17.01.2022 No one food can make you gain weight - It’s all about the portion, preparation, and looking at the bigger picture! Being in a calorie deficit will assist you to achieve weight loss, not cutting out a particular macronutrient group. The same goes for restrictive fad diets that claim to assist weight loss, by cutting out certain food group (i.e. carbs). They achieve this result due to the same main theme being in a calorie deficit as most often than not, they have completely ...eliminated a food group. . . Carbs, in the form of whole grains or whole starch sources, are packed with many beneficial nutrients, including B vitamins, folate, and fibre. The fibre is not only important for digestive health, such as acting as a prebiotic ‘fuel’ for our gut bugs and assisting our bowels, but it can help us to feel more satisfied after eating a meal, making us feel full. This can inherently assist with weight management as you are less likely to over-eat and/or excessively snack in between meals. . . Some may argue that by cutting carbohydrates, some of the highly refined/processed such as cakes, biscuits, etc, are eliminated from the diet which aids with weight loss. This is true, however these foods are generally loaded with saturated fat, and therefore energy (calories/kilojuoles) as well, which can be the main reason behind the weight loss being in a calorie deficit, not cutting out carbohydrates. However, as suggested previously all food should be able to fit as part of a balanced and healthy diet and lifestyle. . Therefore, eating some bread is completely fine and will not cause you to gain weight. It’s all about looking at the big picture. Everything in balance and moderation! See more
