19.01.2022 Well here we are nearly a whole year of demand feeding anytime & anywhere, tired eyes with bags to my knees & that pesky leaky right boob. My intention is to feed until 2.5 or 3 years depending on when Luna is ready to finish up, she will be my guide. Both my breastfeeding journeys have been amazing, despite both my babies having lip & tongue ties I’ve never had problems with latching, low milk supply, mastitis or nipple pain. Yes I’m extremely grateful for this, a tad lucky ...maybe but also I did a heap of breastfeeding preparation just like birth preparation to set me up for success. Unfortunately breastfeeding preparation is never spoken about and this can leave women confused, unsupported, sore & feel like giving up post birth. So here are my top tips for preparing & creating a positive breastfeeding experience. 1. Set an intention while your pregnant that you will breastfeed. Be mindful of your words/thoughts on breastfeeding as they can create your reality. Just like birth stories from others can impact us so too can those breastfeeding stories, remember those aren’t your story. 2. Sign up to the Australian Breastfeeding Association who are on call 24/7. 3. Go to an Australian Breastfeeding Association class while your pregnant. 4. Contact & link up with a lactation consultant so you can call them ASAP with any issues. 5. Allow your baby to do the breast crawl & latch on its own after birth, this is a game changer & you can do this for at least 2 weeks after birth. 6. Go to a chiropractor, especially if you have had an instrumental delivery & trauma. 7. Reduce your stress, reduce visitors over the first few weeks & raise your oxytocin. 8. Drink lots of water, every time you breastfeed drink water and eat warming healthy foods which support breast milk production. 9. Feed on demand, especially the first 6 weeks. 10. Don’t use a dummy/bottle especially the first 6 weeks as can cause nipple confusion. 11. Have at least 2 hours skin to skin after birth and then lots of skin to skin in the first 6 weeks after birth. 12. Know hunger cues, latch & feed before crying. 13. Trust your gut over anyone else’s advise and seek out breastfeeding professional.

14.01.2022 We generally have two choices in life. We take action to create a desired outcome or we do nothing leaving the outcome to chance. When we plan a wedding, buy a house, start a side hustle or an overseas trip we take action to create the outcome, yes sometimes things don’t always go to plan but we have tools to deal with this. So I’m still totally perplexed as to why we leave the most transformational day of our life to chance?!... My wish for you is that this above list encourages you to take some inspired action to create your best birth. #birthpreparation #mindset #mindsettools #birthmindset #hypnobirthing #selfcare #pregnancy #birth #action #positivebirth #calmbirth #empoweredbirth #birthready #loveyourbirth

13.01.2022 On May 5th we celebrate International Day of the Midwife and pay tribute to those amazing midwives who have supported our birth journeys. I have been incredibly blessed to have Maria, Steph & Rosie from @myownmidwifegc support me during my births both at hospital for River and at home for Luna. To me nothing beats having either a private midwife or birth centre midwife who provides continuity of care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, who you build a relationship and tru...st with, who will advocate for you and your baby and do anything to support you to have the birth you desire. I’m so grateful to these amazing midwives who made me feel safe, seen and heard on both of my birth journeys, they wouldn’t have been the same without them. Thank you to all the amazing midwives out there supporting women in the most transformational day of their lives as they bring life into this world . @the_birth_day . #internationaldayofthemidwife #midwivesmakeadifference #homebirth #contunuityofcare #hypnobirthinginternational #waterbirth #knowyourmidwife #birthpreparation #birthteam #birthsupport #yourbirthmatters #hospitalbirth #birthcentre #midwiferycare #grateful #birthjourney

12.01.2022 Going into labour can be an exciting time but early labour can sometimes be a long process, especially for first time mums. These are my favorite tips for early labour. 1. If you go into labour during the night, stay in bed sleeping or resting while listening to relaxing music/rainbow relaxation for as long as comfortable to lie down. 2. Stay upright, go for a walk, do some housework or bounce on the fit ball and let gravity help you. 3. Drink water/coconut water/raspberry l...eaf tea and stay hydrated. 4. Eat small nutritious snacks that will give you energy for labour. 5. Be affectionate with your partner, cuddle, kiss, hold each other and keep the oxytocin flowing. 6. Sway and move your hips while you listen to music, lean on your partner or sit on the fit ball. 7. Have a relaxing shower or bath with clary sage in diffuser and gentle music. 8. Stay calm, relaxed and positive by listening to relaxing music, reading affirmations or listening to the rainbow relaxation. 9. Have your partner practice light touch massage on your back, arms & neck while you bounce gently on the fit ball. 10. Stay at home as long as you feel comfortable or until your surges last for 1 minute, are 3 minutes apart and have been like this for 2 hours. 11. If your in labour during the day make your house/room dark and cosy. #labour #earlylabour #labourtips #hypnobirthing #homebirth #positivebirth #empowerebirth #waterbirth #landbirth #birthcentre #birthpreparation #affirmations #oxytocin #relaxation #yourbestbirth

