24.01.2022 This is a photo of my daughter Jasmine on the 29th of April 2020. The look on her face literally says it all, of absolute joy, surprise and love After labouring at home for 9 hours and then heading to the hospital with only an hour to spare, Her beautiful baby girl swam into her arms. My daughter is a powerful goddess!!! ... She knew that there might be decisions to make however, Jaz and her husband Matt were equipped with knowledge, prepared with technics and options to get her through. Whatever decisions that needed to be made, she understood them, they were her choices. Don't be scared in these times mummas Prepare yourself with knowledge Knowledge is power !!!

23.01.2022 Today and most days l am thinking of mums and how they can have easy access to a network of people within their community. I do like the saying that it takes a village to raise a mother, but sometimes it's hard for a mum to find the people that they are looking for when they are tired, overwhelmed or just not knowing what's out their in the community, it's hard ! If you offer or know of a business that offers women prenatal or postnatal services within the Byron Shire please... tag it here or DM me. I would like to create a network for mum's that is easy and accessible. 18.01.2022 My grandchildren, family, friends and women around the world inspire me every day towards my passion for women's health and wellbeing. I feel that it is more important than ever before that women are supported and have access to up to date, evidence-based childbirth education. Your birthing experience is a life time memory that stays with you forever. This is why l teach the positive birth program. l want women to make their own informed choices for their birth based on know...ledge and not based on fear however their birth unfolds. 18.01.2022 Imagine being 75 and you’re sat thinking about your life and how you never went swimming in the ocean on a warm night because your thighs jiggled. Imagine reali...sing you never laughed until you couldn’t breathe because your teeth weren’t straight or white enough. You never embraced the sun on the beach because of the stretch marks on your stomach and your hips. You never allowed yourself to let go and have fun because the pressure to look perfect consumed you. Imagine being 75 and realising you’ve hidden yourself away for the fear of being real. Imagine realising all the years you wasted hating yourself, but now it’s too late to go swim in the ocean late at night. Now it hurts to laugh for more than a few seconds and you’re too weak to travel to the beach. Imagine realising all this time you were perfect the way you were, but now it’s too late to do anything about it. Don’t let that happen. Live now, as you are. You deserve to realise you’re enough, and always have been, before you’re 75. See more

17.01.2022 When l read this ,l loved this, l have attended a birth as a doula wihist a midwife softly sung a baby earthside. it is such a strong message about belonging and identity Of all the African tribes still alive today, the Himba tribe is one of the few that counts the birth date of the children not from the day they are born nor conceived but the day the mother decides to have the child. When a Himba woman decides to have a child, she goes off and sits under a tree, by herse...lf, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child who wants to come. And after she's heard the song of this child, she comes back to the man who will be the child's father, and teaches him the song. When they make love to physically conceive the child, they sing the song of the child as a way of inviting the child. When she becomes pregnant, the mother teaches that child's song to the midwives and the old women of the village, so that when the child is born, the old women and the people gather around him/her and sing the child's song to welcome him/her. As the child grows up, the other villagers are taught the child's song. If the child falls, or gets hurt, someone picks him/her up and sings to him/her his/her song. Or maybe when the child does something wonderful, or goes through the rites of puberty, then as a way of honoring this person, the people of the village sing his or her song. In the Himba tribe there is one other occasion when the "child song" is sang to the Himba tribesperson. If a Himba tribesman or tribeswoman commits a crime or something that is against the Himba social norms, the villagers call him or her into the centre of the village and the community forms a circle around him/her. Then they sing his/her birth song to him/her. The Himba views correction not as a punishment, but as love and remembrance of identity. For when you recognise your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another. In marriage, the songs are sung, together. And finally, when the Himba tribesman/tribeswoman is lying in his/her bed, ready to die, all the villagers that know his or her song come and sing - for the last time. #Repost @greatmother_co

16.01.2022 It’s never too soon to start bonding with your baby! Even during pregnancy, you can begin to build a bond before birth. Some common ways to start building this bond are: - Talking, reading or singing to your baby- they love to hear your voice! - Music & dance - vibrating together to music or a gentle sway can help you connect in a carefree way. - Meditating or yoga - connect with your body and baby. Take deep calming breaths as you focus on connecting, and your baby in turn w...ill focus on your rhythmic heart beat. - Journal! Keep a diary of your pregnancy to help you reflect and check in. This is also something which can be a beautiful memory to share with your child when they grow. Regardless what works for you, enjoy this precious time together - you are already a parent! #Repost @binibirth @mammafolk

15.01.2022 The pandemic for me has been like a reset button. Through out isolation l spent many hours sitting on our outside couch chatting with my daughter who had just come back from spending two years in Germany. I cooked for my eldest daughter In the few weeks leading up to her birth, and became a grandmother for the second time. ... l made adjustments to how l was supporting mamas and started running zoom birth preparation sessions. This opened a whole new chapter for me, opening my eyes to exactly how much l love holding birth education sessions, listening to mums and their birth visions. l love to hear how their partners want to be involved, l love sharing my knowledge with tips and tools on how to get mums through each stage of labour. As a result, I have now taken on the path as a childbirth educator. 14.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW that when dads have skin to skin time with bub it literally REWIRES their brain! It leads to an increase in dopamine (the feel good hormone) and oxytocin (the love hormone) which helps dads bond with their baby and kick starts their parenting instincts. Will you be planning on your birth partner getting skin to skin time with your baby? I always say a good time for dads to do this is when mum is having a shower (usually about an hour or two after the birth).... #Repost @the.birth.collective @mjfbirthphotography #dadlife #hypnobirthing #hypnobirthingaustralia #skintoskin #bondingwithbaby #oxytocin #oxytocinboosting #positivebirth #dadsofinstagram

