25.01.2022 I had the absolute pleasure of recently teaching my class series to an incredible couple privately. They now feel confident and calm about the birth of their first child and how to prepare for the process. Feeling so blessed to be apart of their journey and they even surprised me with a (completely unnecessary) lovely gift! ... #hypnobirthinginternational #hypnobirthing #confidentbirth #birth #birthclass #postivebirth

22.01.2022 A little about me and why I created Birth By You I’m Sharon Born and raised in Mildura and I love our town and what it has to offer. I live for the sun, outdoors, good food, animals, time with my family and friends, my lover and my little princess. I’m currently pregnant and expecting the arrival of my second angel girl in December.... My passion developed for pregnancy, birth and the transition to parenthood from my own personal transformation with those three stages. Growing up I was exposed somewhat to birth from people around me as well as on TV shows etc. and I developed the program of fear and avoidance for the actual birth of a baby. From becoming pregnant with my first daughter, finding my power and becoming very aware of my choices and discovering techniques to deal with the uncertainty of birth, I am so proud to share I had the most amazing birth experience. I was in shock and still am to this very moment thinking back to what I watched my body achieve and how we navigated through labour and birth, it changed my life. There were two feelings in my heart that I had never felt before that came after my daughter was born. First, the love for my own child, it is like no other love I have ever known and second, a fire that ignited inside of me, a fire of absolute certainty that I had to pursue building a career that would help parents acknowledge and embrace their power. If you had told me even a year before my daughter was born about this incredible birth and how proud and excited I would be to birth and share my experience, I would never have believed you. There are no words to fully describe what I now know birth to be but if I had to pick a few, birth to me is nothing short of honourable, sacred, empowering, life changing and incredible. 18.01.2022 An amazing birth pioneer, Dr. Grant Dick-Read explored how much of an impact fear can play in child birth. As a practicing physician in the 1900’s, he practiced as many other physicians of his time did, he frequently administered pain relief during childbirth in the form of chloroform. In the early 1900s, birth began moving from the home to hospitals and there was a belief all women would benefit from pain relief. Why feel contractions if you don’t have to? ... What many didn’t realize was how complex normal birth physiology was, and how facilitating normal birth physiology improved outcomes for both mother and baby. Initially, the benefits and risks of anesthetics during labor hadn’t been properly weighed up. One could also argue that we still don’t always properly weigh up the risks and benefits of elective birth interventions, making his work just as relevant today. Dr Dick Read begun researching pain relief free child birth when he encountered a woman who declined chloroform and went on to have a birth she perceived as not painful. In studying birth, he developed the fear-tension-pain syndrome theory. The fear-tension-pain theory referred to the belief that the fear of childbirth can lead to tensing up in anticipation of contractions, and this tension leads to more perceived pain due to the physiological impact of fear. He believed proper prenatal education, reducing fear, and breathing to release tension is a vital part of natural childbirth.

15.01.2022 I’m currently 38 weeks and my birth ball is where I plan to spend a lot of time leading up to labour and most likely I will rely heavily on it during labour too(again). Benefits of the birth ball in pregnancy can be: Relief of back pain, stress, and pelvic or abdominal pain More comfortable sitting position... Sitting regularly on the ball can promote the opening of the pelvic muscles, allowing room for the baby in preparation for birth Encouraging your baby into a great position for birth Sitting on couches and chairs that are designed poorly can be discouraging for babies positioning and cause tightness in your body, especially your pelvic area - so the use of the birth ball can help avoid this Promotes great posture Benefits of the birth ball in labour can be: Rocking your pelvis back and forth, and side to side can help shift the body into good spinal and pelvic alignment Ease discomfort While on your knees, leaning on the birth ball can help with back pain and in this position gravity can help encourage the baby’s head downwards. Your partner or doula can massage your back for further comfort here too. Gentle bouncing, swaying or anything that feels right These are just some of the advantages. They are so verstile and can be used in many ways. Always allow your body to lead you to the most secure and comfortable position for you. If something doesn’t feel right, change it up. Listening to your body can be one of the best tools - it knows what you and your baby need! *After birth there are also many benefits with birth balls around recovery and developing strength in a soft and gentle way too.

12.01.2022 "Vernix Caseosa. Did you know that this incredible substance serves so many purposes?! It is a white, creamy biofilm that appears in the last trimester produced in part by fetal sebaceous glands. It is unique to humans! It acts as protection for the baby’s skin. It’s akin to Shea butter in texture. (Could you imagine soaking in water for 9 months? This stuff creates a barrier between the water and the skin. Genius!) It acts as an insulator, keeping in warmth. When lef...t on the skin to be absorbed, helps the skin transition to a land environment by providing moisture and reducing the rate of skin dehydration. Often seen in babies born before 40 weeks but that is just the average, some babies have little to none before 40 weeks and some babies are frosted at 42 weeks. It has its own microbiome! It contains oils and antibiotic peptides. An anti-microbial barrier of sorts! Plus, it is seeded by beneficial bacteria from the birth canal. The vernix within amniotic fluid when swallowed by the fetus has potential effects on the developing gut! There are loads more magical facts all about vernix!"