10.01.2022 If you are a new mama in Melbourne or know someone in Melbourne who has just had a baby and needs some support then pass on these details. So vital for new mamas, especially those who are having babies in lockdown to have the support they need as they navigate the new motherhood journey.

09.01.2022 Here are the maternal health outcomes from the systematic review/meta-analysis undertaken by Eileen Hutton and colleagues on homebirth outcomes. The baby outcomes were published last year. This is data from 500,000 planned home births. The results speak for themselves. For women homebirth is clearly much safer and not to recognise this shows exactly how little we value women in this debate. Women are: -nearly half as likely to have a C/S and third and fourth degree perineal ...tear -more than half as likely to have an epidural, augmentation of labour, episiotomy, forceps or vacuum birth and maternal infection -less or no difference in PPH "16 studies provided data from ~500,000 intended home births for the meta-analyses. There were no reported maternal deaths. When controlling for parity in well-integrated settings we found women intending to give birth at home compared to hospital were less likely to experience: caesarean section OR 0.58(0.44,0.77); operative vaginal birth OR 0.42(0.23,0.76); epidural analgesia OR 0.30(0.24,0.38); episiotomy OR 0.45(0.28,0.73); 3rd or 4th degree tear OR 0.57(0.43,0.75); oxytocin augmentation OR 0.37(0.26,0.51) and maternal infection OR 0.23(0.15,0.35). Pooled results for postpartum haemorrhage showed women intending home births were either less likely or did not differ from those intending hospital birth [OR 0.66(0.54,0.80) and RR 1.30(0.79,2.13) from 2 studies that could not be pooled with the others]. Similar results were found when data were stratified by parity and by degree of integration into health systems."

08.01.2022 What an amazing service for pregnant women and new mothers. Please if your in Australia and need support reach out to them

08.01.2022 I used My Own Midwife for the birth of both of my babies, having a home birth made me feel so safe and comfortable. There is a no greater time than now to invest in your birth, your baby and yourself.

07.01.2022 The BRAINS acronym is something that we teach during HypnoBirthing to empower couples to be able to make informed decisions about medical advice, interventions or anything else that is being offered to them. I like to use this when going to the GP or even the naturopath so that I can make informed decisions about things they are prescribing me or suggestions they are making. I feel that at this time this acronym is even more important to know as many decisions during pregnanc...y and birth might be made from a place of fear from both the medical intuitions and pregnant couples. Coming back to this acronym when a suggestion is made enables to you feel like you are making informed choices instead of being pushed into something you might not want to do or know about. I’m clearly not talking about medical emergencies here either. For some reason we have been told not to ask questions, that these people because of their knowledge hold some sort of power over us but no one knows your body and baby they way you do. Questioning things doesn’t make you rude it makes you an active and informed participant in what is going to be happening to YOUR body and baby. I’ll post a video tomorrow about different scenarios that you can use this in. #informedbirth #empowerdbirth #questioneverything #hypnobirthing #birthsupport #birthmatters #informedconsent #birthpreparation #birthplan #continuityofcare #homebirth #birthcentre #covidwhilepregnant

07.01.2022 Its Birth Trauma Awareness Week and sadly 1 in 3 women experience birth trauma. We have conditioned to believe that an alive mother and baby is all that matters but it doesn’t, because how you birth matters mentally, emotionally & physically. Birth trauma doesn’t only impact the birthing mother but also babies, fathers, partners, families and birth workers. If you have experienced birth trauma you deserve to be able to share your experience, to be heard, held and also know how to heal it. This can be a very sensitive and triggering topic, my heart goes out to everyone who has experienced birth trauma and continues to live it. If you have experienced birth trauma or know someone who has than I encourage you to watch this amazing livestream delivered by many health professionals with vast experience in this area.

