themselves to the limits of their capacities and encourages them to progress. Rising to challenges, embracing risks and taking an I can do attitude are important characteristics of effective learners. Risk and Play, Josie Gleave, 2008 Most children are naturally great risk assessors, but increasingly have opportunity for risk stifled. Birrigai programs like those Gordon Primary School students have engaged in the past two days are not only de...signed to support curriculum learning area outcomes. Importantly, they provide opportunity and empower students to engage in risk assessment, and make measured decisions to plan and enact response. No wonder that learning for Gordon PS students was so fun-filled!

14.01.2022 It’s been trying very hard to snow the past two days at Birrigai. We look forward to a blanket of it falling this weekend before sunshine and clear skies to welcome incoming groups next week Stay warm everyone!

14.01.2022 Great weather to greet Holy Family Primary, Gowrie Year 3 students today. It's been an action packed day 1 and we look forward to more learning fun tomorrow!

13.01.2022 Thanks Birrigai! A great day exploring, learning how to start a campfire, building shelters and cooking damper! What a great day 2/3CV and 3/4RAM had outdoors!

12.01.2022 We welcome all program feedback, but this was a lovely surprise in the mail this week. Thank you St. Jude’s Primary!

12.01.2022 Year 3 Camp Update: Another busy morning this morning as they continued their activities. With children getting an average of 24 000 steps yesterday and already... at 9000 this morning, we are sure there will be some exhausted children tonight. A huge shout out to Birrigai staff who have tailored programs specifically for our students to relate to and extend their learning from this year. Our bus will be due back to school between 2:35-2:45 ready for a normal pick up. See more

11.01.2022 Learning about caring for Country through the practice of cultural burning from Ngalan, Birrigai’s Aboriginal Facilities and Land Management Officer, was just one activity Year 5/6 students from Yarralumla Primary School ACT Education Directorate enjoyed in beautiful sunshine today. Ngalan also demonstrated to students how resin from the local grass trees is traditionally worked with heat to create a glue for use in making stone tools.

09.01.2022 WATERFALLS @ BIRRIGAI With all the recent lovely rain we have some Waterfalls at Birrigai. We hope you enjoy them.

08.01.2022 Year 5 students from St Jude’s Primary School explored the hard life of a miner and all the injustices of the goldfields during their simulation activity this afternoon. The creek flowing just made it even more realistic!

08.01.2022 It’s been a massive week of experiential learning at Birrigai. Nine schools, from preschools to Year 10 participating in day programs the past 5 days. Pictured is Bonython Primary School - ACT Year 3/4 students who engaged all their senses connecting with Country on a bushwalk prior to completing landscape writing with a view.

04.01.2022 SONGLINE PROGRAM Yesterday Curtin Preschool’s Blue Emus participated in Birrigai’s very exciting new Early Childhood Wombat Songline Program. This is a pilot program aimed at integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures while connecting early childhood student to Ngunnawal County. ACT Public Schools Curtin Primary School

03.01.2022 We saw some terrific landscape writing, fire making and ephemeral art from these Year 3/4 students yesterday.

03.01.2022 St Anthony's Primary School Year 5 students discovering the trials and tribulations of being a gold prospector in the 1800s. Favourite quote from one student -Birrigai is our school’s bush play on steroids. So much learning happens intentionally and inadvertently for students participating on Birrigai programs - an utter joy to witness.

02.01.2022 Sensational students on a sensational day! The Birrigai teachers working with these Fadden Primary School students were impressed with their enthusiasm, engagement and energy yesterday....and their teachers!

01.01.2022 A snapshot of the week so far at Birrigai. Featured are students from Erindale College, Canberra, Orana Steiner School and Chapman Primary School, just 3 of the 5 schools who have enjoyed sensational weather for programs this week.