13.01.2022 Most depictions of birth in mainstream media is a woman in bed, almost always on her back, looking distressed, flushed and shouting at everybody. This scene is dramatic, incites fear and is well suited for the purpose of Hollywood, but falls short of reflecting reality. Many labours are actually fairly quiet experiences. Women often go inwards as they focus intensely on the contractions and become unable to communicate as normal, sometimes choosing to look down or bury their head. If your partner is in labour, and starts ignoring you, don’t get offended. It’s a good sign! Baby is on the way, and she is in the zone #Repost @birthwithbeth_ (@get_repost #labour #birthmyths #childbirtheducation #birthpositions

10.01.2022 Visualisation is such a strong tool. When you can visualise what your body is doing in labour and you understand the process of birth you can then work with your body not against it. Just like an athlete that is preparing for a marathon you can prepare for your birth. An athlete doesn't go into a race without preparation, they prepare their mind and their body months before hand. They prepare for the finish line through preparation, exercising and visualisation. ... Everyone is different on what resonates with them, you might visualise a colour surrounding you or you might visualise your uterus working and functioning while you are having surges (contractions) it might be the gentle waves of the ocean drawing you up and over the wave. The Hypnobirthing Australia course that l teach includes beautiful visualisation tracks such as surge of the sea and rainbow mist. We use these tracks to start preparing our mind and body for birth. Preparation is key Mama's If you have used visualisation before in birth what worked for you ? 10.01.2022 Great podcast Nurture Hub !! If you are an expecting mamma, Please listen to Nurture Hub's podcast interview with Dr Rachel Reed. I was fortunate enough to attend Dr Rachel Reeds talk last year at Goldcoast university hospital, it was so insightful and empowering.... Knowledge is power #Repost @belly2birth (@get_repost) Up to 43% of women in Australia with normal healthy pregnancies are having their labour induced in Australia.... if you didn’t GASP at that statistic then I really encourage you to listen to our latest Nurture Hub podcast interview with Dr Rachel Reed from @midwifethinking . We need to start asking questions as to why so many women are being pressured into induction when there are no signs of complications in their pregnancies but the only way you can know what your options are is through empowering yourself through education. . This interview is a huge eye opener for all pregnant mums about the importance of knowing your options and our rights to also be given all of the information to make an informed decision that is based of evidence based information not just off Hospital policies. . As I affirm in this interview there is always a time and place for western medicine but what you need to also learn is how your body works and how to work with your body and that’s exactly the kind of education you get within one of my @hypnobirthingaustralia courses. . You only get one chance to birth your baby and I would love to help you prepare for your birth. . 07.01.2022 I love this post from a beautiful mamma that l spent time with in Bali Blessings throughout the day the invite to pause the slowing of time... cocooning I will forever cherish laying side by side his starfish hand on my heart and warm feet on my thighs There’s so much out there about how nourishing and nutritious breastmilk is, and yet I find myself in awe of the nourishment it’s given to my heart and soul...and the comfort it is able to provide to both parties. My #breastfeeding journey has had its share of challenges along the way. I struggled mainly with clogged ducts, a bout of mastitis and the pressure of feeling the need to stop breastsleeping (I love that term!), but now at 7+ months, I’M EMBRACING IT ALL: the cuddles, the intimacy, what feels light to me and just flow with our unique MotherBaby rhythm. 05.01.2022 Have a close look I find this illustration so useful!! Did you know labour is less about your cervix opening and more about the thickness and contracting power of the uterus moving baby down and out? Read more about what empowering birth expert Carla Hartley has to say about this revelatory perspective in birth physiology - it’s such valuable information. . We think in pictures and we should be painting accurate pictures. The cervix nor the vagina bloom. The cervix is not ...a zip lock bag. The purpose of labor is NOT the creation of an opening or a hole... The purpose of labor contractions and retractions is to BUILD the fundus, which will, when it is ready, EJECT the baby, like a piston. Without a nice thick fundus there is no power to get baby out....the cervix does not dilate out....it dilates UP as a result of the effort to pull muscles up into the uterus to push muscles up to the fundus. The cervical dilation is secondary to that. The cervix is pulled up as a result of the building of the fundus. Assigning a number to cervical dilation is of little consequence and we make a huge mistake by interpreting progress or predicting time of birth to that number. Any experienced midwife or OB can tell you that the cervix can be manipulated and that a woman whose cervix is at 7 could have the baby in a few minutes or a few hours. If more providers and educators knew the truth about birth physiology, we could make a huge difference for mothers. What is important is to keep her well supported for the purpose of the appropriate chemistry, to keep her well hydrated and nourished for muscle strength, and to believe in her. We should be supporting her so that her physiology and that of her baby are unhindered, so they can finish what they started. We should not be measuring, poking, or interpreting her labor. THIS CHANGE in teaching about labor could make such a difference for women who are imagining what is happening in their bodies during labour. How much more strength might they have if they have an accurate picture?" -Carla Hartley . .#Repost @thepositivebirthmethod . . #birtheducation #thepositivebirthmethod #empoweredbirth #mindfulbirthing #carlahartley via See more
