25.01.2022 It is shocking just how commonly PPIs are prescribed when long term use can cause a multitude of issues (including impaired absorption of magnesium and vitamin B12 and increased cardiovascular risk in addition to those mentioned here). Like many other medications, they may just mask symptoms rather than treating the underlying cause- hence why nutrition and lifestyle interventions should be considered first.

25.01.2022 This is important. There are really good indications that adequate Vitamin D stores can drastically reduce the risk of complications from COVID-19, including the need for admission to ICU. Other lifestyle measures are likely just as beneficial including adequate protein intake (I'm willing to bet that the massive toll this virus has taken within an aged care setting is a pretty accurate reflection of widespread malnutrition within our elderly population, which I have witnessed firsthand), zinc and antioxidant intake from diet, stress management and adequate sleep. Consider this your daily reminder to get outdoors and get some sunshine, eat well and prioritise self-care.

24.01.2022 Snacking done well! One easy snack I tend to recommend to clients is veggie sticks (like carrot, cucumber, celery or capsicum; here with some heirloom cherry tomatoes) and hommus. It's hard not to find healthy eating appealing when it's this fresh and colourful.

23.01.2022 **Those around Frankston area!!** #Collecting TOMORROW! (Saturday) This is super short notice but my beautiful friend Louise is organising to take donated items for those affected by some of these awful bushfires to a collection point in East Gippsland. I know of quite a number people who are in the midst of this tragedy as I lived in Bairnsdale for a number of years- I'm planning to do a shop tomorrow and give what I can. Please comment or message me if you can help out and I'll pass on her details. xx @ Frankston, Victoria

23.01.2022 I made one of those burnt Basque cheesecakes everyone's been raving about and it was EVERYTHING I HOPED. Also I might have a go at sharing some videos soon. So that's fun.

23.01.2022 Well the recipe was a bit of a trainwreck, but I managed to create something edible anyway. Beginning to wonder if @pepperleaf have begun deliberately leaving out multiple steps to keep those of us bored in Melbourne lockdown on our toes. I can say though that most of the meals have been delicious, with a good variety of fresh produce and it certainly has been a win in not needing to go grocery shopping. I've just moved house, it's the first day of spring and hopefully we'll all soon be able to start emerging from this long hibernation. Fingers crossed and all of the prayers spoken.

22.01.2022 Another good reminder to support locally grown! Particularly in the aftermath of these awful fires, let's get around and support our farmers in whatever practical ways we can. I think this says it rather well. Our ongoing choices have a bigger impact than any one-off donation, and where we put our money matters.

19.01.2022 Delicious chicken wrap at Stacks Karingal- I'm not often one to spend a great deal of money on meals out (particularly lunches) but I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to continue to support local businesses at the moment. Many are being hit really hard because people are making decisions out of fear rather than living according to their values. And community and connection are truly more important than ever. Stay connected. Stay compassionate. Support those around you. xx

18.01.2022 If anyone else is going stir crazy in iso and just needs to get out of the house... A number of discount shops are still open (thanks, Cheap as Chips!) and often have a range of art and craft supplies, games, storage solutions, gifty things, basic appliances and bits and pieces for around the home and garden. I have just moved house and was stoked to get some of the little essentials as even Kmart etc is closed. After a conversation with a client yesterday about creating a home rather than a "survival space" to help ground the body physically after trauma, it really hit "home" (haha oops) how important our living environment is and having some sense of control over our surroundings. Also featured: my takeaway muffin from a local cafe and new sunglasses from the pharmacy.

16.01.2022 Deliberating over beautiful breakfasts. This is one of the things I'm finding a lot of joy in at the moment, as I intentionally slow down and make room to breathe. Physical, emotional and spiritual burnout was one of the biggest contributors to my health taking a nosedive a couple of years ago, and very effectively taught me a lesson about the value of rest and recreation. You may have heard the saying a million times but it cannot ring more true: "You cannot pour from an empty cup." Focus on keeping your tank full, and the rest will flow.

12.01.2022 I am absolutely over the moon about this gorgeous produce order from @heritagefarmau including farm fresh organic eggs, fruit and veg, amazing sourdough from a local microbakery and organic milk from South Gippsland. These guys are based in Moorooduc and have just started doing local delivery on their subscription boxes so I am all the way in. One upside of all this pandemic pandemonium is that many businesses have shown incredible creativity and resilience in "pivoting" to adapt to change- there are so many new opportunities to support local business right now and I'd encourage you to check out what's near you!

09.01.2022 Brunching on bircher with spelt, pear, sticky quince & macadamia milk; and the delightful company of @kathryn_saul. A very good way to start the day. Then off to visit another friend and her beautiful new bubba.

08.01.2022 If you like cheese (and who doesn't, really?) please take this opportunity to support a local business doing it tough. xx

07.01.2022 My housemate roasted a whole cauliflower with a "spiced almond butter" a little while ago and I was inspired. I also had a whole cauliflower to be used, but no almond butter. I substituted peanut, and voila, satay cauliflower was born. Served here with thai basil and vietnamese mint which added a little extra kick (plus a sprig of coriander and lemon).

04.01.2022 Brunch catch up the other day with the lovely Louise. I decided to shake up my recent trend of savoury breakfasts with some decadent hotcakes, while Lou admitted she wouldn't be a true Melbournian without returning to an iconic favourite.

01.01.2022 Last weekend I had a great time learning how to make sourdough with my parents and brother (sadly my sister was working at the time, though she certainly helped in testing the finished product). We made several kinds of rye, oat, white and fruit loaves and even homemade English muffins- all in the comfort of my parents' home. I'd say we still have a great deal of practising to do but were amazed at just how much you can do with one simple starter! @ Mornington, Victoria
