23.01.2022 I’m a work in progress for sure with this parenting gig. Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for 12 hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime. Thank you @happyasamother for this easy to understand and practical guide for coping with mommy rage. I am putting it to use at the moment... #motherhood #adultingishard #keepingitreal #workinprogress #mindfulness #parenting #parentingtips
21.01.2022 I am a #doula who will NOT accept: the ever increasing maternal mortality rate across America the inaction that results in 60% of these maternal deaths from being prevented racism and discrimination in maternity care... shockingly disproportionate care and perinatal outcomes for marginalized groups of birthing people, including those who are Black, brown, Latinx, indigenous, LGTBQIA and disabled the over regulation of midwifery and the barriers that prevent birthing people from accessing culturally appropriate, midwifery based models of care, out of hospital, in their communities the erasure of doulas from the system through disproportionate and non evidence based hospital visitor policies and vendor requirements that prevent continuous support that contributes to a reduction in the maternal mortality rate the ongoing absence of a human rights framework within maternity care the narrative that hospital birth for healthy birthing people is safe and evidence based the narrative that all that matters is a healthy baby and the normalization of obstetric violence to fit this narrative the belief that birthing people are incapable of defining and owning their own parameters of risk I am a #doula who brings to attention #maternalhealthawarenessday and places doulas centrally in reducing racial disparities in maternal outcomes. I am a #doula who holds myself accountable for changing a system of maternity care that is harmful. Doulas, are you joining me? Repost Doulas For Human Rights @itsonly1mii
20.01.2022 And sometimes being a doula looks like this...left waiting alone in an empty room to be here to provide emotional support when they return from theater with their baby in their arms. I continue to hold space for them in my heart as I pray for the safety of mom and baby as her birth journey continues. I wait eagerly for them to share their birth story in all it’s glory. This empty room was filled with tons of emotions...love, fear, excitement, sadness, relief... unmeasurabl...e loving moments were shared throughout the duration of labour. Disappointment was felt because it did not end how they imagined. Processing and grieving the loss of the birth story they desired will take time. I’m here to help with that process. It’s ok and normal to feel more than one emotion at the same time. Only when we fully acknowledge and embrace all the parts of the journey will we be able to truly experience the joy that comes with the birth of a baby. So, if your birth story starts to take this path remember to give yourself space and grace to feel all the emotions... birth is a journey and I’m here to help you process all of it so you can share in all it’s glory!
09.01.2022 Do you find time to get comfortable and unwind? I highly recommend it! Why? Because it's important to take time to relax and reflect during your pregnancy, not only for your well-being but also for your baby. Don't let the busyness of life distract you from being present...slow down and breathYou won't regret that you did
07.01.2022 The Golden Hour have baby placed directly on your skin immediately after birth have baby’s first physical assessment done while still having skin to skin contact keep baby on you until first breastfeeding round is established... have everything that cannot be done during skin to skin contact (weight, measurements, etc) wait until at least 60mins have passed. You waited 9 months to meet this precious babeNow everything else can wait while you experience your golden hour
06.01.2022 Pregnant and hungry? To help optimize your health and energy try munching on a variety of fruits and veggiesbesides the benefits of all the vitamins they provide most veggies and fruits pack a healthy dose of fiber to keep your digestive system on track Don’t forget to wash it all down by drinking lots of fluids (trying to avoid the sugary and highly caffeinated ones)... your go to can always be good old H2O ... #tastetherainbow
