23.01.2022 What’s in my doula bag: Over the last few years I’ve really narrowed down what I use at a birth. My two most frequently used items - my hands and intuition ... It’s nice to have items in my doula bag, but I don’t always use them, somethings are essential- like water and others handy to have - like hair ties. Essentially it’s all about the support not the tools in my bag. Head over to my stories to see whats in my bag if your curious

22.01.2022 What is birth to you?....... We all think of birth in a different way. For some it's a powerful and empowering time, for others it can be a scary and nervous time. How we feel about birth can be dramatically changed by what we know, how we feel, how we are supported and most importantly if we are being heard and listened to during birth. I want women to feel confident, empowered and supported during their birth - to give birth WITH confidence!... Birth is normal, Birth is amazing, Birth is empowering! Today I want to ask you, what is birth to you? #birthabilityeducation #centralcoast #childbirtheducation #lamaze #lamazechildbirtheducator #centralcoastbirtheducator #centralcoastbirth #centralcoastchildbirth #whatisbirth #birthstories #birthisnormal #birthisbeautiful #normalisebirth

18.01.2022 @yarli_creative This image represents the birth story of all who came before me. It represents those who are to come. The symbol at the top is a woman. Strong.... Staunch. Powerful. Under this woman is her uterus. The most powerful organ of all. The creator of life. The birth giver. Incredible. Each ovary is a flowering gum of a Eucalyptus tree. Those beautiful eucalypts which line the Dungula (Murray River in Yorta Yorta language). Strong and resilient trees, holding thousands of years of stories and power. The strong line of the Matriarch. The symbols being born from these ovaries are stars (my Ancestors) and those who came before. #womenshealth #aboriginalartist #aboriginalhealing #aboriginalart #yarlicreative #empoweringwomen #melbfringe

10.01.2022 Why Home? Homebirth is an incredible birth option, providing one of the only ways to truly access continuity of care with a known midwife for pregnancy, birth and postpartum in Australia! For low risk pregnancies, homebirth improves outcomes for mothers and babies Homebirth has not been a mainstream option for childbirth in Australia for many decades. In 2001, privately practising midwives providing a homebirth service were unable to obtain professional indemnity insurance ...owing to a collapse of the international insurance industry, and this significantly reduced the numbers of midwives who offered homebirth. These factors and a lack of government funding have meant that access to homebirth for Australian women has been extremely limited. Consumers and midwives, however, have vocally demanded such an option - yet the demands have still not be heard. One of the biggest myths perpetuated is that birthing at home is an unsafe practice, However research has shown again and again that planned homebirth is safe for low risk women. Reasons women are choosing to birth at home are: - Continuity of care from one or two known midwives (during a hospital birth, usually unknown midwives intermittently care for the labouring person, an obstetrician may be called) - Reduce the risk of interventions and further complications - Labouring and birthing in the comfort and privacy of home - Less risk of infection. - Other children/family can be involved - Recent hospital restictions due to COVID-19 - Previous traumatic birth or incident at hospital or staff - Lack of access to MGP care Ref: Maternal outcomes and birth interventions among women who begin labour intending to give birth at home compared to women of low obstetrical risk who intend to give birth in hospital: A systematic review and meta-analyses:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eclinm.2020.100319
