24.01.2022 This Sunday 30th Aug at 5pm is the last free/by donation class with 'Collective being'. Highly recommend, their classes are trauma informed and very inclusive. This is a restorative class, I think we could all do with a little rest and restore RN x

24.01.2022 Decolonising Birth is more than being educated and aware of the disparities within the system. Our systems were created with in-built racism, and combating that takes both individual knowledge and collective effort. Birthwork is reproductive justice work. None of us are free, as long as the many injustices continue to take place within the maternity system. As white birth workers living on stolen land, we are committed to further examining the patterns and privilege of our ow...n whiteness and how it is complicit in upholding systems of white supremacy. It is our duty to move beyond feelings of freeze and overwhelm, and commit to actively fighting the oppressive systems that are killing communities of Black, Indigenous folx and POC. We recognise that to be ethical and accountable humans in this community, an action-based framework must be embedded throughout our work and we will be spending the coming months centring anti-racism and anti-discrimation policies in Birthspace’s code of conduct. We advocate the need for decolonising and healing country through education, birthing and parenting. We acknowledge that for many folx, birth education and birth support is not only about having a meaningful birth, but rather the reality of surviving birth. We offer free childbirth education for Black, Indigenous birthing folx and birthing POC with the option to donate to Indigenous led organisations. We would love to connect with BIPOC led organisations based here in Naarm/Melbourne who are in need of funding or support. Please reach out or send this to anyone you think could benefit from this. 10% of Birthspace profits will be committed to Paying the Rent. We are committed to learning and listening. We are meeting with Wurundjeri elders in cultural consultation to guide us with Birthspace frameworks. We would love to work with a Black, Indigenous individual or POC to examine our organisation through the scope of racial equity. If you know of someone who would suit this role please send us a DM or email. (Continued in comments )

17.01.2022 There’s a real tendency in approaching birth to attempt to reduce or eradicate fear. Fear of pain, fear of the unknown, fear for our safety or fear of death. Fear is utterly appropriate when we’re facing the unknown, potential danger and the possibility of loss. It is nature’s protector- telling us to take good care. Pregnancy, birth and the postpartum deserve good care. Remember fear is an intelligent response. It’s not a failure or something that needs to be fixed. Find spa...ce for your fears, welcome them in, then take good care to nurture your needs image by @subliming.jpg . . . #birtheducation #birthed #birthmatters #labourandbirthclass #consciousparenting #consciousbirth #birthspace #doula #midwife #pregnancy #birthdoula #midwifery #shadowwork #birthwork See more