06.01.2022 I can’t believe it, today one year ago was my estimated due date, it was such a beautiful day, totally opposite to the cold, wind & rain we are having on the Gold Coast today. I remember my due date so vividly because it was such a beautiful day, I spent the morning meditating, doing yoga and connecting with my baby before going swimming with Guy & River at our favorite spot, sitting in the sunshine and swimming in the crystal clear water. I then came home & made a smoothie a...nd drank it in my little nook with the sunshine warming my back wondering if my baby would be part of the 5% that come on their due date. That morning when I connected with my baby I reminded it that our home birth midwife who was my midwife with River was moving onto a different job this day & if the baby wanted her it would need to come today. I remember in this moment drinking my smoothie in the sunshine how at peace I was emotionally, physically, spiritually & mentally which is a stark contrast to now. I felt comfortable and confident in my physical self, my skin was clear and glowing, I never needed make up when I was pregnant, I was well rested, my hair was thick, I made the time & put in effort to nourish my body with both food & movement, my cup was overflowing. However sitting there little did I know that my Luna Heart was going to wait another 13 days before coming earth side sending my on an emotional roller coaster of fear, sadness & surrender. Even though I teach HypnoBirthing & know babies come when they are ready surrendering to this can still be challenging especially with those crazy hormones. There were mornings that I would wake at 5am not in labour and just cry & cry. I would then get up, write out my fears that were coming up, burn them to release them & do a fear release hypnosis. Finally, one day shy of 42 weeks after a shit tonne of acupressure and acupuncture, the day when I would have needed to look at navigating my birth differently and the day I agreed to a stretch & sweep, I woke up in labour. Tears of happiness & relief streamed down my face as I threw my head back thanking the gods while I cradling my belly knowing that I would soon be holding my baby.

06.01.2022 Amazing post with fantastic tips surrounding sleep and your baby

05.01.2022 If your pregnant and birthing during this pandemic this is a beautiful way to look at it

05.01.2022 The golden hour, the most precious one, skin to skin, breast crawl and bonding. Everything else can wait.

03.01.2022 I don’t spend much time on Facebook but I wanted to share with you that this is going to be my last post for a while. I feel the calling to disconnect and go inward. Six years ago when I moved to the Gold Coast I felt confident, knew what I liked, who I was and what I wanted in my life. After six years of constant social media, two pregnancies and two children I feel totally disconnected from who it is I am, I feel like I don’t know myself anymore, what I like or what I want ...for my life. I feel that the scrolling, comparing, judging, bombardment of information, advertisement, projecting & over thinking has slowly over time disconnected me from my true self and created so much noise in my head, so much so I don’t even know what clothes I like to wear anymore!! I feel ridiculous even posting this, my rational brain keeps trying to tell me it’s no big deal and to just keep it going but it is a big deal because for me it’s an addiction, a coping mechanism and distraction. I feel a strong resistance in taking a break and to be honest I’m scared to take a break for many reasons, one is because I love connecting and helping women prepare for their birth but my intuition is guiding me and I’m excited to see what could possibly unfold over the coming months as I create space in my life where social media once was. There have been lots of things emerging for me over the past few months which is sending me on this path. One of those was being focused on starting either a podcast or writing an online course around birth when Luna turned 1 but realized that the foundation to create a business isn’t strong, that to build a business that I first need to work on my relationship with myself, my husband and that my babies still need me so much, then once the foundation is strong build upwards from there. I wish I could be one of those many amazing women online who can do it all but for now I can’t, it’s not my time and really what’s important to me is soaking up this precious time with my babies while they are still little. I need this space to work out what really matters in my world and what my truths are to work out where I want to go in my life without the influence of social media. Im sharing this because others might be feeling the same and I want you to know your not alone I’m feeling disconnected from yourself. I also want to let you know I am still here for support on all things birth but please email me at [email protected]. So as of today I’m logging out, deactivating & deleting my social media apps as of 6pm today. I’m going to focus my energy’s on nurturing myself, being present with my children, loving on my husband & allowing life to unfold without the busy outside noise. Sending lots of love and big hugs to everyone especially those pregnant mamas birthing soon x See more

02.01.2022 Use your BRAINS to make informed decisions. In this video I’m sharing 3 examples of when and how you can use the BRAINS acronym with your care provider. If you don’t know this acronym and are pregnant now is the best time for you and your birth partner to start using it, especially during these uncertain times when many decisions could come from a place of fear.... When I talk about the blood glucose test I’m referring to the Gestational Diabetes test. The point of using this acronym is so you make empowered decisions over what happens to your body and baby. #useyourbrains #birthtools #birthpreparation #hypnobirthing #hypnobirthingpractitioner #birthmindsetcoach #informedbirth #empoweredbirth #birthwithoutfear #birthcenterbirth #homebirth #covidpregnancy
